'anti-Sanders views to someone I dislike like Hitler, just as a useful point of contrast?'

No because Tony Blair and his ilk are part of our globalist ruling Establishment and Trump stands in opposition to them in the here and now.

If Trump wins, everything that Blair and his ilk believe and promoted will be finished because populist conservatism will become the Establishment.

var123 · 14/02/2016 14:23

You don't know my views about Blair or New labour or Cameron because I have not shared them. I doubt anyone would be interested in one person's opinion and I don't presume to speak for the silent minority.

GruntledOne · 14/02/2016 14:24

I am not right all of the time. i know the Establishment outwitted UKIP and placed stooges inside it in order to beat it

And this time next year you will be blaming Trump's defeat on the Establishment outwitting him and placing stooges inside his campaign organisation. It's so tediously predictable.

Mistigri · 14/02/2016 14:24

Most actual conservatives don't think Trump is really a conservative (he has fairly liberal positions on healthcare, social security, gay marriage etc, and is probably pro choice although he no longer admits it). He's actually quite interesting from that point of view, because he differs quite markedly from European nationalist/ isolationist parties like UKIP and the NF who are socially very conservative. If he gets the nomination it may help him appeal to the minority of left wingers who hate Hillary so much that they wouldn't ever vote for her.

I'm surprised that as a self-confessed small-c conservative Claig doesn't find Cruz more attractive.

var123 · 14/02/2016 14:26

Claig - I would say though that some of your language puts me in mind of David Icke. What's your thoughts about extra terrestrial lizards metamorphosing into humans and taking over all the Establishment roles?

claig · 14/02/2016 14:27

'And this time next year you will be blaming Trump's defeat on the Establishment outwitting him and placing stooges inside his campaign organisation.'

I won't because Trump is serious and wants to win so he will not be stupid enough or weak enough to allow stooges to ruin his run unlike Farage who hasn't got the courage of Trump.

The Republican Establishment may still outwit Trump but they won't do it by infiltrating his organisation.

claig · 14/02/2016 14:28

'What's your thoughts about extra terrestrial lizards metamorphosing into humans and taking over all the Establishment roles?'

When I look at Tony Blair, i sometimes wonder.

var123 · 14/02/2016 14:30

So you ARE David icke?

claig · 14/02/2016 14:32

'I'm surprised that as a self-confessed small-c conservative Claig doesn't find Cruz more attractive.'

No because I am a populist conservative. i don't like elites and Establishments holding ordinary people down and in my opinion Cruz is just a puppet of elites. I am part of the anti-establishment movement across America and all over Europe that believes that most of these politicians are bought and paid for.

Trump isn't and is common sense. Cruz is a doctrinaire conservative ideologist (but in fact I think he is even pretending to be that because if he was ever elected he would be shown to be a puppet).

I am a common sense populist conservative and agree with Corbyn and Sanders on many issues.

SenecaFalls · 14/02/2016 14:35

Trump does not have liberal views on same sex marriage. He has stated that he will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will overturn the same sex marriage ruling.

There are some Hillary-haters on the left. They will stay home on election day rather than vote for Trump.

GruntledOne · 14/02/2016 14:45

Guess who said this early in May 2015:

"I think Farage has the necessary courage"

"Watch the panic in BBC studios on Thursday night as the People's Army's victories are read out."

"Can you just imagine what it will be like on the BBC on election night?
Dimbleby:
What on earth is happening? Whole counties are in danger of going purple."

"you say Farage may not make it in South Thanet, but according to this report that I am reading over my crunchie breakfast and double espresso, it's going absolutely wild down there. The report syas there is Farage-mania unlike anything seen since the Beatlesmania of the early sixties."

"NIGEL Farage's Ukip are set to storm Essex"

"I listened to his Election Call on Radio 4 The World At One today. It was brilliant. I have never heard any politician as good as him in years and years."

"We'll find out on election night. I'll try and stay up to see Farage shake the system when he makes his victory speech."

claig · 14/02/2016 14:47

"I think we're missing one important point here. Donald Trump is appealing as much to Democrats as he is to Republicans," said Mike Rogers, a former Republican congressman from Michigan and CNN's national security commentator, on Jan. 12.

