Do the Junior Doctors seriously think that they are still
respected for always putting the interest of their individual patient first?

I fully support the junior doctor's strike.

I will be at my local hospital tomorrow with cakes, chocolates and packs of biscuits to give out.

prettybird · 25/04/2016 18:32

I fully support the junior doctors' strike. I can remember what it was like for my junior doctor (now GP) friends before the working hours directive.

We already have a 7 day service for the disciplines that matter.

chickindude · 25/04/2016 18:44

I do support the doctors to a point, however my DD is a 3rd year nursing student and is expected to do an extra 12 hour shift unpaid as her hospital needs all hands on deck. It was her day off, and she is tired & honestly feels angry that she has to plug staffing holes.

Creampastry · 25/04/2016 18:57

I support the doctors strike, they have clear unselfish reasons. I would never support the tube workers strikes - they are pathetic entitled greedy idiots.

MissTriggs · 25/04/2016 19:00

Is there any way that training more drs is not the answer?

This would:
increase number of drs
Decrease their bargaining power on pay ( the BMA is just creepy)
Decrease training costs per dr

it does mean a pay cut for most of them in real terms but the conditions would be better so they would be much happier

What am I missing? A flood of law schools opened from about2000. Shit for existing lawyer but wonderful for clients

Why not do something more useful - if as another poster says nurses are being used to help provide cover for doctors -
There might be seriously ill patients with their notes marked 'no food or water'....(often without their knowledge or consent). But those junior doctors wont think of that as they fill their greedy cakeholes with your simpering offerings.

I don't think that helps Lanchester

VertigoNun · 25/04/2016 19:09

Shockl

Lanchester · 25/04/2016 19:10

The NHS is supposed to be run for the benefit of the whole country, not primarily for the benefit of NHS workers, with the threat of neglect of patients used to extract money from the elected government.

Lanchester · 25/04/2016 19:14

Yes sorry Dilly. I overstated the case somewhat there. No doubt the doctors will enjoy your support.

However I think your support is misplaced. The junior doctors are supposed to treat their patients as individuals and in each case put the interest of that individual before other concerns.

Chickindude, you need to check what is being expected of your DD. last I heard student nurses were supernumerary, and should NOT be used to plug staffing gaps...she should contact the NMC and RCN for advice 😧

VertigoNun · 25/04/2016 19:15

There is no benefit for me if they are too tired to keep updated with new medical advances. They are no good to anyone if they make more misdiagnosis due to not enough time, it hurts individual patients and their family, society, the NHS and the doctor who ducks up and later has to deal with a complaint.

Themoleandcrew · 25/04/2016 19:25

Wondered how long it would take for someone to have a dig at tube workers.
But anyway I fully support the junior doctors and no nobody in RL who doesn't.

MissTriggs · 25/04/2016 19:27

Here's my contact:
1 no pay rise
2 no changes to banding etc.
3 train more drs

chickindude · 25/04/2016 19:30

Wiccamum.
As a student when you are asked to go in you go in. She knows the hospital shouldn't be asking, but she needs a good reference & it is expected. Unfortunately the Uni won't step in to stop it. The whole cohort are having to work tomorrow, it is 'not good practice ' to make a fuss.

Lanchester · 25/04/2016 19:38

When a poster on a thread says they dont know anyone who doesn't support the BMA.... It strains their credibility... Perhaps they only ever speak to other NHS staff? Or perhaps they are known for their strong opinions and maybe their acquaintances want to stay on the right side of them / not offend them?

MANY people in tho country are concerned that the NHS is out of control. It is supposed to be run primarily for patients NOT primarily staff conditions.

I fully support them. The changes to working conditions are insidious and bad for the service.
That said, my outpatient appointment is on tomorrow and I'm rather excited as I may finally meet the Consultant, not a "member of the team" :)

PausingFlatly · 25/04/2016 19:53

I support the junior doctors' strike.

One day of action, with rotas covered in a planned way by senior staff, will cause nothing like the harm of daily understaffing because hospitals chronically can't fill jobs - as is already starting to happen.

MissTriggs · 25/04/2016 19:57

I do get your point Lanchester but If you agree the NHS is underfunded I think you have to come up with alternative proposals?

MyLlamasGoneBananas · 25/04/2016 19:57

I'm a cancer patient with an op due in the next couple of weeks. I am assuming my wait time will now be increased slightly to make way for the poor sods who were due to be operated on tomorrow and Wednesday.

I still support the junior Dr's. Even if I'm dead in 2 years I want my children to benefit from a safe NHS.

I hate this government for how they have screwed over the NHS and already privatised parts of it.

This is just the start. Every nurse and Dr's of every level are in Jeremy Cunts firing line.

PausingFlatly · 25/04/2016 19:58

Two days of action, that should say.

mudandmayhem01 · 25/04/2016 20:00

My son has an ongoing health issue and a long awaited appointment has been cancelled. I still support the junior doctors strike. I am sad there has been a delay in getting a diagnosis for my boy but the bigger aim of saving the NHS is far more important.

Lanchester · 25/04/2016 20:07

A

Today 17:50 ClaraLane
"We've cancelled around 1000 outpatient appointments". Well that figure sounds high for one Trust for one day. If there are about 900 Trusts in England then that will be about 900,000 appointments cancelled nationwide per day. Lets say at least half a million cancelled.
How many people will die long term as a result of missed opportunity for early diagnosis?

Solutions please Lanchester!!

Chchchchangeabout · 25/04/2016 20:12

I don't support strike on emergency cover, I think it's shocking. Most people I know are saying the same thing.
