part 1

The events of NYE were shocking enough; the subsequent minimising and under-reporting were an affront to women's rights to equality across Europe.

It's a testament to the tenacity and commitment of this community that we are at thread VII; do join the discussion and feel free to share the links and letters to anyone you think may wish to be part of this important debate.

We are currently awaiting the approval of a petition to parliament.

Shortly we will post links for those who want to take a proactive part in safeguarding the rights of all UK women to live in freedom from the fear of mass sexual assault as we sadly saw in NYE and reports of which are finally seeing daylight across Europe.

Vertigo - who threatened you?

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 13:43

I am going to think on the last sentence of the petition and see if I am willing to support it. Thanks for the information.

TwistedReach · 24/01/2016 13:44

Vertigo- nobody here would think you should be threatened.
People here have however said they were being silenced, simply because they were being disagreed with.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 24/01/2016 13:44

Twisted said "You want me to simplify in a way that i don't think is helpful. When I talked about why people may end up behaving in barbaric ways before, I was called an apologist."

Does it matter that someone called you an apologist? A paragraph from you about why you think some migrant men behave like this in public, in this case in swimming baths, might assist op in seeing this behavour in a different light.

Inkanta · 24/01/2016 13:45

'Whilst the Brits (and I'm sure the rest of Western Europe) are quite au fait with sending nude pics via dating apps - we (as a population) know that we don't ejaculate in the swimming pool or poo in the kiddy play pool.

You know, signs on the swimming pool from the seventies - "no diving, no bombing, no ducking, no shitting, no raping, no ejaculation" type stuff.'

Grace - exactly!

Never heard of this going on in the UK (or Germany for that matter).

Good grief - VERY 'creepy sexual shit'!!

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 13:50

I am not going to sign or promote this petition as the wording is harmful to women.

Inkanta · 24/01/2016 13:51

'I do not think the explanation 'it is their culture' is anything like sufficient.'

How about angry young male immigrants, culture and psychopathy - combined??

CalmYoBadSelf · 24/01/2016 13:58

Vertigo Could you explain why please? I don't understand how asking for Police to recognise and respond to sexual aggression would do that.

That is the last thing that was intended

Unfortunately some of the posters who helped formulate the initial wording that was rejected had stopped posting by the time the second draft was submitted. That might be due to the threats you have alluded to but I don't know anything about those

EasterRobin · 24/01/2016 14:00

Vertigo - Acknowledged. I will not use your soundbite to promote.

Inkanta · 24/01/2016 14:00

“Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence

Recently, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults of a type previously unknown in Europe. We demand that Government brings forward proposals for extra measures to uphold UK women's rights, safety & freedom, and to expand police understanding-recognition-response to such behaviour.”

Vertigo What don't you like in the last sentence?

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 24/01/2016 14:01

"Help- I wonder again what you meant when you said you were a trained observer and analyst?"

Those two key words seem to interest you? Is that because you used to work in Equity? Twisted

sportinguista · 24/01/2016 14:04

Is there any mixed bathing at swimming pools in the ME? Indeed are women even allowed to attend public pools?

If it's not common they will naturally not be au fait with women using these places. However I do not think that they would think it's ok to have a w**k or crap in the pool if it was just men there, so I think they were behaving in a way that was purely calculated to disgust and scare the people attending. This may have been with the objective of making it impossible for women to attend mixed swimming sessions, or any sessions at all. However they just got themselves banned and made it more difficult for genuine and good refugees who do want to enjoy the benefits that living in Europe can offer.

Just makes me think that these are not genuine refugees but just economic chancers/criminals that have just come in when the gates opened. They should just be sent back.

So as Inkanta says a combo of anger, culture and pure psycopathic hate which combines to be a 'I am angry and this doesn't fit my outlook so I'm going to make you notice me by hurting you and people you care about...'

evilcherub · 24/01/2016 14:07

Can someone please put a link to the petition in the first post so people have easy access to it?

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 14:10

Thanks Easter.

evilcherub · 24/01/2016 14:11

Maybe the petition should request funding for all women between certain ages to attend self defence classes if they so choose, in light of what happened in Cologne? If they can find £20 million to spend on English classes for refugees presumably they can find the money to protect British women too?

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 14:14

It's very challenging to stay in the middle of a triangle and sometimes you have to move out.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 24/01/2016 14:16

evilcherub I submitted the second petition, awaiting a Yes or No from the HOC. Therefore it does not currently hv a link.

TwistedReach · 24/01/2016 14:17

Help- I'm not particularly bothered about that being said. But on the thread where I was trying to think about possible contributing factors- you were clear that women did not need to think about this.
But.... One thing that comes to mind is the way that children who are taken into care because of horrific early experiences, can become destructive when finally placed in anything that resembles a more settled home. This makes looked after children particularly vulnerable to strings of placement breakdown. Violence, sexual acting out and smearing foeces is not extraordinary for some very vulnerable and troubled children.

As I said on a previous thread, I don't think expecting refugees and migrants to be grateful for sharing some scraps of our western privelege is helpful.
Of course most are grateful and it is a tiny tiny proportion who behave in disturbed ways.
Obviously, as I said I know almost nothing about the men who have behaved in these ways, and can't possibly know their own personal stories.
But in preparation for the apologist claims- considering what factors contribute to behaving violentlu, does not mean you support violent behaviour.
Culture (broad and narrow) can of course contribute to particular expressions of disturbed, violent, or self abusive behaviours.

emilybohemia · 24/01/2016 14:17

Who has threatened you Vertigo? No one on these threads has so I find it weird you keep mentioning it.

VertigoNun · 24/01/2016 14:20

depressionsupportnetwork.wordpress.com/2008/03/27/the-drama-triangle-and-the-winners-triangle/

A winners triangle type petition, was deemed unsuitable by government. Sad

TwistedReach · 24/01/2016 14:22

Help you made a claim about training as an analyst and observer and I still wonder what kind of training you are talking about?
I have no idea what it even means to work 'in Equity'.

Okay, Twisted let's put this to bed once and for all.

Firstly, my parents were stateless refugees (not migrants, immigrants, etc). They both spent 6 years each in a slave labour camp and all that that involves. Ten years previously, before becoming prisoners, they had lost their entire families.

Refugees do not behave like this because of their bad experience.

Children who hv had breakdown of placements, do not behave like this when they are in their teens & twenties because there are consequences.

Those that smear faeces on walls for example (like the IRA prisoners did) do so to make a political statement and to show contempt for those person who have to clean away their shit. It is a deliberate act.

Those men who have endured for years being PoWs of the Japanese and returned to their loved ones, did NOT behave like animals on heat.

And what is wrong about being grateful - my parents and other genuine refugees were. These scraps of western privilege as you put it were created and paid for by the West. Why dont you check out the two vids posted upthread which shows an Arab scholar speaking about how countries such as his should emulate the West.

I take it that your parents emigrated to England ..... did they behave like this?

TwistedReach · 24/01/2016 14:41

You are absolutely right it is a tiny, tiny proportion of migrants and refugees who behave like this.

You are not right that disturbed adolescents and adults necessarily stop behaving in such troubled ways because of negative consequences. Tragically a high proportion of prisoners have been in the care system.

Your parents, like millions of others did not break down in this way, despite their terrible experiences.
