Very sad reading this, it seems that Mr Shah was murdered by a fellow Muslim after posting Happy Easter messages. I don't know any more about this, but how sad that someone who believed in tolerance and integration has been murdered for this.

Yes, very sad. My flat is about 30m away; I haven't lived there for about 10years. Shawlands has always been a diverse area. It's just an awful thing to have happened.

It is awful. Although I'm not entirely sure it was simply about the Easter message as there was a discussion online about Mr Shah being a different denomination of Muslim which some Muslims don't recognise as being Muslim.

Regardless of the motivation it is a tragedy for Mr Shah's family and for the community which has always been happily diverse.

RIP Mr Shah.

When the news first broke yesterday I said to my children, they're all Muslims - I have a horrible feeling another Muslim did this.

I lived in this area for many years and can't quite believe something like this has happened. There is a second person (believed to be Mr Shah's brother) in hospital with serious injuries.

I think most of us thought the same as you and that is possibly why Aamer Anwar suggested people not leap to conclusions.

Was it someone justifying behaviour by blaming another Muslim faction or someone from IS?

APlace very true, I think I jumped to the incorrect conclusion on this occasion because of the recent attacks/ongoing situation in Brussels and France, no excuse though.

He's an Amadiyyah Muslim. Amidiyyah Muslims are the guys who sell poppies.

Ahmadiyyah Muslims are pretty blooming amazing, they teach peace and tolerance, reaching out to all other faiths and include some aspects of other religions in their worship including viewing Jesus as a figure of great significance. Some interesting reading here:

We have a lot of Amadiyyah where I live and they do an awful lot of outreach to the wider community including charity work and becoming socially active within the wider community. They do an awful lot of good for Muslim and non-Muslim alike and have a genuine message of peace and tolerance for all.

Unfortunately they are viewed as heretics and blasphemers and horribly, horribly persecuted in much of the Islamic world, especially in Pakistan where that persecution is state sponsored and includes things like denial of passports and public services right up to violence and murder.

I assume that him being Amadiyyah is a large part of the reason. Not a massive surprise this sort of thing is happening sadly.

I think it could have happened to any of the lovely Muslims I've lived amongst for decades.

It's very concerning in the context of the wider discussion this week about the comments made by the Iman at the central mosque about blasphemy. I am very grateful Aamer Anwar is bringing it to a wider audience but worry he is putting himself at risk.

BillSykes thank you for that, I hadn't heard of this before. It just seems like people who would be violent anyway are using religion as an excuse for their actions, in the same way that others use football or race. That urge to hurt others has to be there already surely?

Am disgusted though - know of people who knew him and he sounded a lovely man. The type of person I am delighted to have in our city.

Cameron needs to step up and make a very public proclamation that this sort of intolerance has no place in the Uk.

He could then start to clear the hate-preachers out of the mosques and stop permitting Saudi to fund new mosques in which hate-preachers spread the hateful Wahabbism.

But he won't

From everything said and written about Mr Shah he seemed a lovely man and an integral part of the community, such an awful, awful crime.

My heart goes out to his family.

I hope if the crime is a religious hate crime then that is what it is classified as. Not assault but a hate crime.

And I hope the focal police charge the imam in the Glasgow mosque who praised the (executed) murderer in Pakistan whi murdered a politician who spoke out against their Draconian blasphemy laws. We don't need poison like that here.
