You see, that's the thing about racism - and other sorts of persecution that focus on something which is integral to someone's sense of identity - it is intensly personal.
I was beside myself with anger with C4 last night. Obvioulsy they are aware of the racism in the way Jade and Danielle express thier dislike for Shilpa - they called them in specificaly to address tehb 'fucking go home' comment and the fact that Jade had referred to Shilpa as 'Fuckerwallah' 'dooberwooje' (or something - I can't remember what it was) and 'Poppadum'. They didn't show Jade actually saying 'Fuckerwallah' but quoted it back to her in the diary room. And both Jade and Danielle are aware of the racist connotations. If someone said to me "you called Aloha 'Aloha Smith / Carpet / minniewinnie' " I wouldn't immediately say "I'm not being racist" because there wouldn't be any racist comment in the silly non-accurate names I had called her. Jade knew she had used a racist way to insult Shilpa.
And then, C4 showed Shilpa saying there was no racism going on - without pointing out that Shipa has heard very few of the racist comments that have bee made behind her back.
So basically C4 have used Shipa to try and exonerate their position that 'it's not racist', and every teenager in the country who is not as on the button as Aloha's lovey step-daughter could potentially assume that to call someone 'Fuckerwallah' is not racist.
I feel sorry for Jade as an individual, I wish her no ill will and in fact wish she were better placed to get genuine help to make her a happier person. The problem is that inflated to position as 'sleb' she functions as more than an individual, and she has to go. I really really hope C4 / Endemol look after her. The shock of coming out to her life in ruins will be terrible - and it would be horrible to let her build up another empire based on 'exclusive' inerviews in the gutter press about her rows with Shilpa. Shilpa will be fine. Jade and Danielle may find everything gone.
LOL, though, at Danielle giving such a blatant demonstration of her two-facedness to the nation in the version of events she told Jade. Her family must have had their heads in their hands.
