Would you vote to stay or leave the EU?

Quick poll.

Stay in the vague hope that being part of Europe will somehow moderate the dictatorship that Cameron would like to impose on the country.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 20/02/2016 12:35

GG was the only speaker during the referendum in Scotland who showed some passion for the union that reflected my views and thank goodness he took on the SNP with a bit of panache! The rest of the no campainers were rather like rabbits in the headlights.( nb I can't stand most of George's work..)

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 20/02/2016 12:45

My guess (having just read raheem kassan's account and if he is typical) is that young right wing folk huffed out over historical comments, after having spent time recently condemning current leftist no platforming shenanigans at universities!

claig · 20/02/2016 12:48

'Stay in the vague hope that being part of Europe will somehow moderate the dictatorship that Cameron would like to impose on the country.'

But Cameron is doing his utmost to stay in the European Union. He doesn't want the power to break free and impose his own laws.

'GG was the only speaker during the referendum in Scotland who showed some passion for the union'

Absolutely. That is what the Establishment happened to want too.

I used to listen to Galloway on his radio show and I begun to understand what he was all about and where he comes from. In my opinion, he bases most of his views on international socialism and is not particularly in favour of national sovereignty.

claig · 20/02/2016 12:51

SonyaAtTheSamovar, you are right i think. I am not sure about Raheem Kassan. He was from Breitbart and played a role with UKIP for a while.

Politics is skullduggery. Powerful interests want their way and they need to influence the people to get it.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 20/02/2016 12:56

I have come across a couple of people who think Cameron wants OUT of the EU.
And a Labour politician who didn't disabuse them of the notion..

Cameron wants to stay in!

TheNewStatesman · 20/02/2016 14:35

I am pro Remain but agree with others about the fucking actors and luvvies. Just SHUT UP already, Thompson and everyone else. You are doing nothing but alienating people who might otherwise have considered voting to stay in. ET's remarks in particular were obnoxious.

polyhymnia · 20/02/2016 15:35

Absolutely agree, Newstatesman. I'm also v much remain but inane luvvie comments like hers will hinder not help the cause.

claig · 20/02/2016 20:43

Louise Mensch has a good point on Farage and Raheem over Galloway. I was never quite sure if Raheem was for real and therefore I thought that Farage's judgement may also not be right.

"Louise Mensch ‏@LouiseMensch · 17 hrs17 hours ago

Raheem and Nigel strike again. Now get lost and let @vote_leave deliver #Brexit"

and

"Clear Farage wants to stay in and protect his pay packet"

I hope that Gove runs the whole thing because he is serious and a good brain and spokesman.

claig · 20/02/2016 20:50

Louise Mensch has always had good judegement about Boris Johnson too. She doesn't rate him and has always said he is pro EU and she is rightly now saying, as well as a lot of other people saying tha same, that if he doesn't choose Brexit, he wil never be party leader.

The problem is, in my opinion, that his heart will probably not be for Brexit, so if he does choose it, I wouldn't trust him as spokesman because I could see him losing it.

I much prefer Gove. Very clever, very sharp, gets to the point and could run rings around Cameron or any of te other wafflers on the Remain side.

LeaveTheRoundAbout · 20/02/2016 23:56

I'm hoping Boris and Marina have been going over the deal with a fine tooth comb and will tomorrow declare DC doesn't have any thing different - showing up the charade of the negotiations to get precisely nothing.

GetKnitted · 21/02/2016 00:00

Stay... because... REALITY!

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 21/02/2016 00:05

But EU reality is a shambles..

QueenStromba · 21/02/2016 16:07

Leave. I was always very pro Europe but the EU as it stands is not fit for purpose. I'd be all for a United States of Europe if it were to follow the US model where the federal government actually has limited power but the EU is going the other way and is in danger of becoming totalitarian. Thanks to Manitee for the reasoned posts.

Jb291 · 21/02/2016 16:12

Leave.

Pixel · 21/02/2016 18:23

Leave, of course Leave!

The whole thing is corrupt to the core.

(sorry I can't find the insert link function)

Dave says we are better of in a reformed Europe. ... Buggered if I can see any reform of Europe in that lot.

claig · 21/02/2016 18:50

"reformed Europe"

Sounds too much like a "reformed criminal".
Are we supposed to forgive them for what they have done to us?

No thanks!
Out.

I think we are going to win this. When you look at the Establishment people on the "in" side, the insiders, it makes you want to vote against them as soon as possible and that's without all of the common sense logic for voting out.

BlackMarigold · 21/02/2016 19:06

Out.
I'm getting more and more convinced that we will be leaving the EU.

SpringingIntoAction · 21/02/2016 22:11

OUT

wheelofapps · 22/02/2016 09:42

I am not a 'tiny minded little Englander'.

But I will vote LEAVE.

That may offer a chance to negotiate a better deal with the EU but if not then we are well out of such a corrupt regime of freeloaders. We can still trade with Europe and the rest of the world.

However, a LEAVE vote would trigger another IndyRef in Scotland, and I am not sure I could stand that.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 22/02/2016 09:43

I think that the time is wrong for another Scottish referendum.

wheelofapps · 22/02/2016 10:05

So do I, Sonya but I live in Scotland and know a number of people (inc MSP's) absolutely gagging for another IndyRef. The Scottish elections are in May, it will be an SNP clean sweep, and that will add fuel to the fire too.

celeste83 · 22/02/2016 10:22

Independence from Westminster to be controlled by Brussels and Berlin Confused

howabout · 22/02/2016 10:35

Out. I voted No to Scottish Independence. I now want another IndyRef so I can vote Yes having seen the shambles over implementation of Smith and the complete disregard for the views of Scotland in the Labour and Conservative Party on Trident, Welfare, Education, Health, Social care, local taxation, housing etc etc etc. I think the reaction to Corbyn has shown that even Labour voting England is far far to the right of Scotland.

I think Scotland will remain a one party state unless there is independence. This is good for getting things done but very bad for oversight and democracy.
