I've just read on the net about the 2 year old who was sexually assulte and murdered. why does this have to happen? I'm very upset as i'm sure you all will be once you hear/read about this. Have a look at \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/6356009.stm}

thats better...

oliveoil · 14/02/2007 14:28

kill em all
stab im in the eyeball

Caligula · 14/02/2007 14:29

Can't we just have a section called "hang 'em and flog 'em" for threads like these?

Tamum · 14/02/2007 14:31

I felt like I'd stumbled into the pages of The Sun until I got to oliveoil's posts (and others afterwards). Of course it's unspeakably vile, but ripping people to shreds? That's the answer?

us · 14/02/2007 14:49

the world we live in,is fragile more so than other. i think the problem we have to day is that mothers are left feeling that we have no one to turn to, after things like this, it leaves us with trust issues who can you leave your kids with, clearly not family, clearly not schools, and clearly not social services. more people today day donate money to animal charities than childrens.surely this tells us that we are not hearing what we are saying to are selves. the political politeness we how have of not "poking are noses in" is leading the way to things like this, The scum of the earth are not stupid as we would like to think, they use any excuss at any time and we allow them to do it. the drugs they are taking, the circles they move in, the society they live in, the way their mind works, bullxxxx at the end of the day its just one minute in a moment of miuntes and they choose a movement no one else. this man choose the wrong movement, costing many lives not only smilers. And some crazy person who thinks otherwise will i'm sure blame the mum. very very sad.

NappyChange · 14/02/2007 15:00

God forbid but if someone harmed my LO in the same way that the little girl was harmed I don't think I would be satisfied knowing that he was still allowed to breathe, eat, see, hear whilst my darling couldn't. I am not a "let 'em swing" sort of person, I don't believe in a "life for a life" but in some cases, it really comes down to the fact that it is not possible for these people to be rehabilitated and live amongst us. This terrible news has rocked us all.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 14/02/2007 15:04

Well posted, us. You say it so much better than I could. I have said that I am not a vengeful person, but for some reason, this case hit me hard and I vented my angry feelings which were more caused by the shock I felt when presented with the details of this case. I am not a 'string em up' person, but have been made to feel I am by some posters on this thread. Yes, it made me angry, but in a week when a couple were sentenced for abusing their SN 3year old daughter and then this happens, it tipped me over the edge and I know it's not rational or productive but I felt I needed to vent my frustration when so many awful things keep happening. Misguided, maybe, but my overwhelming emotion is that of sadness and sympathy for such a tragic, tragic thing.

quietmouse · 14/02/2007 15:05

I, also, have always been against the dealth penalty but this case has just devastated me tbh. I can not see how anyone capable of such a thing is a candidate for rehabilitation.

mumto3girls · 14/02/2007 15:11

what would your suggestion be then Cod...for crimes like these?

edam · 14/02/2007 15:20

Agree with Cod that violent offenders aren't acting rationally wrt possible sentences as they commit their crimes.

I'm no hanger or flogger. But I am aware of one case where someone who murdered a child, horribly (not a relative, not a sudden out of character push that caused them to knock the child's head on the kerb - deliberate cruelty) was allowed out after less than ten years with what you would hope was a very thorough risk assessment given the seriousness of the crime and the murderer's notoriety. And has gone on to kill again.

I know parole boards aren't capable of predicting the future with complete certainty. But it does make me question whether life should actually mean life in the most extreme cases.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/02/2007 15:23

I have got an article somewhere talking about the 'special deterrence' of capital punishment: i.e., if you kill an offender, the offender can't kill anyone else.

It does point out that people who are run over by cars also do not go on to kill anyone. I think it concludes that murderers should be set free and given cars.

weepootleflump · 14/02/2007 15:24

kittylettesShreddies, (I assume you are kittylette) have I missed something here? You started out in the thread saying how you'd like to slit the bastards throat and he has no human rights etc but somehow that has changed to you being with hunker and socci who have a completely different opinion!!!!! I'm confused .

However, if you're not the same person I do apologise.

hunkermunker · 14/02/2007 15:24

I am all for life meaning life and I also believe that there are some people who cannot be rehabilitated.

But I cannot sanction their death.

I can suggest they're left alone with a small cyanide pill and a suggestion in note-form though, perhaps?

oliveoil · 14/02/2007 15:25

stab em
slash em
burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn em

hunkermunker · 14/02/2007 15:25

WPF, KS and K are not the same person.

bundle · 14/02/2007 15:27

agree with you up to a point hunker, but the cyanide does let them off the hook a bit

weepootleflump · 14/02/2007 15:27

Thanks hunker. Sorry kittylette

oliveoil · 14/02/2007 15:28

wot abart cyanide with barbed wire wraped around it so it would slash on the way down?

Bramshott · 14/02/2007 15:29

I will almost certainly regret getting into this, but here goes:

This is clearly an awful, awful, crime, although personally, I don't know all the facts and I don't think anyone has been charged yet. But assuming they are similar to what's been reported, the 21-year old who did this is also someone's son. How you would you feel if it were your son? Horrified probably, sickened certainly, but would you really want him dead, with no hope or chance or remose / rehabilitation? Myself I think I probably wouldn't, but I don't know.

Radley · 14/02/2007 15:32

This has happened not too far from me, and knowing bits about the area, I think it's a possibility it is drink, drugs or a combination of both related.

But in no way, does it justify what this being has done to that beautiful little girl.

Radley · 14/02/2007 15:34

Bramshott, I understand what you are saying, but if it were my son, he would be completely and utterly cut out of my family for good, to the point I would move away etc and change name. I wouldn't want him near me or my family.

bundle · 14/02/2007 15:34

that's an improvement oo

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/02/2007 15:34

OO you are making me larf inappropriately...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/02/2007 15:35
