Cologne Sexual Assaults IX and David Davies Web Chat

LumelaMme · 07/02/2016 13:07

On New Year's Eve women in Cologne were amongst those who were sexually assaulted and robbed in mass attacks.
This is a link to the last thread which has links to all the others.

Some of us have begun a petition asking the government to uphold women's rights and freedoms:

THE PETITION _ Please sign and share
The petition

We also hope that tomorrow, Monday 8th February, David TC Davies MP will be on MN for a web chat between 1pm and 2pm - it should be a sticky on either Chat or In The News. David was one of the few MPs who has shown any interest in this whole issue and who has responded sympathetically to those of us concerned about women's rights in a changing world.

Le Monde: Cologne : « Les agresseurs étaient arrivés au cours de l’année 2015 »
www.lemonde.fr/europe/article/2016/02/17/cologne-les-agresseurs-etaient-arrives-au-cours-de-l-annee-2015_4867024_3214.html

"Ulrich Bremer, le procureur général de la ville, est formel : « L’écrasante majorité » des agresseurs qui ont été arrêtés sont arrivés en Allemagne « au cours de l’année 2015 », a-t-il indiqué au Monde, mercredi 17 février"

Interesting articles, Maris.

Does this make it worse?

le président de la police de Cologne a assuré qu’aucun signe ne permettait de penser qu’une forme de criminalité organisée ait été à l’œuvre ce soir-là. Les hommes présents sur la place se seraient rassemblés par le biais des réseaux sociaux

Hermione, I will vote to LEAVE. It is important to reiterate that we have no control of our borders until we leave. I saw Anna Soubry make a feeble attempt on yesterday's TV to say the reverse.

You will note that all the conglomerates and other big business are encouraging us to vote to Stay, but they would say that wouldnt they?

LumelaMme · 23/02/2016 09:21

I used to be able to read Le Monde. Now I have trot off to Google translate. Sad

TBH I think men arranging the Cologne attacks through social networks is more insidious than organised gangs: it indicates widespread attitudes which just see women as meat.

Exactly. Ingrained sexist culture versus criminal one-off.

Worrying.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 09:38

"I think men arranging the Cologne attacks through social networks is more insidious than organised gangs"

Not only insidious, Lumela, but so confident that the authorities of their new country will do fuck all to them because that would be admitting that Merkel et al had made a mistake, ja?

SurferJet · 23/02/2016 09:45

I'll be voting to leave the EU.
I want to live in a country that only lets in genuine asylum seekers & people who can make a positive contribution to our country & live by our democratic values. I'm sure that's the vast majority of people who want to make their life here, & they're more than welcome.
However, criminals, illegals, wasters, & anyone who hates our way of life & values can bugger off. & that should be our decision to make not someone in Brussels who I never voted for.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 10:08

SurferJet Unfortunately, I have been told very gleefully by MENA people who have been here for 10 yrs or more that "This is our country, anyone can see that you have lost it."

Tourists and temp visitors report how taken aback they are when they see London. 60/40 against the indigenous apparently.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 10:21

I thoroughly resent this sense of entitlement displayed by so many so-called refugees. Genuine refugees do not behave like that, i.e. I want, I want. It is also crap manners to demonstrate within your new host country against that country. These demos take the form of stating that Britain will be Islamic soon, Death to Infidels, Democracy Out!, banners encouraging the killing of our soldiers and police and so on.

And not one of these motherf***s is ever arrested, because they police are told to leave it. I assume that's because they are worried about a huge riot starting and spreading across the entirety of the country.

But anyone protesting against such aggressive demos is told to either push off or is arrested.

sportinguista · 23/02/2016 10:42

I will probably go to DH's homecountry if this one becomes Islamic as I have no wish to live obeying a religion I have no connection with and don't believe in. I have nothing against genuine refugees. Death to infidels is pretty insulting, no one is an infidel if no one is illegal. Calling names is just plain ignorant and vile.

The whole infidel thing devalues the lives of other human beings. I appreciate its a minority but the whole word has no place in society today. We all have a right to exist and be valued as human beings, it shouldnt depend on religion.

The reason there was such a fuss about the expulsion of Ugandan Asians was because about a third were citizens of the UK, but the good people of the UK didn't want them, despite the fact that they were treated appallingly by Amin. They were not protected by international law. The remainder, who had taken out Ugandan citizenship, were protected, but they were still expelled. Foreign nationals living in the UK don't have protection unless they are refugees or sending them back to their country of origin would be dangerous.

daphnedill · 23/02/2016 11:09

The UK won't become an Islamic state during my lifetime. And people claim that those who want to remain in the EU are scaremongerers!! Jeez!

