Petition

Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence

Recently, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults of a type previously unknown in Europe. We demand that Government brings forward proposals for extra measures to uphold UK women's rights, safety & freedom, and to expand police understanding-recognition-response to such behaviour.

Anything that promotes segregation should be seen as a backward step. It's not protecting women's safety it's promoting the rights of men to behave as they see fit towards women. Imagine if we had women only carriages on uk trains. It's a short step of the imagination to see that if a woman was attacked late at night and was sitting somewhere other than the designated 'safe spaces' there would be comments about 'asking for trouble', in the same way that women with short skirts out late at night are now.

sportinguista · 28/03/2016 16:54

Yes a bit by bit erosion of women's freedoms. Blame would fall on the woman for not protecting herself. What would happen on a crowded train though where the carriage was full up? Would women have to risk it or take another train? Would that then lead to having a regression to the ladies only waiting rooms, then where do you stop? Would we have to sit on certain sections of buses? It's a huge can of worms. And they've just opened it in Germany!

MariscallRoad · 28/03/2016 18:05

Segreagation is a bad idea and should not happen. It is a sign of failed state.

Cardamompudding · 28/03/2016 18:31

The bizarre thing is that the German chancellor is a woman herself. It is Merkel who must take a large chunk of responsibility for the mass wave of young men in Europe who have brought their mediaeval woman hating culture with them. The ultimate turkey voting for Christmas surely.

AnnaForbes · 28/03/2016 19:04

I was wondering if we should wear burkas too, in order to stay safe.

Cardamompudding · 28/03/2016 19:19

Might be sensible Anna, or just stay indoors..

AnnaForbes · 28/03/2016 19:23

Yes, thats what we should all do. Lets curtail our freedom immediately rather than deal with this fucking mess Merkel has helped create. Sad

sportinguista · 28/03/2016 19:34

It would be interesting to see reaction from women in Germany. How do they feel? How will this work? Will it keep women safe as once women leave the train or are in the station they are then vulnerable? Will they have to be met by male relatives?

It will not actually lead to increased safety but increased curtailing of freedom.

LanaLang66 · 29/03/2016 16:59

was wondering if we should wear burkas too, in order to stay safe.

I'm going to not only wear a burka but also stay indoors. That should do it!

LanaLang66 · 29/03/2016 17:08

I've just started to watch Orban's recent speech. He talks well, with sense. This is the downside to belonging to a 'club'. The situation has become much more understandable to me, it is obvious that the Marxist-Islamists have come together in an unusual alliance to overturn the West and to create a compliant, PC-manipulated, scared continent where there is no dissent and govt can ignore public opinion and do whatever it wants.

HelpfulChap · 29/03/2016 17:36

LanaLang

Going by how badly posters are falling over themselves on other threads to prove how enlightened they are (compared to us Little Englanders') I think the Islamic-Marxist alliance is already half way there.

Cardamompudding · 29/03/2016 18:07

Just watched this speech in its entirety. Thank goodness that there are some countries with leaders who were ahead of the game when the huge waves of immigration began - 'there will be no immigrant riots here, and there shall be no gangs hunting down our women and daughters'.

sportinguista · 30/03/2016 10:41

This was written at the time regarding the segregation idea:

"The End Violence Against Women Coalition tweeted that this was a “terrible idea”, saying that it implied harassment against women would be acceptable in mixed carriages.

The Tory MP Sarah Wollaston, who chairs the Commons health committee, said segregating women on public transport “just normalises unacceptable attitudes”. The proposal would not tackle the underlying causes of sexual violence, she said.

“In countries where women are segregated on public transport, this is a marker for disempowerment not safety,” she said in a tweet."

I watched a movie yesterday called 'Un Francais' or French Blood which followed a young man who got involved in the far right it charted him going from violence and believeing those values to complete disillusionment including the loss of his daughter etc. Although he moved away from it, many of his friends didn't and he had to deal with the criminal record that he had got from his involvement for the rest of his life.

It brought home to me that we risk this rising again if we don't discuss what is happening and what we need to do so that everyone can live in a society where no one feels unequal or afraid. The safety of women is part of this equation.

The Newfound Alliance Between Feminism, Marxism, And Radical Islam

AgainstTheGlock · 30/03/2016 21:24

I just can't believe that a feminist could join this alliance. Confused

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 30/03/2016 21:45

Tess not had chance to read that link yet, but I am reading about anti sematism (sp) becoming a huge problem in the Labour party? Is that right?

Read very sad article today about police failing victims of honor crime, they dont understand it and are "returning women to their families/communities even though its their relatives or senior members of the community who pose greatest risk to them"

" returning victim to the people who represent the greatest threat to her, and its almost always a her....It may be her parents or extended family. Women are also at risk when returned to senior members of the community who may be the primary contact between the police and that community"

"According to a report last year its clear that many many instances of honour based violence, forced marriage and FGM go un reported"
" The people perpetrating these crimes need to understand we have one system of criminal justice in this country and these assaults and abuses and worse are crimes adn they will be vigorously pursed.

" Murder is murder there are no cultural sensitives involved. Female GM is child abuse or grievous bodily harm, forced marriage may be kidnap and if the child is under 16 its rape. Its as simple as that"

I wish the Judicary, the police and everyone in between would all get on the SAME BLOODY PAGE with it all!

Goldsmiths Feminist Society stands in solidarity with Goldsmiths Islamic Society. We support them in condemning the actions of the Atheist, Secularist and Humanist Society and agree that hosting known islamophobes at our university creates a climate of hatred

goldfemsoc.tumblr.com/post/134396957048/goldsmiths-feminist-society-stands-in-solidarity

The 'Islamophobe': Maryam Namazie, an ex-muslim, secularist, humanist and feminist

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 30/03/2016 21:58

BTW In UK about 125,000 women live with FGM and world wide - 125 million Shock in comparison about 40 million are living with aids.

fourmummy · 30/03/2016 22:09

Mia That is truly frightening. How could anyone be against secularism? The alternative is unthinkable. Have the feminists gone mad (I say that as a secularist, humanist feminist). Tess - that article goes some way toward explaining what is going on. Thanks for posting.

MariscallRoad · 30/03/2016 22:18

According to www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings in UK University rankings Goldsmiths ranks 50th in UK, Graduate prospects 54% student satisfaction low. Academic strengths: Radical and unconventional approaches to subjects.

I don't have any relative or friend who studies there.

MariscallRoad · 30/03/2016 22:19

Not Harvard

SpringingIntoAction · 30/03/2016 22:30

The bizarre thing is that the German chancellor is a woman herself.

Merkel has no children.

Think about it.

A person who has no children does not have to worry about their future.

Limer · 30/03/2016 22:58

Merkel is only worried about her political legacy. She's going to be remembered as the second most famous German chancellor. Maybe that was her plan all along.

MariscallRoad · 30/03/2016 23:22

Back to basics, I mean back to Marx.

MariscallRoad · 30/03/2016 23:23

Who was the most famous German Chancellor?
