thinking more about all this, I wonder how one could support and protect teenage girls who are in care. they, and young girls with complicated home lives, are the most vulnerable in this climate of sexual abuse and harassment. It falls back on schools and SS doesn't it? more could and should be done but teenage girls would have to be seen as worthy of political attention and support. Who about girl guides? Do they address any of these problems? Could more be done?

unlucky .... It's a pity he did not hang in there, because what these people want is for someone like your acquaintance to resign. He would have been made to feel like a pariah, marginalised, hardly looked at or spoken with, etc. But just to annoy them I would have stayed and covertly recorded meetings, kept copies of Minutes and typed out my own version of what actually transpired in meetings - and then, I would have revealed the utter rotteness of it all.

But this is how my Labour-run council deals with people they do not want rocking the boat. I was quite friendly with the Chair and Treasurer of my local residents association. I even attended a few public evening meetings at the civic centre and saw for myself how councillors behaved. A resident would stand up and ask a question; because of the distance he would speak extra loud and clear. BUT the answer would come back unintelligable. There were no mics (no money we were told), and the councillors on the stage would not raise their voices so that their answers could be heard across the distance.

In the end, the Residents Association were told that Council would not deal with them, either by letter or phone, because in their opinion the RA is racist. Hardly true, because some of the members were Indian and African. Council simply did not want to answer awkward questions. This is the length and breadth of their democracy.

fish Not sure about in his case but pretty sure bribery does go on in that council over planning and nothing to do with any ones race or religion (but that wouldn't surprise me either!)
Lots of interesting decisions by the town council taken on applications to build very large garages or stable blocks, sometimes two storey, in brick or stone, with plumbing, sometimes even windows -often in the middle of fields (green belt land). And there doesn't seem to be a pattern...why one is more acceptable than another (except of course perhaps the size of the brown envelope?) After a few years they ask for permission to turn them into a dwelling...parish council object, for most the town council allow...it does seem extremely dodgy...

Morning all,

Just catching up after the weekend. Some of the stories from pp about local councils are a disgrace, though I wouldn't think the NI councillors would be much better.

However I was very glad to see that the EDM was started by a NI Politian and that the independent who I wrote to had signed. Its unusual that they can think beyond the usual Red, white, blue / green, white, gold politics!

The madness of John McDonnell is hardly a surprise, the man is a scum bag IRA Sympathiser, I did some research when Corbyn came to power (ugh. what a horrible phrase) to see who these people are, and was disgusted to see that Corbyn and McDonnell had attended many IRA rallies in their youth. And that when the Anglo Irish agreement was being debated, and ceasefires discussed, John McDonnell had spoken at a Rally suggesting that violence was the only way the IRA would achieve their goal of a united Ireland.

The programme for the 1988 event, on May 8 of that year, states that “in this, the conclusive phase in the war to rid Ireland of the scourge of British imperialism… force of arms is the only method capable of bringing this about.”

Fish - that's one of the hardest things I have in terms of understanding this "culture". Women who have escaped to the (relatively) safe shores of the UK are actively campaigning to hurt women!

VertigoNun · 01/02/2016 15:27

Women born into uk heritage families hurt other women. Did you see the thread discussion on this? Someone will pick at women whatever they do. Bottle fed wrong, breast feed wrong. SAHM wrong, working full time wrong. Want to marry wrong, want to stay single wrong. So the list goes on...

southernstar · 01/02/2016 15:43

Britt Ekkand , glad you found Gatestone , lots of good info
Re Molenbeek Mayor , she is being interviewed on Russia Today , now
She is being questioned about why the list of suspects was ignored

GraceKellysLeftArm · 01/02/2016 15:47

Oh please. I have been harangued about my decision to bottle feed - but I've never rounded up 50 of my closest relatives to heckle a rape victim. Do you want your medal now or at the Labour Party Conference?

GraceKellysLeftArm · 01/02/2016 15:53

Overcrowding and lack of supervision means "rapes on children" cannot be stopped at a Swedish centre: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3425640/The-lawless-asylum-centre-migrants-rule-Inside-squalid-shelter-ten-year-old-boy-raped-police-not-enter-just-TWO-staff-duty-600-refugees.html

TEN children so far have come forward to say they've been raped... of course you need to be quite articulate to pick up the phone and say that. I doubt the three year old at that centre did that.

WTF?

A Syrian doctor at the same centre was "prevented leaving" by other residents as he attempted to leave with a police escort - sounds like his daughter was assaulted too.

"They're all refugees" - but not all are created equal. On one side we have the doctor trying to protect his family, on the other we have the child/women rapists.

