It was Kay Burley. About 3pm today. She made his case for him just now and I don't even think she meant it. In fact I think she's sure she made a good job of portraying him as a mad racist while talking to him about UKIP's poster suggesting migrant workers were stealing British jobs.

He seemed quite reasonable in the face of Burley. He didn't emerge as racist - protectionist at best - xenophobic at worst. He didn't even grab anyone round the throat or ask them if they'd have given it up a bit more their husband wouldn't have been tempted to murder prostitutes.

Then she went on about a pretty young woman they're featuring as a candidate who is from her appearance, clearly of Anglo-Asian background and demanding why UKIP didn't declare her background. Burley was the one who mentioned pretty. Not me or Farage.

Farage asked why they should and to be fair I had to agree. And also, she's a pretty woman who's used a flattering picture on her literature. Wouldn't you? If you want to know more about her views then read her literature and ask her questions, rather than the party.

Oh criminy. I had to admit that Nigel seemed reasonable. They're heading for a major result in the European elections. In my mad moments I toy with voting UKIP just because I've always lived in Tory constituencies and want to crush them now more than ever.

It could happen here. I won't do it, but the temptation is fucking strong.

I'd think it was a right-wing plot if I didn't know Burley of old and realise it was incompetence.

I'm just gob smacked by your ignorance ttosca.

It's all black and white for you and you're part of the problem.

Are you an elitist?

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:18

If you want to do that, then vote for another non-mainstream but not racist party. There is a large choice to choose from. You could vote for the Monster Raving Looney party - or abstain altogether.

I'll vote for UKIP.

Deal with it and stop getting angry and upset about it.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:21

So who are these 'ordinary' people which UKIP is standing up for?

It seems to be 'ordinary' refers to a very narrowly defined set of characteristics.

UKIP certain doesn't stand up for gay people, lesbians, immigrants, disabled people or Mulsims... and some of its councillors have some pretty reactionary views about women too.

So by 'Ordinary Britons', do UKIP mean specifically:

White, male, born British, heterosexual, Christian, able-bodied, and in secure employment? Because it seems to me that is the only kind of people UKIP don't consistently crap on with their hateful rhetoric.

claig · 26/04/2014 17:23

'UKIP has no chance of getting in to power since we don't have proportional representation in this country.'

UKIP have now displaced the LibDems in popularity. The LibDems are in power in a coalition, UKIP might end up doing the same. UKIP believe in proportional representation and referendums and local consultation. There is no need for despair, things can and will change, but they won't change if people keep on voting for the same old elitists who have ignored people's wishes for years. That is why people are voting UKIP in huge numbers, in order to "cause an earthquake" as Farage rightly says. Of course, the establishment cronies are throwing everything they can at UKIP using the media, but to their dismay, it is all water off a duck's back as the people aren't listening to them anymore.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:25

caruthers-

It's all black and white for you and you're part of the problem.

Precisely the opposite. If your reading comprehension skills were up to scratch, you would see that I am actually agreeing with you and claig about the widespread anger and disillusionment with the political establishment.

It does not follow that UKIP - a right-wing, bigoted, reactionary, nasty party - is the solution.

Are you an elitist?

Close to an anarchist. :)

I'll vote for UKIP.

Then you either a closet racist, or wilfully ignorant.

Deal with it and stop getting angry and upset about it.

I'm dealing with it fine. The problem is that racist and bigoted rhetoric coming from politicians can turn in to a wider social problem, as it can fuel racism and bigotry. Then it becomes my problem. Then it becomes everyone's problem.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:27

So which people are UKIP sticking up for, Claig?

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:27

Spouting off the same old propaganda isn't going to sway UKIP voters.

It's going to galvanise them and generate more voters.

Claig this out eloquently and refusal to at least recognise those points is a mistake.

claig · 26/04/2014 17:31

'So who are these 'ordinary' people which UKIP is standing up for?'

