Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

Do you need lie down Emma your getting a bit rabid!?
--
Tell me, wannabe, if THIS was done to your child, your sister brother or parent, how would you feel?trust me, rabid would be an understatement...you would be psychologically and emotionally damaged for life......these children are not related to us but our humanity makes us feel for them and their families...and all other innocent adults as well! When I see their sandals strewn in the ground surrounded by blood and debris their homes turned to absolute rubble I wonder wtf they have died for and how leaders in the world can go to sleep at night

Pls be aware that its a Very very horrific picture akin to a horror film if you see that fathers pain and terror then good youre on the right track, he is in as many bits as his child, so please DONT TELL ME I NEED TO LIE DOWN, cheers

I wont be posting today anymore, maybe if I shut up the airways will be quieter so maybe some humanity can filter through them to the people that need to reflect on it! and stop destroying it!

Yruapita · 25/07/2014 16:51

Dont stop posting emma. I have seen that picture so many times and each time i feel a surge of emotions which words fail to describe.

But pictures like that have made the world wake up to the pathetic claims that Israel has always made.

ReigningQueen · 25/07/2014 17:21

Please don't stop posting emma. I can feel your sentiments and emotions behind your words it reflects how I feel, and others too, I'm sure.
Ignore the cold, unemotional, unfeeling and unyielding posters determined to not find fault with Israel.

zinher · 25/07/2014 17:35

One of the young men, Mohammad Suliman, on twitter posted this

"Outright massacres. My heart literally aches. The grief has become too devastating to even share or tweet. I want to shout, shout and shout."

So heartbreaking.

If you can (I know that it's not easy for those who don't live in London or have family commitments) come to the demonstration in London tomorrow. It starts at 12 noon at the Israeli Embassy then marching to Parliament for a rally at 2.30pm. We need to show Israel and our own Government how ordinary people feel about what is happening. This is one of the few ways that we can demonstrate how strongly we feel and the more of us that turn up the more potent that message will be. I'm going to be there.

In addition we can email our MPs, Palestine Solidarity Campaign website has a pro forma email that you can fill in which. You don't even need to know who your MP is to send it as it works it out from the postcode.

The charity delivering the greatest amount of medical aid to the Gaza strip at the moment is Medical Aid for Palestinians so donations to them will be very effective.

The news coming out of Gaza is awful and I know that many of us are distressed by it. It helps, slightly, to feel that you are doing what you can by protesting, writing, petitioning and donating. Please do what you can.

emma2277 · 25/07/2014 18:06

yurapita and RQ dont worry not stopping taking a short break, zinher of course its a massacre, just seen a report of hamas rockets and sirens making israelis run...its not good but ..thing is they know they probably wont die, gazans know they probably will, and the facts prove this to be true, laters x

Springheeled · 25/07/2014 18:06

Don't stop posting Emma. It makes us all angry. It's perfectly reasonable to be angry.

Springheeled · 25/07/2014 18:07

So glad there's a demo tomorrow and I hope it will be huge. Glad there will be a mumsnet contingent and some posters here are going.

SlicedAndDiced · 25/07/2014 18:11

Why did I turn on the news!

Israeli bomb this morning destroyed a house.

And crushed a heavily pregnant woman to death.

Her baby was rescued via c section 2 weeks premature, and only has a 50/50 chance.

The little hands. I can't get them out of my head.

( for once it's not just the pregnancy hormones making me cry)

timbucktoo · 25/07/2014 18:15

Please watch this. Its about an Ex Israeli soldier

wannabestressfree · 25/07/2014 18:40

Have you seen someone ripped apart by a nail bomb Emma? Hamas likes using those too. In populated areas.

You don't have the monopoly on horror.

ohmymimi · 25/07/2014 19:22

I cannot go on a march tomorrow, but have emailed via site fun mentions. I have already donated to Med Aid, but am about to make another donation. Seems very little in the face of this escalating tragedy. I always think Israel cannot be more depraved, but I am proved wrong, yet again.

panachronic · 25/07/2014 20:20

The damage the Israeli military is inflicting upon the palestinian people is in no way a proportionate response to hamas rockets or nail bombs wannabe. You need to give it a rest. And aren't the israelis using flachette bombs??

Yruapita · 25/07/2014 20:50

Oh yes, its perfectly ok for Israel to use flachette bombs to kill and maim Palestinian children, but how dare the palestinians fight back!

Nobody is listening to Israel anymore

wannabe. You have made a pretty disgusting statement about monopoly and horror in the face of such horror. Your comment is abhorrent. It is exactly why the world is appalled by Israeli regime and its apologists. You're both digging a hole for yourselves!

People are distancing themselves from the barbaric acts.

Handsup · 25/07/2014 21:31

Joan Rivers has ranted a verbal attack at Selena Gomez for daring to tweet #prayforGaza
It really seems it's the ultimate crime in the States for any celebrity to express sympathy for Palestinians.

PigletJohn · 25/07/2014 21:36

Perhaps Joan Rivers has her own perspective, and does not approve of prayer.

Handsup · 25/07/2014 21:56

She certainly has her own perspective. When asked where the Palestinians should flee from the attacks she replied 'I don't care' 'they started it'.

ColgateSmile · 25/07/2014 22:22

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that there will be a 12 hour cease fire starting Saturday at 7am local time.

Springheeled · 25/07/2014 22:28

In the meantime, they're getting their shots in on the HOSPITAL in Beit Hanoun.

Handsup · 25/07/2014 22:45

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that there will be a 12 hour cease fire starting Saturday at 7am local time.

Probably for Israel to reload their guns.

somewheresafe · 25/07/2014 23:37

It's really shocking when you see mnetters who you thought were funny kind caring apologising for the genocide and supporting israel. I kind of understand the loyalty to Israel as I too have connections there, but if your father abused your neighbour surely you wouldn't justify it? Al jazeera and the guardian have reported that women delivering babies and their newborns are struggling to survive. Yet women on mn are justifying this? I wonder if they will feel ashamed when we look back and dissect the genocide. Will they tell their children and grandchildren that they sided with the oppressor and justified the ghetto in Gaza and the murder of a whole nation?

Today the former bishop of Gaza stated that given that Israel is now focused on destroying mosques and hospitals the churches would be open and free for them to seek refuge and pray. In other news too rabbi Cohen attended the march in Manchester despite being told to stay away as it was dangerous. He attended and condemned the genocide to rapturous applause. Gestures like these are helping me see tiny glimmers of hope.

wordsmithsforever · 25/07/2014 23:43

God bless Rabbi Cohen.

PigletJohn · 26/07/2014 00:39

Somewheresafe

I sure they will convince themselves "we didn't know" or "it wasn't us"

ReigningQueen · 26/07/2014 00:51

Is Rabbi Cohen anti semetic then?
I'm being flippant, of course. I'd love to have heard him.
