Cologne Sexual Assaults IX and David Davies Web Chat

LumelaMme · 07/02/2016 13:07

On New Year's Eve women in Cologne were amongst those who were sexually assaulted and robbed in mass attacks.
This is a link to the last thread which has links to all the others.

Some of us have begun a petition asking the government to uphold women's rights and freedoms:

THE PETITION _ Please sign and share
The petition

We also hope that tomorrow, Monday 8th February, David TC Davies MP will be on MN for a web chat between 1pm and 2pm - it should be a sticky on either Chat or In The News. David was one of the few MPs who has shown any interest in this whole issue and who has responded sympathetically to those of us concerned about women's rights in a changing world.

Good post January

I tend to be of the philosophy that the world is evolving as it should, and although it may look like this is not going to end well sometimes it takes a crisis point for things to change and people to want to change.

Those from misogynistic cultures are not welcome - there has been a slow dawning. That is progress in itself and something is going to have to give. Changes can take years I know but I think they will come. Misogynistic cultures from now on will remain under pressure to re-think it and change.

On BBC Met says" Police 'should be neutral' in sex abuse inquiries. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35546690 The Met is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement in Greater London, excluding the "square mile" of the City of London, which is the responsibility of the City of London Police. A thread can be started if some feel so. I will watch. I am dyslexic and hope you all understand this disability.

MariscallRoad · 11/02/2016 09:05

unlucky I found a Factsheet titled 'Progress Report of the European Commission on Greece's management of refugee crisis'. europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-16-271_en.htm see annex 2. That is Recommendations by the European Commission of 15 December 2015 and has facts what has been completed to January 2016. It says fingerprinting rate risen from 8% in September 2015 to 78% in January 2016. 218 people relocated to other EU Member States. I don't know about Italy. I ll try to find. The link has lots of Factsheets.

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 09:10

I read this mari and thought it shocking headlines.

BrittEkland · 11/02/2016 09:17

Thanks for the two links about fingerprints, unlucky

None of the migrants would dare behave like this in their respective countries. They have heard/know that in the West if someone accuses us of heavy handedness and treating people like crimnals, we will relent. There is nothing unusual about requesting fingerprints.

Why would anyone seeking sanctuary kick up a fuss about being fingerprinted? Unless (i) they have something to hide, or (ii) will have something to hide in the future.

As you say, some of the migrants are travelling on false ID but I think most of them deliberately destroyed their papers, so when they register they can concoct any name, town of birth, DoB, etc. It's a wonderful opportunity to create a new identity so that there is no back story to be traced.

Thanks [thanks Thanks Thanks

to the incredible, brave Kurdish women

www.express.co.uk/news/world/643053/Hundreds-Yazidi-sex-slaves-gear-up-fight-savage-Islamic-State-take-back-prisoners

I hope this report is true and more will join.

MariscallRoad · 11/02/2016 09:59

elsa I hope this is true. Many thanks.

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 10:03

reading up on Kurdish resistance, this is interesting too.

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 10:09

I don't believe everything in the media but if the information about Kurdish women is correct they are true heroines.

This has nothing to do with anything discussed her but gives me (the admittedly ignorant Brit) an impression of a strong female influence in Kurdish culture, of course I could be (and am likely to be) wrong entirely, but it's a fascinating article.

I worry these poor deluded people are being lied to and wound up by anarchic 'no borders' groups for political means

well we know for a fact that some migrants are in the clutched of No Borders in Calais I am sure this group has control over migrants in other areas too.

Yes its a spectacular home goal, great way of putting it. It creates an entitled greedy attitude that frankly puts people off helping them.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/02/2016 10:24

elsa

I am in tears, what incredible women indeed. Having already been caught and risking being caught again to go and fight and save their sisters.

If I was rich I would be making a way of getting funds to them right now.

Those poor women.

sportinguista · 11/02/2016 10:24

The Kurdish women have been doing this for sometime, I think I first heard of this well over a year ago, they even have a Kurdish female popstar who sings about it!

The best bit is if a Daesh fighter gets killed by a woman apparently he doesn't get to go to paradise and his 72 virgins...

Perhaps he gets a 72 year old virgin instead!

I think they are very brave and hope their cause suceeds.

sportinguista · 11/02/2016 10:28

This is the pop singer, her name is Helen Abdullah, she is raising funds for weapons for the Kurds to fight IS.

sportinguista · 11/02/2016 10:28

I think she looks great too!

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/02/2016 10:32

These women put to shame all those fit young men who are running away. They have suffered and seen far worse than most of these so called men, all power to these brave women.

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/isis-yazidi-sex-slaves-take-up-arms-for-mosul-fight-to-bring-our-women-home-a6865056.html

I have to say personally out of all the horror of this whole situation, the refugees and all the victims of this awful war, there was something about the Yazidis being captured as sex slaves, sold in markets that has moved me the most....being stuck on that mountain..

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 10:34

"If I was rich I would be making a way of getting funds to them right now. "

Ditto though the problem with funding in that region at the moment is that you just don't know where the money will end up.

I googled helen Abdullah

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/02/2016 10:35

more do remember many of the young male migrants have not come from syria.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/02/2016 10:36

elsa its a pipe dream but if I could I would find a way to make sure it goes to them, if not by actually flying there myself and helping.

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/02/2016 10:36

Same with me Mouse it was heart breaking what happened to them.

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/02/2016 10:39

I know Mouse but some on here will argue that all these men are running away from atrocities and unspeakable horrors when many of them are not.

sportinguista · 11/02/2016 10:40

It makes you so angry sometimes that you do wish that you could take a few of them out yourself Mouse.

There are many Syrian guys who are fighting back, as you say mouse many of the men coming to Europe are in fact from other ME/NA countries which are not currently affected by conflict/war. Their excuse is purely economic.

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 10:41

sport, thank you for posting about helen Abdullah. I am am a huge cynic so take this with a pinch of salt. However, if it's true what helen Abdullah says in the video (let's remember it is a means for propaganda) I am seriously impressed. What an inspiration.

elsadresswhereareyou · 11/02/2016 10:47

Interesting also, the juxtaposition of 'feminine' symbols with military iconography such as the golden high heels on the dusty ground and writing 'revolution' on a missile with red lipstick with military iconography....

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3092749/Female-Kurdish-pop-star-filmed-blasting-tank-s-cannon-ISIS-fighters-slick-new-music-video.html

It makes me quite uncomfortable. She looks absolutely stunning though, without a doubt.
