Maybe we should be very glad that Obama is going after all?

.. and is being replaced with someone with a very different outlook.

This is what Obama said yesterday:

" And then, in Germany, I’ll visit with Chancellor Merkel, who’s probably been my closest international partner these past eight years. I’ll also signal our solidarity with our closest allies, and express our support for a strong, integrated, and united Europe. It’s essential to our national security and it's essential to global stability. And that’s why the Transatlantic Alliance and the NATO Alliance have endured for decades under Democratic and Republican administrations. "

I don't know. How could anyone know who hasn't spoken to him or at least heard from someone who has spoken to him about it?

So, why are you worried about what he'll say?

Maybe wait and see?

squishysquirmy · 22/11/2016 12:26

TBF, as this thread has demonstrated, none of us know what Trump will actually do or even try to do

No, but we can make informed guesses from the things he has said and done in the past. And from his tweets and appointments.
And we can be concerned.

squishysquirmy · 22/11/2016 12:28

And, to bring it back to your original post, you seem very keen to extrapolate wildly on Obama's intentions from a pretty innocuous statement.

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 12:56

I've decided it will be unclassy for an ex- president to comment on how the current one is doing the job, as already stated.

About your self, you wrote:
No, I don't know exactly what he's going to say. and about whether Obama should speak out, you also wrote ex-president speaking out against racism and ineptitude
So, how did you know Obama will be speaking out against racism and ineptitude?

OP posts:
Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 12:59

squishysquirmy but to counter that, as already said in the thread:
Trump has no record to look back at
Trump is known to say contradictory things
and (I can't remember if this is mentioned or not)
Trump has already started to backpedal on some of the things he said many times in speeches before the vote.

If you can see the news coming out of the US, and you're main takeaway point is that Obama is being undiplomatic then I don't have anything constructive left to say to you, Jupiter.
Fuck this for a game of chess, its quite a pleasant day outside.

Lweji · 22/11/2016 13:31

Regardless of what he does? Really?

Would he be expected to be quiet if Trump decided to put Muslims in defined areas and establish constant surveillance, for example?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 22/11/2016 13:47

So, how did you know Obama will be speaking out against racism and ineptitude?

Jesus Christ - I already said I didn't know exactly what he would say. Do you understand that?

I also said I would most likely agree with whatever Obama says against Trump. That is because I find Trump dangerous.

You said it was "unclassy" for Obama to speak out against Trump whatever he says. That is/was your position.

Mine is that it is perfectly fine to do so. Do you get that?

You also suggested it is undemocratic for people to speak out against elected govts or referendum results. Do you still stand by that crap as well?

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 13:50

squishysquirmy - not my main take away. Only the single point on which i started this thread in the middle of the night a few days ago.
Would you say that this thread reflects how you would summarise everything that has happened this year sorted by importance? No, i suspect you would not. So, why expect that from me?!

Lwelj - I am just judging that one action (or two actions now). Not Obama's whole record, and everything he has ever done. TBH I haven't followed US politics with any interest at all until a few months ago, and even then I was just wondering when Trump would fall, or what would happen to HC's bid. The "basket of deplorables" comment caught me though as it reminded me of Emily Thornberry's white van man photo.

OP posts:
Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 13:51

First you said you knew. Then when challenged, you said you didn't know.

OP posts:
birdybirdywoofwoof · 22/11/2016 14:02

I don't know what Obama will say - but I stand by his right to say it.

Is that clear enough for you?

Lweji · 22/11/2016 14:04

How does what I wrote have to do with Obama's entire record?

I'll ask again. Is Obama supposed to keep quiet regardless of what Trump does? Even if he does something truly deplorable?
Would Obama be expected to stand back to racism? Or blatant racism?

Lweji · 22/11/2016 14:04

Sorry, blatant sexism.

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 14:05

birdy - i understand you very well.

On the other hand, you don't seem to understand me. You also suggested it is undemocratic for people to speak out against elected govts or referendum results. Do you still stand by that crap as well?
I didn't say that, I said it was undemocratic to only accept an election result if you got the result you wanted.

TBH I think you have been consistent in your prejudiced comments and misreading things, but that doesn't make it ok.

If you don't know that much about US politics or Obama then why are you arguing the odds with people who obviously do know a bit about it?

Lweji · 22/11/2016 14:08

I said it was undemocratic to only accept an election result if you got the result you wanted.

Please explain who you think didn't accept the result.
And how you think that criticising the elected president is not accepting the result.

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 14:08

Lweji sorry, i was conflating two posters, you and someone else. I'm goign to srop out now, for a bit because I dont' have time to read carefully and remember who said what. it does rather feel like there is one of me, and several of you at some points. Some posters make good, valid comments and others... well, not really.

OP posts:
Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 14:10

NotDavidTennant - I give you birdy and vanilla. If they know much, then they are hiding it well.

I have to agree with you on that, but not how you'd like to. :)

birdybirdywoofwoof · 22/11/2016 14:24

Stay "classy", Jupiter.Grin

squishysquirmy · 22/11/2016 14:57

Sorry if you feel outnumbered.
It's democraceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 15:21

Not outnumbered as in threatened, or outvoted. Just outnumbered in that a lot of the posts seem to be directed at me, rather than any other poster. If this was aibu, or i was asking for advice, then I could see why that would be, but it doesn't work so well in a discussion.

I don't feel threatened though, or as if you are all the rest of the world and I'm all alone. Its just difficult to devote the time to remembering who said what and giving proper replies., Yet, when I don't people seem to get quite irate if I misread their post or the mix them up with another poster. TBH I i need to get a spreadsheet finished, so I can't give more attention and that's why i am backing out.

(So, its nothing to do with democracy or anything else)

lewlj - I am sorry that you think that about me.

OP posts:
Lweji · 22/11/2016 15:33

Erm...
You asked a question and people replied. It seems none (or not many) agreed with you.
It happens.

Jupiter2Mars · 22/11/2016 17:39

Do you mean my OP? That was 324 posts ago.
I'm not complaining. I'm just saying I don't have time to do this properly.
