It was Kay Burley. About 3pm today. She made his case for him just now and I don't even think she meant it. In fact I think she's sure she made a good job of portraying him as a mad racist while talking to him about UKIP's poster suggesting migrant workers were stealing British jobs.

He seemed quite reasonable in the face of Burley. He didn't emerge as racist - protectionist at best - xenophobic at worst. He didn't even grab anyone round the throat or ask them if they'd have given it up a bit more their husband wouldn't have been tempted to murder prostitutes.

Then she went on about a pretty young woman they're featuring as a candidate who is from her appearance, clearly of Anglo-Asian background and demanding why UKIP didn't declare her background. Burley was the one who mentioned pretty. Not me or Farage.

Farage asked why they should and to be fair I had to agree. And also, she's a pretty woman who's used a flattering picture on her literature. Wouldn't you? If you want to know more about her views then read her literature and ask her questions, rather than the party.

Oh criminy. I had to admit that Nigel seemed reasonable. They're heading for a major result in the European elections. In my mad moments I toy with voting UKIP just because I've always lived in Tory constituencies and want to crush them now more than ever.

It could happen here. I won't do it, but the temptation is fucking strong.

I'd think it was a right-wing plot if I didn't know Burley of old and realise it was incompetence.

I think it may even topple Cameron if the Tories do badly enough. There might be a leadership challenge.

claig · 22/04/2014 17:53

This is the Kay Burley/Farage interview video. Haven't seen it yet.

claig · 22/04/2014 18:04

Yes, it was a bad interview by Kay. The media, the establishment and all the cronies are desperate to stop UKIP and save the establishment cronies by portraying UKIP as racist.

Kay is not good enough to stick one on Farage. Other interviewers will keep trying.

MadamBatShit · 22/04/2014 18:13

Well that's your mind made up then limited
From mad moments toying to voting UKIP, nicely lined up here.

Do you think it's going to get any better with them?
If the leadership goes to Osborne, we'll be better off?
Tory-Ukip coalition. That's where it's going.

WetAugust · 22/04/2014 18:58

So Nigel's not a racist after all -how disappointing for you Sad

He's only trying to get the brain dead poulation of this country to wake up and realise that everything they hold dear as 'Briitish' is being systemactically destroyed by edits issue by the non-elected EU.

And I do wish people would stop and think before they shout 'rascist' as our fellow members of the EU are almost exactly the same ethnic composition as ourselves. I has absolutely nothing to do with race.

It has everything to do with the fact that the UK is growing by approx 200,000 additional people each year because of immigration from the EU. That's a city the size of Newcastle. Do you want the UK to create a new city the size of Newcastle every year? I don't.

I went to a UKIP meeting last week at which their prospective MEP told us about his childhood in Bradford after his parents had emigrated to the UK from Pakistan.

Anyone shouting 'rascist' is just showing how terminally stupid they are.

You can all get back to Eastenders / Corrie now Sad

And the Tory PPB has just been on and it's crap.

Ubik1 · 22/04/2014 19:55

I just don't understand England any more.

I don't understand how UKIP is being punted as a legitimate political party when it is made up of assorted crackpots, little Englanders and racists.

although I do understand their desire to get on the MEP gravy train

It's very curious that they are getting so much coverage, really odd almost like the Conservatives want them to do well

Ubik1 · 22/04/2014 19:59

Links with European far-right parties
Ukip is part of the group Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD). The group includes representatives of the Danish People’s Party, the True Finns Party, the Dutch SGP and the infamous Italian Lega Nord – all of them far-right. Nigel Farage is co-President of the group along with Lega Nord’s Francesco Speroni, who described multiple murderer Anders Breivik as someone whose “ideas are in defence of western civilisation."
Mario Borghezio, another member of the group, declared in a radio interview that Breivik had some "excellent" ideas. Farage’s reaction was to write a strongly-worded letter to Borghezio, asking him to withdraw his comments or Ukip would pull out of the EFD. Borghezio not only did not apologise, but responded with an extraordinary speech in which he raged: "Long live the Whites of Europe, long live our identity, our ethnicity, our race… our blue sky, like the eyes of our women. Blue, in a people who want to stay white."
Nigel Farage did not withdraw from the EFD. He continues to co-preside over it, along with the leader of the Lega Nord. MEP Nikki Sinclaire, however, was expelled from Ukip for refusing to take part in the EFD because of their “extreme views”.

Ubik1 · 22/04/2014 20:03

And just a bit more in case you were in any doubt op:

One of their prospective MP candidates recently wrote: "A removal of multi-culturalism and assimilation of these people needs to be done to save them from the abyss of exclusion and welfare. Above all, one should not shy away of contemplating forced repatriation, or threatening it to further assimilation, as a result of their lack of economic contribution to the UK." In fact their position on “forced repatriation” and “assimilation” is indistinguishable from the BNP’s. Except, perhaps, that Ukip’s 2005 manifesto advocates that all incoming immigrants should be “subject to health checks” for “communicable diseases”.

claig · 22/04/2014 20:05

'I don't understand how UKIP is being punted as a legitimate political party'

Because about 25% of people who voted in last years' council elections voted for them and because they are likely to come first or second in these European elections. They have a lot of public support, so the media is no longer able to ignore them, now they have to try and attack them in order to save the establishment cronies.

MEPs getting on a gravy train is not what the public votes for. UKIP is fast becoming the popular choice of the people against the stooges, puppets and cronies of the established parties. People have had enough of spin, lies and let-downs. That is why they are turning to UKIP as a real opposition to the "we're all in it together" establishment.

