Story here . What I find funny is reading the letter page. One of the reasons given for leaving is because of the amount of immigration to this country.

So when they move to another country, don't they too become immigrants? I also hope that they plan to integrate into their new country by observing their culture and learning the language, if necessary, rather than creating Little England microcosms in their new country.

We went to the Britannia British Cafe and Deli on Saturday, where vast amounts of saturated fat encased in pastry were for sale. Was that very very bad of me? I know the language though and I am shagging a local, hope that gives me extra points

speedy - the irony wasn't lost on me either. Friends of mine wanted to go to Oz last year (but were turned down in the end)...main reason? Because the immigrants were runing this country.... . I don't think they understood why I laughed...

A guy at work was looking to buying a house in Spain. Decided against it because, in his words, too many ignorant Brits were there.

I'm integrating...my daughter tried devon today and I bought Vegemite.....

I now say thongs, instead of flip flips....getting there!

why not? dh is one of those who opted to live elsewhere and funnily enough I am the one who wants to go back to visit the UK ( am happy living here) He is not homesick in the least and we mix with very few expats......

he knows the language has applied for citizenship and has two australian children. Has fallen in love with the work to live climate not the live to work climate of the UK.

NO way could you accuse dh of creating a little england microcosm...

he is one up on you sandcastles - He owns thongs!!!!

We came to provide a better life for our children - much better access to resources for our dd1 who has special needs and a much much better quality of life for us here.

The first time dd1 spotted a cheerio (at a party) she didn't believe it was food.

She loves Vegemite though. And she says "fush" like a native.

I still struggle to say "pear" in a way that locals understand...

dh is still saying peppers rather than capsicum, ice lollies instead of ice blocks, sweeties rather than lollies, courgettes instead of zucchini but he is getting there.....

no way will I eat vegemite OR NZ mArmite OR wear/say thongs. it ain't going to happen!

Can say 'fush and chups' with the best of them though

the immigration thing - some people just don't get irony do they. what they really want to say is 'non-white immigration' followed by 'all those people from eastern europe'. Going abroad themselves is completely different and they don't actually need to integrate either because it Doesn't Really Apply To Them....

Interesting reading comments from those who have fled, sorry, immigrated to Australia and New Zealand? I wonder how many have interacted with the indigenous population and bothered to learn or try to understand their culture, language, customs, beliefs etc? I also wonder if the indigenous population are treated as ethnic minorities in their own country?. I think I know the answer to that one.
