part 1

The events of NYE were shocking enough; the subsequent minimising and under-reporting were an affront to women's rights to equality across Europe.

It's a testament to the tenacity and commitment of this community that we are at thread VII; do join the discussion and feel free to share the links and letters to anyone you think may wish to be part of this important debate.

We are currently awaiting the approval of a petition to parliament.

Shortly we will post links for those who want to take a proactive part in safeguarding the rights of all UK women to live in freedom from the fear of mass sexual assault as we sadly saw in NYE and reports of which are finally seeing daylight across Europe.

Sonya, people are posting on the thread the petition links to. I suggest you mentioned the early day motion there too. I suspect that is where you should place your press statement also.

He is a very dangerous man Allthemadmen.

januarybrown1998 · 24/01/2016 21:45

Petition signed.

Off to a meeting, I will, if helpful, post a draft email for anyone to use in order to publicise this important petition

I'm asking everyone I know to forward to ten people.

I have had some incredible feedback from quite unexpected areas; don't give up. Just because people can't publicly add their support, please know that there are lots of potential signatories out there.

I confess I had a little tear of pride in all of you fabulous types who battled on through all the surreal nonsense.

Great stuff.

Onwards.

I've emailed it to friends and they are shocked and horrified at the events. They had no idea things were so bad.

May include Students Unions and Local Councillors.

JustWonderingZ · 25/01/2016 00:15

Signed and shared on FB. Well done MNetters. We can't let this go. The establishment has crossed the line this time. Fed up with all the lies and the deafening silence from public figures.

MariscallRoad · 25/01/2016 01:45

I emailed also my MP (Labour) the petition and the Early Day Motion.

TheNewStatesman · 25/01/2016 02:33

Signed and shared.

sportinguista · 25/01/2016 06:04

Just seen an article on BBC news about the resistance in Syria. These are the real heroes, the ones who stay behind, who risk all to tell the world to make sure the people left behind don't join IS. IS is assassinating them even when they do flee which many have to do once they are discovered. But there are many they still cannot find. I felt myself give a silent cheer to those people and hope they stay safe and keep showing the world what IS is and keeping the hearts and minds of the Syrians left free from their taint.

The men from other parts of NA who are coming in as chancers are just making it harder for the genuine ones and harder for these people left behind. We need to make it clear that unless you are genuine you are not welcome and will be sent back. Helping women and children should be priority and safe places for them should be prioritised.

Hopefully the petition will keep the issue firmly in the spotlight and have some concrete outcomes.

As an aside in early October we were told by a Portuguese friend who had recently arrived from living in Frankfurt and whose girlfriend was still in the city (where she had lived and worked for a number of years) that things were getting bad with the number of young single migrant men, low level harassment, propositioning women, thefts and some sexual assaults. He said she was scared and had decided to join him in the UK despite having a very good job there. At the time I thought it just was a result of the initial lack of organisation and amount of migrants on the streets, now I wonder...

2016IsANewYearforMe · 25/01/2016 08:33

Signed. Over 80 signatures now. I hope it takes off.

Wordsaremything · 25/01/2016 08:33

Is the petition on a separate thread? If not perhaps it should be so people can find it easily?

alizondevice · 25/01/2016 08:39

Signed and shared. My profound gratitude and respect go out to the women who initiated this petition.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 25/01/2016 08:42