Ukip tops Independent on Sunday poll as the nation’s favourite party

'UKIP certain doesn't stand up for gay people, lesbians, immigrants, disabled people or Mulsims'

Channel 4 News has interviewed people in the streets and all types of people have said they will vote UKIP. Do you really think that UKIP has no gay, lesbian, immigrant, disabled people or Muslim voters?

Don't believe what Call Me Dave and his teenage spinners say, UKIP have a lot of support.

claig · 26/04/2014 17:33

'It does not follow that UKIP - a right-wing, bigoted, reactionary, nasty party - is the solution.'

The majority of people disagree with you - that is democracy. The majority prefer UKIP to Left Unity. Respect people and their views or you will end up sounding like Call Me Dave and his teenage spinners.

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:42

It does not follow that UKIP - a right-wing, bigoted, reactionary, nasty party - is the solution.

My comprehension skills are completely adequate thank you.

Your opinion of UKIP really isn't important enough to stop the groundswell of support. In fact you're being helpful so please carry on and help the UKIP cause by stating an opinion based on propaganda and hyperbole.

You're even ignoring the actual real popularity of UKIP.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:44

The number of gays, lesbians, immigrants, disabled people, muslims, non-Christians who vote for UKIP is tiny. The UKIP demographic is primarily older, white, heterosexual, Christian male. They are not representative of the UK as a whole.

In fact, their demographic, apart from lower education and lower income levels, pretty much matches the demographic of the establishment.

The majority of people disagree with you - that is democracy. The majority prefer UKIP to Left Unity. Respect people and their views or you will end up sounding like Call Me Dave and his teenage spinners.

The majority have not and never will vote for UKIP. Naturally, UKIP has more supporters because they were founded in 1993. LeftUnity were founded last in 2013.

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:47

If you don't think that UKIP will affect the leading two parties policies then there's no hope for you.

The Conservatives immigration policies already reflect this and it's a popular belief they themselves will start to adopt more UKIP policies in the future.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:48

My comprehension skills are completely adequate thank you.

Evidently not, since you and claig both think they I am denying how much the political establishment is loathed. I'm not doing that. I'm saying that UK are crap, and that they are not the solution.

Your opinion of UKIP really isn't important enough to stop the groundswell of support.

I know that, but ignorance never wins in the long run. The public - anywhere in the world - doesn't tolerate hateful racist parties for very long.

In fact you're being helpful so please carry on and help the UKIP cause by stating an opinion based on propaganda and hyperbole.

I'm basing my criticism on UKIP on what UKIPers say. And they have plenty to say about immigrants, gay marriage, disabled people, Muslims, etc.

You're even ignoring the actual real popularity of UKIP.

Keep working on those reading comprehension skills.

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:51

Evidently not, since you and claig both think they I am denying how much the political establishment is loathed

It's your ignorant UKIP hating rhetoric that dismisses you as a knee jerk reactionist and propagandist.

You can't even understand your own posts.

You keep hugging Dave and co and we'll make a difference by trying to change the face of greed and power in the UK.

claig · 26/04/2014 17:53

"The majority have not and never will vote for UKIP"

Ukip tops Independent on Sunday poll as the nation’s favourite party

Are they all wrong and are you right?
Take off your blinkers, free yourself from deadweight dogma and doggerel, get a political education, talk to ordinary people and above all listen to them (unlike Don't Call Me, I'll Call You Dave and his teenage Oxbridge spinners) and try to understand what is happening and why.

This is democracy in action. We live in a greatcountry with great traditions and democracy is the most important of them, so never give up hope.

Can we beat the elite? Yes We can!

ttosca · 26/04/2014 17:53

lol - hugging Dave and co!

You haven't been around here that long, have you, caruthers?

caruthers · 26/04/2014 17:55

I've been around long enough to see the wood from the trees.

Stop protecting the establishment and get your head out of the sand.

Hugging Dave doesn't mean you're a Conservative it means that you are protecting the status quo...which is what he and others stand for.

ttosca · 26/04/2014 18:01

This is hilarious. Please keep going.

It will also be amusing to my detractors, who keep berating me for calling the Tories 'scum' and calling for a revolution.

claig · 26/04/2014 18:02

Exactly, carruthers. ttosca is for the status quo.

