Regenerationfez,
'There are terrible things done in the name of all religions, but it only changes when a light is shone on it by the authorities. When the state is in thrall to priests and holy men abuses continue, as we saw in the Catholic church for decades. If nobody is willing to challenge inhuman and objectionable practice's for fear of offending a culture it will never change. Why should it?'
Where is your evidence that the sexual assaults in Cologne were done in the name of religion? The facts are still emerging daily about the attacks there?
There is a lot of talk about sexual inequality on this thread, but the causes of rape and sexual assault are complex. As I stated earlier in the thread, there is no typical profile of a sex attacker. Is inequality between the sexes the prime cause of rape when many live in such societies and manage not to rape? The conclusion that the men carried out the attacks because of a particular religion or culture is a massive oversimplification and there are many factors to consider, the role of criminal and gang culture being one.
Mistress Mia,
'I don't want to derail this thread yet again, so I will stop posting any further, but your comments have confirmed once again how important it is that those of us who actually know Islam really need to get the truth out there'.
Where is your evidence that the men that carried out the attacks were Muslims and that the attacks occurred because of Islam? I am highly sceptical that you 'know' Islam. Poor treatment of women in some highly Muslim countries can be related to traditions, without any basis in the faith of Islam. Forced marriage, spousal abuse, and restricted movement directly contradict Islamic law governing family behavior and personal freedom.
