Cologne Sexual Assaults IX and David Davies Web Chat

On New Year's Eve women in Cologne were amongst those who were sexually assaulted and robbed in mass attacks.
This is a link to the last thread which has links to all the others.

Some of us have begun a petition asking the government to uphold women's rights and freedoms:

THE PETITION _ Please sign and share
The petition

We also hope that tomorrow, Monday 8th February, David TC Davies MP will be on MN for a web chat between 1pm and 2pm - it should be a sticky on either Chat or In The News. David was one of the few MPs who has shown any interest in this whole issue and who has responded sympathetically to those of us concerned about women's rights in a changing world.

Germany - migrant crime for 2015 soars to 400,000+

Why is Canada celebrating Hijab Day, when Muslim women have been murdered by members of their own families for declining to wear one?

www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7464/ottawa-hijab-day

Why is Canada pushing a religious symbol, it's not for a govt to do that, surely?

Germany - migrant crime for 2015 soars to 400,000+

Britt that report is appalling - among much else, it's the reported increase of 80% over the previous year which especially worries me

If those figures are even vaguely correct, Germany needs to get a grip on this right now. As we've all said on other threads, the risk of the far right driving the narrative instead is ghastly - and I don't imagine they're unaware of the stats Hmm

BrittEkland · 21/02/2016 14:45

There's something going on behind the scenes. Why would modern, orderly societies such as Germany, Austria and the rest commit cultural-population-financial suicide?

kesstrel · 21/02/2016 15:09

While I have no doubt that crime has gone up, some of what is in that article is very dubious. For example, arguing that if 200,000 crimes have been committed by new immigrants, that must mean that 20% of the million new immigrants are criminals. Umm, no, maybe some of the criminals actually committed more than one crime during the course of the year....???? Hmm

It's this kind of statistical illiteracy (but always erring in a particular direction) that particularly concerns me about reports from sources with an agenda such as Gatestone. The tendency in this report to "extrapolate" without warrant from a modest amount of actual data is particularly concerning.

It's fairly obvious that if you increase your population by immigration, the absolute numbers of crime are bound to go up. Likewise, if you suddenly have X times as many immigrants as before, immigrant crime is likely to go up by a factor of X. What you really need to know here is what the crime rate is for the indigenous population, and how that compares to the crime rate for the migrants.

emilybohemia · 21/02/2016 15:30

That's a good point Kesstrel.

AgainstTheGlock · 21/02/2016 15:36

Yes, excellent point - and we could further extrapolate those figures to show - e.g., the imbalance of the sexes due to migration and show:

  1. Chance of being sexually assaulted as a woman in 2013 = 1:x
  2. Chance of being sexually assaulted as a woman in 2016 = 1:y

Where x = e.g., 1 in 1000, but with increased males with questionable values towards women y = e.g., 1 in 300.

AgainstTheGlock · 21/02/2016 15:58

Or for example: population of cologne on NYE 2014 = 1.2 million, approx. number of adult males = 450,000, number of sexual assaults reported = 10 - chance of being sexually assaulted = 1:45,000

NYE 2015, population of cologne = 1.23 million, approx. number adult males NYE = 470,000, number of sexual assaults reported = 1000 - chance of being sexually assaulted = 1:470

LumelaMme · 21/02/2016 16:22

Actually, Glock, I think the total of sexual assaults 467 (thanks to the Wiki link from Mari).

So I'd put it as the number of sexual assaults vs the number of women in Cologne (I think my number for the women is an overestimate).
467:500,000
which equates to
1:1070

And yeah, I always read Gatestone with caution.

Do MNetters think that the recent events in Europe will make women more likely to vote to leave the EU? It's certainly influencing my decision

Inkanta · 21/02/2016 17:56

Yes Hermione it has influenced me.

LumelaMme · 21/02/2016 18:11

I'm really torn. This has just made me more torn.

Hermione I think it has influenced a surprising range of people, including a significant number of men I know.

I wonder if Sarah Vine had a word with him indoors Grin

Inkanta · 21/02/2016 19:27

I am torn. Wink

BungoWomble · 21/02/2016 20:09

It made me wobble certainly, but I've gone back to pro-EU. I don't see that leaving the EU will help stop non-EU immigration on the face of the current migration crisis, and it's non-EU immigration that's the major problem for women.

unlucky83 · 21/02/2016 20:31

Also torn ...at the moment I think I'm going have to vote out...(even though I don't know where that will leave DP -EU citizen lived in UK for 25 years.)
It is non-EU immigration causing the problem but then once someone gets EU citizenship they can move freely between countries. As it is with open borders some migrants appear to be moving though out mainland Europe, using various identities etc.

And quite honestly I would rather we had the biggest distance as possible from someone like Angela Merkel...
And after listening to that clip on an earlier thread I dearly would like Mary Honeyball to be out of a job...

Don't worry. your husband could continue to live in the UK if we left the EU. It's illegal under UN convention to expel in bulk people of any particular category, and the UK has no plans to do so.

That's why there was such an outrage when Idi Amin expelled the Ugandan Asians en masse - it was against international law.

Neither could Spain or any other country expel Britons resident in those countries.