The media, tools of the rich elite, owned by millionaires and billionaires, is against UKIP, just like Call Me Dave and ttosca, and they all use similar arguments.

None of them have any valid arguments against UKIP. We saw the lamentable performance of public school, Cambridge educated Cleggy against defender of the people, Farage.

Smears are the last resort of the elite scoundrels attempting to maintain the status quo, their wind turbines and expenses. But don't shed any tears for them, they'll probably get some golden goodbyes.

caruthers · 26/04/2014 18:04

It will also be amusing to my detractors, who keep berating me for calling the Tories 'scum' and calling for a revolution.

What are you doing about the elitist usurpation of democracy in this country?

AgaPanthers · 26/04/2014 18:07

I'm pretty sure Farage represents the status quo as much as Cameron. He's not exactly a man of the people, father a stockbroker, educated Dulwich College.

xpatmama · 26/04/2014 18:14

Claig and Carruthers so you are happy for the earl of Dartmouth,, Godfrey bloom et al to continue having their lovely expensive dinners, pints etc in Brussels and Strasbourg without so much as lifting their finger in the parliament?

You still haven't replied to this.

Is this really how you sock it to the elites, to vote for these people? Is that what ordinary people want, public school boys having a lovely time on the continent and being ever so controversial and eccentric but not actually doing any work. How on earth is that anti elitist????

xpatmama · 26/04/2014 18:16

And don't tell me I've been take in by the media. I've seen them. Some other MEPs are also guilty of this but UKIP is off the scale.

claig · 26/04/2014 18:19

AgaPanthers, Farage came from a privileged background but now he has thrown his lot in with the people. The entire establishment is reined against him. Plotters, schemers and puppets are devising smears to try and "save the cronies" and "stop the people's party".

They are using the best minds they have got. Teenage spinners and scribblers have been drafted in from Oxbridge colleges with instructions to "stop the people's party".

Policy units are burning the midnight oil, think tanks are working ten to the dozen. Briefings, documents and papers are being produced in such quantities that they are sending the UK's EU allowed "carbon quota" over the edge, but no one cares. Someone asked a high-up official if this wasn't "harming the planet", and was told in no uncertain terms to "cut the green crap", this is serious, this could be "curtains" for the elite.

This is too important, all the stops are out to "save the cronies". The big day is May 22nd, just 4 weeks away. Panic has set in in the elite's bunkers, mobile phones are being thrown, the language is so blue it cannot be repeated, the elite are tearing their hair out, and what really gets their goat is that meanwhile Farage is filmed enjoying the finest ales in hostelries up and down the land where he is welcomed like a hero and prodigal son by the people.

Ukip candidates add to Farage woes with barrage of racism

Party promises to act on social media comments, including call that Lenny Henry should leave Britain

Ukip is facing a fresh storm of controversy as further evidence emerged of racism among its local election candidates, including a suggestion by one that the comedian Lenny Henry should emigrate to a "black country".

Candidates have taken to social media sites to rail against Islam as "organised crime under religious camouflage" while likening the religion to Nazism, and suggesting that the murder of the black teenager Stephen Lawrence has received a disproportionate level of attention.

One candidate for election in Enfield, William Henwood, responded to a recent speech by Henry, in which he suggested there was a poor representation of black and ethnic minorities on British television, by tweeting: "He should emigrate to a black country. He does not have to live with whites."

Ukip said the party was "non-racist, non-sectarian" and that "any comments made by members that fail to uphold these values will be duly investigated and acted upon".

The latest developments will only add to Nigel Farage's woes after a disastrous week for the party in which its big advertising campaign has been picked apart. Ukip has already been forced to suspend the "poster boy" of its European party election broadcast after it was revealed he had posted a series of racist comments on Twitter. A builder in a Ukip poster accusing EU workers of taking UK jobs was discovered to be an Irish actor who migrated to this country, and a woman who appeared on a poster as a voter from Devon was Ukip's events manager and an assistant to the party leader.
