UKIP now have almost 30% of the seats on my local council where there is no overall control, so I guess they will have real influence.

In my ward they won the seat with 41% of the vote.

I live among these people and I have no idea what's going on in their heads or why. Can anyone explain?

Who are all these people - I've never met anyone who admits to being a UKIP voter?

They have resurrected someone called Alan Milburn, some sort of New Labour type, and put him on Sky News and he has said that we have to stop "kowtowing" to Nigel Farage.

Bring them all back, the entire discredited New Labour team - Tony Blair, Alan Milburn and all the other failed nonentities, and let's see who the people will back - all of that lot plus Cleggy plus Cameron plus Von Rompuy or one single man with a fag and a pint, Nigel Farage.

Owllady · 27/05/2014 14:29

Yes, they also cut the top rate of tax too Hmm

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 14:30

Claig ... Yes the Conservatives came a third in an EU election as expected since god knows when with what 24%, just under Labour's similar 24% and Ukip 27% - hardly the landslide you have been spouting on about.

Yet they are the party in government sorting out the worst recession in 80-odd years they did not leave in 1997 - so who cares out of the top two in 100-years.

Ukip have not won on a policy they can deliver, you really need to get that in perspective, you won an election on a lie.

If Ukip win in 2015 on 15 domestic lies, 'the people' deserve what they get - political impass and interest rates doubling for a start, as pension funds sell government bonds as they won't think we'll repay our national debt they are currently financing.

PomeralLights · 27/05/2014 14:38

Wow, thebogqueen just wow. I hope that was deliberately inflammatory. We give money in aid so countries in need can buy arms?! That's an acceptable justification is it? That's horrific, I know it's true, but it's horrific and should never be held up as a morally acceptable reason! Aside from which, the economics of it simply don't work - the state gives me £1m, I buy £1m of arms from a UK co, they make taxable profits of, say, £400k, what's the tax on that at 20%? A far cry from the £1m! And it's unlikely that the salaries of the directors or dividends to the shareholders will generate much tax, working in arms they are probably exactly the type to hide their money in Bermuda/Virgin Islands/some dodgy bloody tax haven

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 14:40

Owllady .... yes the Conservatives did cut the 50p tax rate Labour put up after 13- years to 45p, in their last 30 odd days, as how much was it raising - one figure I saw was there was a annual LOSS of tax - but ask yourself why did Brown cut Capital Gain Tax to a tapered low of 10%, before leaving it at 18%, and Osborne put it up to 28%.

Under the Conservatives the rich are paying far more tax; I do wish voters would do some research to find out the truth rather than listen to party 'class war' soundbites as a substitute for policies of their own.

I know due to the phoney 'class war' they'd rather bring back the party that crashed the economy in 1979 and 2010, rather than the party that makes tough decisions to fix it - but that is political life in the UK, no wonder Ukip gets 'inbetween'.

claig · 27/05/2014 14:40

'you won an election on a lie'

New Labour went to war on a lie. But there is only one reason that UKIP won that election and that is because millions of people turned out to vote for them. No chums voted UKIP, none of the metropolitan elite, just ordinary people in their millions.

This is what the Daily Mail Comment piece said

"The truth is that all three leaders appear to be treating Ukip’s phenomenal upsurge as merely a bad dream, which will melt away as the General Election draws near.

But they are surely deluding themselves. For what we are witnessing is a roar of anger from voters, whose everyday concerns can be ignored by the political class no longer."

The people have spoken but are the lights on in Number 10, is anyone there who gives a care?

Never insult the public, never call them "fruitcakes" because they disagree with you. People have put up with lies and spin and all sorts of guff, but there comes a time when enough is enough.

Owllady · 27/05/2014 14:48

To be fair isitme, I am far more concerned about what is happening at a local authority level with regards to care packages and services for children with severe disabilities as it has been something that has directly affected us. I don't earn any money so I don't pay any tax anyway Confused

My conservative mp is just as concerned as I am, if you are interested

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 16:18

Owllady ... I am interested; so when you listen to stuff like PMQT on a Wednesday, on the one hand you have the government saying that there IS money for serious cases, but on the other, in does not seem to be getting through via the local authorities - in your experience to date, is it not enough money in the central fund local authorities can claim from, or the latter getting their act together in order to directly help your case?

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 16:25

Claig ... do not DEFLECT about Labour a decade ago on my point, as you are gloating over an election victory a day or so ago, on a lie, on a platform of being 'different' and without 'spin' - when Ukip only had ONE policy.

This is not about 'fruitcakes', this is about the biggest electoral scam since John Wayne was a cowboy, possibly before. lol

What are the media expecting the three main parties to do now, when so many people want to vote for a party with ONE policy that the party they are voting for, DON'T TELL THEM IT'S A LIE?

Make up bigger lies of their own, to counter Ukip promises/lies?

Thanks for your contribution to British politics, Mr Farage.

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 16:31

Claig .... I reiterate a question I have asked you before;

Can Ukip bring the UK out of the EU. YES or NO?

