Changes this Millenium, Thomas?

BlueSmarties76 · 11/01/2016 09:32

Oh, shits! Yes, I did write the numbers the wrong way around! I'm not very good at this! Blush

Leave 100% per cent.

blob24 · 11/01/2016 10:40

Stay.

I know Switzerland very well for various reasons. For years all their laws have had to conform to EU laws, otherwise companies cannot sell their products in the EU, which is their main market.
Export = jobs, not only in the exporting companies but in all the companies selling parts and services to them.

Chattymummyhere · 11/01/2016 11:07

Leave

Efferlunt · 11/01/2016 11:12

Stay!

Without membership of EU, UK would have to find trade negotiators for all countries outside of EU (plus negotiators for trade with EU itself). Someone on radio was saying that this (being a trade negotiator) will become a big growth industry if we leave EU, UK will have to import such commercial trade negotiators from all over rest of the world. So will be well-paid profession in future.

Taxpayers will foot the bill for all these professionals, of course. Maybe can form a cooperative of joint negotiators for Norway & Swiss, too.

PedantPending · 11/01/2016 11:14

Stay and take a much more involved and pro-active role, rather than just creaming off the good bits and putting our heads in the sand over the rest.
I also say stay because I live in an EU country and am concerned that my status here would be degraded if the UK left. I do not wish to apply for citizenship of this country and probably couldn't anyway.

NetballHoop · 11/01/2016 11:18

Stay.

We will be worse off if the EU falls apart, and if we leave it will be a catalyst for others to leave too.

OnlyLovers · 11/01/2016 11:19

Stay.

If we left, businesses would leave the UK in hordes and leave us a fucking backwater.

Ideologically too, I just believe more in free movement than in closed borders and barriers.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/01/2016 11:22

Stay, with reform.

But it's difficult as there are many things about the EU I don't like. All the petty bureaucratting; there's enough of that already.

But I only get to live here because of my EU passport. And the original intentions of the EU - making trade and travel easier - are still good.

I'll have been here 10 years at the end of 2016 so maybe I'd be OK in the event of a vote to Leave.

BreakingDad77 · 11/01/2016 11:40

Stay as our company gets a lot of work from Europe which UK won't start paying for when we leave.

SwedeDreams · 11/01/2016 11:42

Stay.

BlueSmarties76 · 11/01/2016 12:10

I find it interesting the way people say they want to stay, but with 'reform'. I'm curious: what reforms would be adequate? What should the aim of reform be? What's the positive vision for the EU? I just see a sclerotic, anti-democratic parasite bureaucracy that duplicates and tries to usurp the sovereign activities of individual nations; but clearly others see a need and a benefit to a united EU. I'd love to hear someone make the case for the positive vision.

2016IsANewYearforMe · 11/01/2016 13:50

I just want to be in a free trade zone with cooperation in Interpol. I think it is perfectly possible outside the EU. In fact, only possible outside the EU.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 13:54

A loose cooperative alliance with Norway and Switzerland sounds not bad.