Rogers said people who don't see this are "missing the folks on the street who are drawn to his campaign. He's got this whole group of Democrats for Trump, it's an economic issue. … This is a Republican Party attracting Democrats, independents, Reagan Democrats to a message that says this town is broken. The institutions of government are broken. The economy is broken."

"No Joke: Trump Can Win Plenty of Latinos

A new poll of Latino GOPers puts Trump ahead. Way ahead. And yes, there’s an explanation, in the fault lines within the Latino community."

www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/02/12/no-joke-trump-can-win-plenty-of-latinos.html

"Poll: 20% of Dems would defect for Trump"

thehill.com/homenews/campaign/265330-some-dems-would-defect-for-trump-poll-shows

It is going to be a landslide for Trump.

The people who like Trump and against political correctness because we see that as a lie and we want the truth.

Trump said yesterday on Fox and Friends

"I am going to say that the Iraq War was a disaster and if that costs me votes, so be it, because I am going to tell the truth"

That is what Trump voters like and that is why they don't care if he attacks George W Bush because they think he lied and they agree with Trump about that.

claig · 14/02/2016 14:49

GruntledOne, I was exaggerating a little bit for comic effect, but I admit I got it wrong.

But I don't think I am wrong over Trump.

claig · 14/02/2016 15:00

'Guess who said this early in May 2015'

Those were the days. There was so much hope and optimism then and now we learn that the Tories did not declare all their election expenses in Thanet South where they defeated Farage.

var123 · 14/02/2016 15:45

I just saw a clip of a debate between the Republican candidates. It may have been the one last night(not sure).
Trump said "There will be a wall (between the US and Mexico) and Mexico will pay for it.
Does anyone know how he thinks that will happen? Have theMexicans indicated this or is he just planning to order another sovereign nation to do whatever he wants?

claig · 14/02/2016 15:59

'rump said "There will be a wall (between the US and Mexico) and Mexico will pay for it.'

I doubt that was last night's one because the Wall is standard Trump stuff that he has said from the beginning. Last night's debate was described by sundicated columnist Krauthammer as thermonuclear and aking to cagefighting. It was all out confrontation.

'Does anyone know how he thinks that will happen?'

Very easy. He will tell Mexico to do it. If they don't like it, he will hit them with tariffs for their goods coming over the border. Since there is a huge trade deficit between the US and Mexico in Mexico's favour, mexico will pay for it.

The former President of Mexico was quoted as saying "we are not going to pay for his stupid wall"

Fatal mistake because Trump then announced at a rally with tens of thousands of people attending "the wall just got ten feet higher" and the crowd went nuts chanting "Trump! trump! Trump!"

It's Trump 2016!

claig · 14/02/2016 16:06

Trump is not mucking about. He is not Establishment. If Trump wins it will be America First and the whole world will have to get used to it. Trump is going to slash the deficit and countries will have to do as they are told.

var123 · 14/02/2016 16:12

I think it was last night, actually. He went for Bush soon after that point. Surely you watched it yourself?

The person who described it like that is perhaps a bit fond of hyperbole. It all just sounded a bit silly with the crowd whooping and stuff.

Trump also said he'd put up trade tariffs with Mexico (same 13 minute clip). Something about how things- air con units- must either be manufactured in the US or paid for by tariffs with Mexico.

Clair - given what you just described, the complete absence of diplomacy, or even common sense, how long do you think it would take for America to find itself at war with some country or other?

var123 · 14/02/2016 16:15

Why would countries have to do as they are told? America's economic empire days are in serious decline. It doesn't have the might it once had, and even then it generally realised it had to persuade not demand.

claig · 14/02/2016 16:19

' Surely you watched it yourself?'

Absolutely I did, but the Wall stuff is old hat so that would not have stood out for me.

'It all just sounded a bit silly '

I don't think Mexico finds it silly. Rumours are they are working out how to pay for it.

'air con units'

Yes that was last night.