Then back in the UK we have the women championing the rape of another. :(

www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7289/pakistan-christian-girls
"Around 700 Christian women in Pakistan are abducted, raped and forced into Islamic marriage every year – that figure is almost two a day and the world does nothing." — Wilson Chowdhry, human rights activist, citing the Muslim non-governmental organization, "Movement of Solidarity and Peace." "Christian girls are considered goods to be damaged at leisure. Abusing them is a right. According to the community's mentality it is not even a crime. Muslims regard them as spoils of war." — Local residents, Pakistan.

OMG. If all this is true and not just propaganda women in europe are kinda doomed. I am sure there are many enlightened mulsims families who would find this despicable. maybe the problem is education....... probably many come from very poor and backwards places. on the other hand where we live even the most moderate families send their primary dc to mosque a couple of hours each day, that's after a long day at school, they have to sit and learn the koran for a couple of hours, not sure who much time is left for homework. i imagine that this shapes people profoundly and their loyalties mainly with their religious community? I wish people were moderate and everybody respected each other Smile

I believe that's the main reason why Highway Enforcement in my area will not fine those residents who drive for several houses along the pavement - because they know each other, at least by sight, from Temple and it would be embarrassing to issue a PCN to them.

This was my first experience where I live, ie, many parking in fractions, lots of complaints from blocked in residents and nothing was done....even got MP involved, council didn't want to know. Then in spite they did something to all the residents.

Then we had other issues and the council told me they couldnt work out the ownership of so many properties and shops where I live but they knew they were some how all connected.

Nothing wrong with this and its great to have such strong community etc, but it obviously means stronger position. I did wonder because a few own taxi firms had they got something in the council meaning they stopped getting the fine..

britt I have occasionally watched that program and even QT they have issues with controlling guests but that was ridiculous.

HelenaDove · 01/02/2016 16:41

Its bad enough that what happened in Cologne and what has been happening elsewhere has been minimized because it happened to European women but going by whats been posted upthread Sikh and Hindu girls and women and their experiences have been completely ignored by the press and erased out of most public discussion.

Emilys abscence also duly noted as it was the last time this was pointed out.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3181851.stm

wow very interesting thanks Bill!

The lady in the purple top who works with Muslim women had a lot of interesting stuff to say and the woman in the veil just kept shouting her down

Its a shame the lady who has worked with persecuted women couldnt get her voice heard and by the time cambell did clear the air ways, they were stuttering and couldnt get their point out by which time it was too late.

We should have heard more about the mosque where even aposates can come and pray and men and women, and gay people. Surely that is the way forward for any islam?

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 01/02/2016 16:49

thinking more about all this, I wonder how one could support and protect teenage girls who are in care. they, and young girls with complicated home lives, are the most vulnerable in this climate of sexual abuse and harassmen

and yet in the climate of rotheram et al the awful security company g4? was given control of childrens homes.

Its catastrophic....I have said it before and will say again, we do not do enough to protect them!

BrittEkland · 01/02/2016 16:56

nonvis .... "Christian girls are considered goods to be damaged at leisure. Abusing them is a right. According to the community's mentality it is not even a crime. Muslims regard them as spoils of war." — Local residents, Pakistan.

Unfortunately this is very true and it has been said on here by others who were then banned by MN. This is what happened to those Christian African girls who were kidnapped 18 months ago or so. Non-muslim females are considered barely human in some countries, but not all.

HelenaDove · 01/02/2016 17:09

Ive just come off fb where an HA tenant says his kitchen was fitted by workmen who couldnt speak English. This is unfair on the workmen and also the tenant paying rent who is entitled to know what is going on stage by stage.

Not to mention Health and Safety insurance etc. Tenants have got to start asking to see copies of insurances.

Surely you need to be able to communicate with the people whose home you are working in.

I find this very worrying but i suspect no one will care.

BrittEkland · 01/02/2016 17:12

HelenaDove ....... JAs and Councils appear to subcontract this type of work out to firms and it is they who employ overseas workers. Their work is usually very good.

HelenaDove · 01/02/2016 17:15

Britt i agree. Its just that the post i saw the tenant claimed they couldnt speak a word of English at all.

DespicableBee · 01/02/2016 17:35

The annoying thing is one month on, no ones been charged with the cologne attacks

GraceKellysLeftArm · 01/02/2016 18:36

Vertigo - seriously? You're comparing rape to the breast feeding debate within the UK?

WidowWadman · 01/02/2016 18:41

puzzled - would you say the same nonsense about male privilege?