If as I know the answer is , 'NO', how the hell does that give Ukip (and you) the right to claim any political moral high ground other political parties have to raise their game to match??*

One Policy - One lie = a 100% record of deceit. Marvellous.

claig · 27/05/2014 17:03

'this is about the biggest electoral scam since John Wayne was a cowboy'

An election where millions turn out to vote is not a scam. In fact I want more elections and referenda, just like UKIP wants local referenda on issues which have more than 5% support. That will stop all of the backroom, sofa government, lobbyist scams that impose unpopular policies on the people.

People knew what they were voting for when they voted UKIP. They didn't need a manifesto. They knew that UKIP were against the EU and wanted controlled immigration and that UKIP were different to all of the chums and the pals. That was enough.

'Thanks for your contribution to British politics, Mr Farage.'

Lord Glasman agrees. He said

"UKIP has done us all a service in one key respect: it has forced the elites to confront the flaws in our democracy."

The biggest flaw is that this political class of self-satisfied spinners and metropolitan muppets are able to preach to the people while ignoring them and listening to lobbyists instead. UKIP has exposed this flaw, which is why Farage refers to it as "The People's Army".

"Can Ukip bring the UK out of the EU. YES or NO?

If as I know the answer is , 'NO', how the hell does that give Ukip (and you) the right to claim any political moral high ground other political parties have to raise their game to match??"

Yes, it can, but not in the way that you think. The EU will collapse. All over Europe, people in their millions voted for populist anti EU parties. The politicians in Europe have all flown to Brussels to meet tonight to discuss what they should do to answer the people who have spoken. Some of them have their pockets full of sticking plaster to try and hold it together. But the writing is on the wall, one day the EU is going to fall. The people have woken, the people have spoken, the EU is broken.

But the UKIP vote is about much more than the EU or immigration. Lord Glasman and Ed Miliband understand that. Ed Miliband said it is about "a deep discontent with how things are run". People have had enough of not being listened to. This elite of spinners does not represent the people and Farage has shown that to the world. So there will have to be some changes. We may eventually be granted proportional representation through the gritted teeth of the spinners.

If the elite doesn't listen, then UKIP will grow and grow. Whatever happens, Farage said that the ""People's Army" is not going away. He said "You ain't seen nothing yet".

claig · 27/05/2014 17:12

All governments and all systems are only maintained by popular consent. If enough people vote against the EU, if enough people vote for parties that the entire media and political class call "fruitcakes", then the system becomes a joke and has to change because in the end the people are sovereign, not the puppets. That is why one day the EU will collapse, no matter what the tiny elite who run it want.

claig · 27/05/2014 17:19

These European elections were an earthquake because they rocked the system. The spinners called the people "fruitcakes", they even said they were "racist", but the people voted for the "fruitcakes" and had the last laugh.

Hans Christian Andersen would have loved this. This is the "Emperor Has No Clothes". All the Emperors have now gone to Brussels to work out what to do. Meanwhile Farage is in the Dog and Duck, celebrating by knocking back a few.

claig · 27/05/2014 17:37

In the last half hour Cameron, in Brussels, has said "the European Union has become too big, too bossy and too interfering". He said it should be more about "nation states" and Europe only where necessary. Huge changes are coming, because these Emperors are only our representatives and we have shown them that in these elections.

We may get back our old safe lightbulbs, they may have to scrap their 9 recycling bins, the people are going to win.

They all serve us and that is how it should be.

ttosca · 27/05/2014 18:09

Don't blame immigrants. Blame the ruling class.

ttosca · 27/05/2014 18:10

Left Unity press release

New left wing party Left Unity is experiencing a flurry of membership enquiries in the wake of Ed Miliband’s speech on immigration today.

Salman Shaheen of Left Unity said:

“It hasn’t been long since the end of Ed Miliband’s speech, but already Labour members are coming to us saying they will not be part of an anti-immigration party.

“We are putting forward a principled position. We are against all forms of racism and we say immigrants are welcome in Britain. Ed Miliband is just pandering to UKIP’s agenda.

“The answer to low wages isn’t to scapegoat immigrants, but to bring in a mandatory living wage for all.

“If Labour won’t stand firm in the face of UKIP then it falls to us to do so. We invite those disgusted by Ed Miliband’s speech to join us and help stop politics moving ever further to the right.”

claig · 27/05/2014 18:10

No one blames immigrants, everyone does blame the ruling class.

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 19:54

Claig .... I don't blame immigrants, we had 580,000 unemployed 16-24 year old in 2004 plus heaven knows how many more unemployed - MAYBE if 'the ruling class' would NOT have made claiming benefits over work a better alternative - back in the mid to late 2000's (as now), there wouldn't have been as many VACANCIES to fill from across the Channel.

In 2015 we will hear what 'the ruling class' plus 'the alternative' promises 'the people' to make their lives so much better, with £1.400,000,000,000 of national debt, to be reduced by a combination of economic growth, tighter spending and probably big tax rises for the general population later IF the first two can't be achieved by Mr Miliband, who's party is only used to spending money we have not got.