'given what you just described, the complete absence of diplomacy, or even common sense, how long do you think it would take for America to find itself at war with some country or other?'

Never. Are you kidding? Who is going to risk going to war with the United States? Don't forget that unlike the Establishment politicians, when the host said "you said you think you will get on well with Putin", Trump said "call me genius, I like him so far".

You have to understand why the world's political class is terrified of a Trump victory - because everything will change, America will be number one and everyone will know it and America's 19 trillion deficit will be reduced within years. Trump is not mucking about.

claig · 14/02/2016 16:23

'Why would countries have to do as they are told? America's economic empire days are in serious decline. '

They were under the "losers" and "stiffs" that Trump criticises, but not when Trump gets in. Countries are making a fortune off America with positive trade balances. If they don't do what Trump and his top business team of negotiators say then they will lose out economically.

Trump rightly says that America has the best business people in the world and yet trade negotiations are handled by incompetent political hacks. He says "not gonna happen anymore".

'It doesn't have the might it once had, and even then it generally realised it had to persuade not demand.'

It does have the might and Trump is going to use. He says that America is "getting ripped" by countries across the world due to the "losers" in office. "Not gonna happen anymore". The former President of Mexico said they weren't going to pay "for his stupi wall", well the wall just got ten feet higher.

Trump 2016!

var123 · 14/02/2016 16:24

Sigh... Number 1 at what? Everything, right?
So how is it going to be no. 1 industrial country?
No. 1 for human rights?
No. 1 for healthcare?
No. 1 for education?
No. 1 to all Muslims?
No. 1 for its army - though obviously it won't need one as everyone is going to be too scared to disagree.

Serious question - who'll be passing these laws through congress? Or is Trump thinking to just tell them what to do using his really big voice??!

var123 · 14/02/2016 16:26

The wall didn't get 10 feet higher, trump simply started to look 10x more narcissistic.

claig · 14/02/2016 16:37

'Sigh... Number 1 at what? Everything, right?'

Absolutely.

So how is it going to be no. 1 industrial country?

Have you not listened to any of Trump's speeches in his packed 20,000 people rallies that outnumber what Elton John gets? He is going to slash corporation tax to 15% and bring bback the 2 to 5 trillion dollars that American companies hold offshore in the Bahamas etc, then he is going to negotiate trade deals using the best business people out of New York - he says they are the best, some of them are "not very nice people, but hey, who cares, they will get the best deals" and countries will have to buy American produced goods so that the trade deficit gets slashed and Americans get well-paid jobs not the ones that so many have now. He says "I will be the biggest job creator in US history". "I will win the state of Michigan because I will bring back so many jobs, the people will love me".

He is not mucking about which is why the FT had an article saying

"the nativists must not win".

It will be America First, the ripoff globalisation will be finished.

"No. 1 for human rights?
No. 1 for healthcare?
No. 1 for education?"

Absolutely, everything is going to be the best. America is going to win so much, the people "will get sicl of winning and will say please can we lose again"

"No. 1 to all Muslims?"

It wil be good for Muslims in America who get jobs etc, but it won't be good for Isis and the Jihadis because he is going to hit them hard.

'No. 1 for its army - though obviously it won't need one as everyone is going to be too scared to disagree.'

Exactly he is going to build it up so strong that he will never have to use it because no one will mess with America.

'Serious question - who'll be passing these laws through congress? Or is Trump thinking to just tell them what to do using his really big voice?'

No Trump has said he disagrees with Obama's use of executive orders which bypass the Congress. Trump will use his legendary deal-making skills to get Congress's approval.

He is not mucking about. It's Trump 2016!

Watch his rallies on youtube where he spells it all out, that is what the world's political classes are doing in trepidation.

Want2bSupermum · 14/02/2016 16:40

I audit broker dealers who are normally left leaning. They are talking about Trump and saying they want someone who can neigotiate and he is the best one.

Basically the world economy is going to be bust this year and Wall Street want someone who is going to push the problem on someone else (ie another country). Hillary Clinton isn't the person to do it. Trump is. He has done it before. Spoken by someone quite high up on Wall Street. I was quite shocked.