I don't think the Conservatives want them to do well, because they are likely to damage the Conservatives' chances to win an outright majority.

Fasttouch · 22/04/2014 20:08

I can understand why people will vote for ukip, however I am not convinced they have any worthwhile policy other than those based on immigration.

claig · 22/04/2014 20:09

UKIP does not have a forced repatriation policy.
The BNP don't have one either.

WetAugust · 22/04/2014 20:10

better a 'little Englander' than a 'no Englander' - which is what we will all be all once England ceases to exist as a sovereign country

WetAugust · 22/04/2014 20:13

Fasttouch

Immigration is not the primary policy.

The primary policy is to leave the EU.

The clue is in the name of the party - the UK Independence Party that wants independence from the EU - i.e. to leave the EU.

claig · 22/04/2014 20:15

Fasttouch, UKIP want to scrap the bedroom tax, scrap tuition fees, scrap the Climate Change Act and the green taxes imposed on consumers and businesses, reduce taxes and provide a referendum on leaving the EU. They also want a proportioanal representation voting system which will allow the public's vote to count whether they vote green, communist, UKIP or for the establishment parties. They also want referendums for any issue that gets 5% public support.

Ubik1 · 22/04/2014 20:22

I can't believe you can even write about BNP 'policy' I've seen their policies, they are usually delivered with a fist.

But I did enjoy the irony in the way the UKIp supporter chose to highlight the ethnicity of their Bradford MEP candidate.

What about members views on disability? Gay Marriage?

claig · 22/04/2014 20:22

They also want to scrap windfarms and end the taxpayer subsidies to rich landowners paid for out of the pockets of the poor, who also have to pay higher energy charges to subsidise this inefficient means of energy production that is unable to end the repeated warnings that our lights may have to go out over the next few years.

claig · 22/04/2014 20:25

'What about members views on disability? Gay Marriage?'

Individual members' views are not the views of policymakers. The idiot preacher type who made the comment on gay marriage and floods used to be a Conservative councillor, I think, and he said similar things when he was a Tory. There are fools in every party, but they only make policy in the establishment parties.

Fasttouch · 22/04/2014 20:26

Well they have some valid points and there should be open debate on something which has a large effect on the country both positive and negative. I have my doubts about how achievable a lot of what they say I won't be voting for them but like I said I welcome the debate.

claig · 22/04/2014 20:28

"The UK Independence Party (UKIP) looks set to jettison some of the discriminatory policies it campaigned on at the last general election, following the appointment of a disabled politician as its new disability spokeswoman.

UKIP’s 2010 manifesto included a call to move away from independent living and inclusive education, and for out-of-work disability benefits to be paid at the same rate as jobseeker’s allowance.

But UKIP has now appointed a disabled former Conservative party member, Star Etheridge, as its new disability spokeswoman.

In an interview with Disability News Service (DNS), she distanced herself from some of her party’s previous disability policies, and said the new version would be a “radical change” and about “common sense”, compared with the 2010 manifesto.

She suggested that leaving the European Union would bring huge savings, some of which a UKIP administration might use to reinstate the Independent Living Fund, which is set to close in 2015."

Ubik1

I highlighted his ethnicity to demonstate to you that you were wrong in thinking that UKIP made up of racists. UKIP has many candidates of different ethnicities.

Much as you would like it to be so - it's not about race.

It's about leaving the EU.

But I expect you know that and are just harping on about race in the hope that some of the less independent thinkers agree with you.

As for policies - forget the 2010 manifesto.

As Claig says they do have policies. Here's just a few:-

leaving the EU thereby saving 55 million a day
controlled immigration based on a points system
reduction in number of non-clinical NHS staff
reduction in overseas aid budget
reduction in legislation that is an overthead on small businesses
scrap windfarms
permit fracking
..........

Jellymum1 · 22/04/2014 21:26

"it has everything to do with the fact that the UK is growing by approx 200,000 additional people each year because of immigration from the EU"

where on earth are those numbers from? scaremongering at its best.

Jellymum1 · 22/04/2014 21:28

but wet august

reduction in number of non-clinical NHS staff
reduction in overseas aid budget
reduction in legislation that is an overthead on small businesses
scrap windfarms
permit fracking

why would you want any of those things to happen? im not being funny I would love to understand

xpatmama · 22/04/2014 21:33

Argh. I see how the ukip operate here in Brussels and it's just depressing, happy to take their nice salary bad do fuck all work for their constituents.

Other meps from Efd have managed to change eu policy but the ukip do Nothing. Voting for them basically means much less of a say for the UK in EU policy. Much worse outcome.

Isitmebut · 22/04/2014 21:36

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha.

What can Ukip do about ANYTHING??????

If Ukip had EVERY UK MEP SEAT, they could NOT change a thing.
i.e. the Uk staying in the EU or the terms of our membership.

IF somehow Ukip obtained 100 seats in Westminster, without a single domestic policy they don't flip flop on depending who's vote they're after, they could NOT change a thing.

THESE ARE THE FACTS FOLKS, OR TELL ME WHERE I'M WRONG???

Farage's 'earthquake' in British politics is that he has suckered more voters to believe him with NO POLICIES HE CAN DELIVER, than has been achieved by all the other politicians put together - and these are voters who are looking for a change from political lies being deceived.

You couldn't make it up.