MariscallRoad · 23/02/2016 11:10

Lumela Free sources for French language learning can be found in this TV enseigner.tv5monde.com/collection/7-jours-sur-la-planete

daphnedill · 23/02/2016 11:12

SurferJet,
How does being in the EU affect the immigration of non-EU refugees? The UK is not in the Schengen Area and DOES have control about who it lets in from outside the EU.

SurferJet · 23/02/2016 11:34

If this is what we get with control I'd hate to see Shane MacGowan on the door.

sportinguista · 23/02/2016 11:52

No it won't in our lifetime perhaps, our children or grand children possibly.

I want to remain in the EU because my DH is from another EU country and it's part of my sons heritage. Plus we go there quite a bit and it is a damn site easier without visas etc.

We are currently experiencing an influx of people from outside the EU because of the refugee crisis which has not just seen Syrians apply but a diverse number of other nationalities coming into Europe, once they have papers in another European state they can like any other Euro citizen go wherever they like, they will essentially be part of the EU. Some of them will come here, some of them wont. But they will have come originally from outside EU but we wont have control over whether we let them travel to the UK as they have been accepted in another European state ie. the decision will have been made in another country. We are relying on our European partners checks being very stringent and effective to pick up say criminal behaviour etc.

If we have direct application from outside the EU from say, Malaysia or China as an example, that person's application then has to go through only our checks to determine whether we will issue a visa and what type of visa that will be. Then if accepted once in the UK they will only deal with our authorities to determine whether they can either extend their visa, get right to remain or become a british citizen according to their choice/needs. At no point does another EU state become involved. However they are relying on us to make the right checks/choices for their security should that person then decide to relocate to any other part of the EU, which if the become British they will be able to do.

MariscallRoad · 23/02/2016 12:17

The video I mentioned in my previous post is titled "L'Arctique, la fin d'un sanctuaire L’Arctique, le nouvel eldorado" found in enseigner.tv5monde.com/ It has a transcription as well with the movie. The video text is based on a report by the French Senat.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 13:40

daphnedill "about a third were citizens of the UK, but the good people of the UK didn't want them"

The Asians in Uganda were very successful traders and merchants. They declined to take Ugandan citizenship and that riled Mr Amin. My next door neighbour is Ugandan Asian, though born in India. The point of that matter is that some went to India after expulsion, and for the others UK passports were given by the govt of the day. Amin told them to get out within 3 months and Britain arranged entry in double-quick time.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 13:43

daphnedill "The UK won't become an Islamic state during my lifetime. And people claim that those who want to remain in the EU are scaremongerers!! Jeez!"

Do you honestly think that we are talking about the UK becoming Islamic in our time. Do you really? No we are not, but it will if population of muslim immigrants continues to grow. Some statisticians say we have alread passed the point of no return, because indigenous Brit's birth rate is so low. My children will be living in an Islamic country, and the grandchildren for definite.

BrittEkland · 23/02/2016 13:54

"The UK is not in the Schengen Area and DOES have control about who it lets in from outside the EU."

Yes indeed, but no control of those from the EU, which is far too many imo. At least 1 million Poles alone, a fair proportion who have had children while here.

SpringingIntoAction · 23/02/2016 17:01

Soon to be joined by 75 million Turks when Turkey joins the EU under the fast-track agreement it reached with Angela Merkel. Turks will have visa-free travel within the Schengen area from Oct 2016.

Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia are currently in negotiations with the EU to accede. This will eventually permit the populations of those countries the right to reside in any EU country.

We have an option to opt out of permitting them immediate rights to settle in the UK, but any limitations can only be temporary and eventually they will have the right to live in the UK.

If I were a poor person in any of those countries I would certainly be looking to move to a more affluent EU country - as many are already trying to do illegally.

Woodhill · 23/02/2016 17:14

The British were also kicked out by Amin. A relative worked for the foreign office and she had to suddenly leavd. Perhaps Amin didn't like the way the Asians treated his own people mind you he was probably slightly unhiged .

I think our grandchildren will be more constrained in their freedom of religion than we are and I do think Islam is a threat

Cellardoor1 · 23/02/2016 17:35

How can a country with a human rights record like turkey be allowed into the EU? I was talking to a turkish guy who lives here in the U.S. recently and he is very worried about the direction his country is going. He is a non practising Muslim and proud to be from a secular country but the way he sees it that will be over soon.