P.S. You can quote as many people as you want trying to make excises for the people fooled into voting for a one policy Ukip who CANNOT bring us out of the EU but pretend they can.

Isitmebut · 27/05/2014 20:07

Claig .... "Yes, it can, but not in the way that you think. The EU will collapse." Was that in your pamphlets?

So you admit, voting for Ukip to bring us out of the EU is a waste of time, as we have to wait for the whole thing to implode, when the rise of the far left and right wing parties elected last weekend could force some changes within - and if not, under a Conservative majority government, the people would have a YES/NO in 2017?

Ukip; One Policy - One Lie.

Vote Ukip in 2015; get a pro EU Labour Miliband.

claig · 27/05/2014 20:17

People want work. most people aren't lazy. They want a future that leads to an improved lifestyle. A government should be able to provide apprenticeships, training and prospects for people. There should be emergency government jobs available for the unemployed in government owned companies. Just like Margaret Thatcher never touched and always supported Remploy, Gordon Brown and all the rest of that crowd, should never have started closing down that great firm that provided jobs for disabled people.

Instead, New Labour and that gang of cronies, opened the country up to open door immigration in order to help big business and artificially boost their flagging economy and thereby harmed the job prospects of the unskilled in this country. Then they gave government contracts to some private companies to train the unemployed and some of the New Labour gang acted as consultants etc to those training companies.

UKIP won't do that.

"with £1.400,000,000,000 of national debt, to be reduced by a combination of economic growth, tighter spending"

If the ruling classes really wanted to bring the national debt down quickly then why have they ringfenced and actually increased the foreign aid budget at about 13 billion per year, why did they sell off the Royal Mail at what looks like a possible 1 billion price lower than it could have achieved, why are they proposing to spend about 50 billion on HS2 and why have they not cut billions by slashing the quangos and getting tax off this myriad of phoney charities that they have allowed to operate?

UKIP will stop all that. Godfrey Bloom has said they will save about 60 billion from cutting the quangoes and will save about 10 billion on foreign aid. Then they won't have to increase taxes on the hardworking people who are alredy being squeezed enough by the austerity imposed to save the bankers.

claig · 27/05/2014 20:20

'So you admit, voting for Ukip to bring us out of the EU is a waste of time'

No, because Rome wasn't built in one day. The Stairway To Heaven is a long and winding road. Voting UKIP is a sign of discontent with being in the EU and it is better than voting for "the parties of in" i.e. the LibDems, Labour and the Tories.

claig · 27/05/2014 20:31

Oh, and UKIP will end taxpayer subsidies to rich landowners to erect inefficient and uneconomic windfarms on their land.

This is a rich country. UKIP will cut the waste, stop squeezing ordinary people and start squeezing the fat cats. Where there's a will, there's a way and the "People's Army" will find that way.

claig · 27/05/2014 20:49

Labour are frightend of the newspaper bosses. They can't propose radical measures in case Murdoch and the Mail start attacking them. But UKIP are different, becuase Murdoch and the Mail and every other newspaper and all of the political class do nothing but attack them, and the people ignored all the attacks and still voted UKIP.

So UKIP will do what is right and won't let press barons deter them.

WetAugust · 27/05/2014 21:36

You know Nigel shoudl be asking the question of the Big 3

Why on earth did you give away our powers to Brussels?

It makes me puke having to listen to Cameron stating that Europe is meddling too much - yes, it is *because the Tories, Labour and the Liberals signed away our rights to rule ourselves, so there is no point standing there trying to pretend it wasn't your fault.

And here's a Line To Take for UKIP

Don't trust the big 3 - they gave away your power to the EU once and they'll do again - they cannot be trusted

And as for blooody Hessletine - I wanted to lob a brick at the telly watching him with Paxo. He still thinks he was right and everyone else is wrong on Europe.

No point sacing Cleggy - it's the message that the people don't like, not the actual messenger.

Isitmebut · 28/05/2014 11:16

WetAugust ……. Ha ha ha, more one-trick-pony-party propaganda that ‘all the parties are the same’ that does not hold up to anyone with half a brain, especially if they are using a quarter of their little grey cells to work out what UKIP can actually deliver, to those who voted for Farage in good faith.

Although I’d be very happy to give you individual party ‘control, Acts and Treaty sign overs’ facts over your fiction e.g. what happened/was signed after 1997;

NEWSFLASH, the EU election is over, UKIP is meant to be dazzling us with their UK domestic policies that are so ‘different’, for a UK General Election in less that a year.

As a further word to the unwise, keep banging on about the EU now, just highlight Ukip’s lack of policy depth – having ditched your ‘blue’ 2010 General Election manifesto to get ‘red and yellow’ votes – so now you reap what you have sown, having proved that any core Ukip domestic policy can be ditched for votes elsewhere, before the ink is dry.
