Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

How vile is this?

ReigningQueen · 23/07/2014 09:39

Sorry about the above link. It probably isn't directly linked to what's going on, I hope. I'm just trying to stay as informed as possible but am probably going a bit off tangent.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/07/2014 09:39

god, and the journalist writing the piece, and the publication, were all about justifying his words and backing him up as being accurate about the 'realities' of the middle east. oh he's not recommending it so it's ok. jesus wept.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/07/2014 09:40

it is related queen - it speaks to the utter dehumanisation of arabs by israelis and the kind of brainwashing that goes on to legitimise inhumanity and allow the average israeli to sleep at night whilst women and children are being murdered in their name.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/07/2014 09:42

because these are not actual human beings, these aren't civilised 21st century social beings like 'us'. they are animals who only respond to the raping of their women - they have no reasoning power - no legitimate needs/wants/issues. we must treat them like dogs because there is nothing else for it, 'sadly'.

this is hugely relevant - it is the exact nub of the whole bloody whitewashing of mass murder and genocidal policies.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/07/2014 09:45

here's a way to deter terrorists - stop terrorising their people, stop trampling over their human rights, stop trapping them in a concentration camp without enough water or food or medicine, stop murdering them, etc.

no? there's no way to 'deter' them? only raping 'their' women would work?

ffs. this is an academic who remains in employment after saying this. can you imagine what would happen here or in any other civilised nation if a professor came out with this kind of statement about an ethnic group?

ReigningQueen · 23/07/2014 09:58

It's such a disgusting and vile view for anyone to hold that I think I started to doubt the relevance and authority of the article.
I'm actually so confused as to why no politician is standing up to speak out against this. The only politician I've read who has said something is lib dem mp David Ward who tweeted David Ward : "The big question is - if I lived in #Gaza would I fire a rocket? - probably yes" and has got into a lot of trouble for it. As a politician, I don't agree he should have tweeted that. Perhaps something less controversial but just as strong.

emma2277 · 23/07/2014 11:14

That professor was totally out of order....talk about incitement.....well he is an ultra right winger aka extremist

emma2277 · 23/07/2014 11:20

What I want to know is if it is true or just an excuse used by Israel that Hamas hide their rockets and launchers in schools and hospitals...but but, even if it was true, how do they justify blowing up the civilians there or do they say its their own fault! How can it be? If someone is ill they go to hospital, they are innocent.

PigletJohn · 23/07/2014 11:36

some people like to use the word "hawk"

ReigningQueen · 23/07/2014 12:10

What do you jean by PigletJohn.
I've read that it's not always true emma. It's just another lie so they can cause maximin suffering.

ReigningQueen · 23/07/2014 12:11

Sorry my first line came out garbled. I meant what do you mean by hawk PigletJohn?

PigletJohn · 23/07/2014 12:13

we had someone the other day who preferred to use the word "hawk" rather than describe someone's attitude. It might be because it has less emotional effect than calling a politician or general a "blood-thirsty warmonger"

emma2277 · 23/07/2014 12:49

Thanks RQ....one if the main reasons I dont trust the Israeli govt/ spokespeople is because what they say is not only rehashed and repetivive but it just does not ring true.....they dint come across as trustworthy but as aggressive sods

PS to the poster who posted that video of BN chatting and being recorded, it was his father who was Polish and changed his name not BN but BN obviously has got alot of his fathers influence re zionism

Backinthering · 23/07/2014 13:32

I'm impressed with David Ward refusing to apologise. Less impressed with the Lib Dem leadership who somehow view his comment as unacceptable. .. just shows how unthinkingly entrenched pro israeli bias is within the establishment.

Pangurban · 23/07/2014 13:35

I know the situation is more complicated than my input will address. However, I find it interesting how much political outrage there is about the probable accidental shooting down of the jet over Ukraine (which was mistaken for a ukranian military jet) and the lack of outrage over the deliberate targeting of civilians in Gaza (children, hospitals and nursing homes). It seems they are regarded as fair game as they are 'complicit' in some way or fair collateral simply 'cos they are from Gaza. And the power that be seem to be going along with it as being an unfortunate scenario but not an outrageous case of cold blooded murder.

Just for the record, I think it is outrageous the jet was shot down 'by mistake' and sympathetic to the plane casualties.

I am also shocked at the moral ambivalence of the free world's head honchos in relation to the duck shoot in Gaza.

PigletJohn · 23/07/2014 13:40

it was not accidentally shot down. It was deliberately shot down. However the people who shot it down may have thought it was full of Ukrainians.

Pangurban · 23/07/2014 13:52

Ok, the shooting itself wasn't accidental. However, it was mistaken identity as they thought it was a Ukranian militry jet or similar. Which begs the question about any other jets shot down with Ukranians on board.

The targeting of civilians in Gaza is most definitely deliberate. Point still remains about ambivalence on one where there outrage about the other.

PigletJohn · 23/07/2014 14:17

my guess is that people from Holland, the US, Canada, Australia, UK, Belgium, Germany, Malaysia and the Philippines will feel particularly aggrieved at MH17, because they feel directly affected by the loss of their citizens. The other European nations will feel a degree of affinity. These are mostly populous and well-connected nations, so it is to be expected that European and North American media, which we mostly see, will pay a lot of attention.

AFAIK Europeans pay more attention to Israel's actions than to other Middle Eastern nations.

I don't know to what extent Middle Eastern nations are concerned about Russia's military adventures in Ukraine.

Yruapita · 23/07/2014 15:18

I dont know what to say anymore. The incitement to rape is just beyond appalling. What is wrong with this section of right wing israelis? In Israeli regime's attempts to dehumanise the Palestinians, they are themselves lowly, despicable inhumane creatures.

Israel is fast becoming a most detested regime on the axis of evil.
