And have a look at Abel-Cole - they deliver boxes but they're a bit expensive.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/01/2007 23:23

Has anyone told Gillian McPoo that organic food "isn't better for you"?

skibump · 11/01/2007 23:24

Recently sent to Coventry...not Herts then. Has anyone used Rivernene?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/01/2007 23:25

'ROFL Xenia, you just get funnier and funnier, it's truly beautiful'

Greensleeves, you are ace! You have my brian!

skibump · 11/01/2007 23:32

"you have my brian" maybe should be offering hime to Fio

fortyplus · 11/01/2007 23:33

Who the heck is Brian??

fortyplus · 11/01/2007 23:33

Grrr - beaten to the joke by a skier!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/01/2007 23:33

Well you obviously swing both ways so I wouldn't bother asking!

No.. we are shunning all organic food and anything vaguely healthy in order to be in favour of being fat-and-full-of-pesticides!

I will bear it in mind though. We were having Abel and Cole actually but they kept delivering alien entities (it's a cauli Mark, but not as we know it! ) that we got very excited by and researched on the net.. but then didn't eat. Then some other firm with smaller prices put a flyer through the door so we cancelled A&C and never for around to starting new one. Then it was Christmas and we were broke as hell.. and now it's New Year and we're fat as hell as previously stated...

Will do new health kick soon... (have you seen my housing thread yet? Will keep asking you this on inappliable threads until you answer, you swine! )

skibump · 11/01/2007 23:34

Don't know but Droile says he's ace (actually I might have got that wrong )

JoolsToo · 11/01/2007 23:36

oh are we talking butchers? can I retell my favourite joke?

okay

A woman walks into the butchers and says 'Have you got a sheeps head?' No, says the butcher - its just the way I part my hair!

boom-boom

fortyplus · 11/01/2007 23:36

I had a big booklet of special offers from McDonald through the door this evening - now that's what I call food!

Isn't this like the old breastfeeding thing - it's not that organic food is especially good for you, it's that food sprayed with all sorts of artificial sh*t is probably quite bad for you!

skibump · 11/01/2007 23:38

A woman walks into a butchers and says"do you keep dripping?" "Yes" he replies, "annoying isn't it" Terrible I know

fortyplus · 11/01/2007 23:46

Twinklemegan - talking of sh*t (a word officially allowed in the House of Commons since yesterday, incidentally) my friend with the farm (non organic but very animal friendly) says you can put human poo on the fields and still call produce organic. Bleeurgh!

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2007 23:47

Hmmm - I suppose that's what they did back in days of yore!

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2007 23:48

But then today that human poo (oh yuck!) has probably been treated with all sorts of chemicals. Interesting...

stumpydoglooksforwardtospring · 11/01/2007 23:53

i used to be a soil association licensee and ran my own box scheme. i can assure everyone that the soil association has very high standards. it is not just about a very restricted use of added chemical fertilzers, etc, but is about enriching the soil. it is wonderful to see the transformation of fields under conversion to organic; everything is so much more beautiful. it is a completely different way of doing things to industrial agriculture. think of the bigger picture too : the production of nitrate fertilizers for example causes massive pollution and uses huge amounts of energy, adding to the problems of climate change.local organic is best.

fortyplus · 11/01/2007 23:58

My friend's farm is lovely - she encourages wildlife, uses organic fertilisers and only 'spot kills' invasive weeds like docks so that the wild flowers can still grow. I've posted earlier on this thread re: her animal husbandry, etc.

So is she right about the poo?

stumpydoglooksforwardtospring · 12/01/2007 00:10

fortyplus, the soil association does not permit the use of human poo ! cannot be certain about other certifying groups such as organic farmers and growers 'though, but i wouldn't have thought so. i gave up farming about 7 years ago but am still involved in organic/env groups.only manure from animals which have been farmed organically can be used on sa farms. they really are very strict and do regular inspections and have to be provided with endless proof of everything. i wonder why your friend doesn't go completely organic?

fortyplus · 12/01/2007 00:25

She says it makes her cross how supermarkets etc have jumped on the bandwagon. They sell all their meat through their own farm shop.
I'll tell her it's a myth re: the human poo, though!

OrmIrian · 12/01/2007 08:22

Night soil is the euphemistic term for human sh*t spread on the fields. I think it's rather a lovely word....

Nother butcher's joke.

Womans walks into butchers shop on a very wet day to buy dripping. Walks out again and the butcher runs after here...'You've forgotten your umbrella and your dripping!'

Actually it wasn't about umbrella but i thought it was too yuck and school-boyish to share with mn.
