To continue our respectful, open, interesting discussion.

OP posts:

According to the Telegraph:
Now Nel makes his own mistake, saying Pistorius didn't know that the bedroom window was open during bail application. He did and it is in his application.
I'm struggling to believe The Telegraph is more on top of this than Nel.

HowAboutNo your scenario is the only one where I can see that the window is relevant. Or the window is relevant because an admission that the window had been opened all along would be undermine OP's fear of intruders.

HowAboutNo · 14/04/2014 11:00

Bugger me, now we're going over the difference between "pointing" and "aiming" a gun at a door

StackALee · 14/04/2014 11:01

ok - so if the door slammed and it was Reeva who made that noise....

they need to ascertain if

a. Reeva was in the habit of slamming doors

or

b. The door always made a slamming noise

if it always made a noise like that then why would OP be terrified by it.
if Reeva was in the habit of slamming doors then why would OP find it unusual
if Reeva wasn't in the habit of slamming doors, at 3 am, then WHY did she slam it that night?

GladitsnotJustMe · 14/04/2014 11:01

Because he's denying culpable homicide - he has to deny he ever intended to shoot anyone.

If he had just admitted being reckless with his gun, he could say "Yes, I aimed to shoot. I didn't know it was her" At least tell SOME truth FFS

GladitsnotJustMe · 14/04/2014 11:02

He's crumbling.

BookABooSue · 14/04/2014 11:03

It's interesting how semantics are so important. Personally I'd struggle to differentiate between a whisper or a low tone but I would think there was a difference between pointing and aiming. If I point at something I'm indicating in its direction. If I'm aiming then it's more focused. However people do use words interchangeably.

StackALee · 14/04/2014 11:04

so he thought someone was coming out to attack him. Did he think someone was coming out.

he is now appealing to the judge 'it's not true my lady'

'I did not fire at Reeva'

OK, I know he is emotional but it always seems to happen when he's digging himself into a hole!

PD6966 · 14/04/2014 11:05

*Glad, you're spot on.

Allthreerolledintoone · 14/04/2014 11:05

Do you think he is putting on the emotion and breaking down just to have a break???

OneStepCloser · 14/04/2014 11:05

Oh dear, I missed that, Glad has he just admitted that he aimed and shot to whoever was behind the door?

GladitsnotJustMe · 14/04/2014 11:06

Interesting that it was Mr Nel who immediately suggested an adjournment there.

He knows he's on a winner now. He's using the adjournments to his advantage, he must be, but I'm not sure how it helps him to have another break now.

HowAboutNo · 14/04/2014 11:06

That was difficult to listen to.

The semantics are annoying me, it's dodging the question and the truth for me

AnyaKnowIt · 14/04/2014 11:06

I think the judge might notice that!

SauceForTheGander · 14/04/2014 11:06

Does anyone think Oscar's sister's expression has changed from angry denial of Nel's comments to WTF Oscar.

GladitsnotJustMe · 14/04/2014 11:07

OneStep Oh dear, I missed that, Glad has he just admitted that he aimed and shot to whoever was behind the door?

No - he didn't, sorry, I'm just saying what he should have said!

AnyaKnowIt · 14/04/2014 11:07

Glad, think its an another tactic from nel

OneStepCloser · 14/04/2014 11:07

All I genuinley think he is breaking down because he knows that he shot out and hes in denial, but that is just my thinking.

OneStepCloser · 14/04/2014 11:08

Ah, thanks Glad got dh on holiday from work this week and its interferring with this Smile

HowAboutNo · 14/04/2014 11:09

I think his family are blind with love, can't blame them for that. He has achieved and overcome so much, it's hard to look at the person you love and see anything other than what you want to believe

StrawberryMojito · 14/04/2014 11:09

Every time OP gets emotional, his voice gets higher. I think maybe Nel wants to avoid having high pitched Oscar on the stand for too longer and would prefer normal, dull toned Oscar.

OneStepCloser · 14/04/2014 11:10

Ooops, but hes said he did aim at the door?

Nerf · 14/04/2014 11:10

It's really hard to know how important the detail is - I know that when I had to recall important information (from my experience of something, not in a studying way) I found it hard and also remembered things later that I hadn't mentioned immediately. Also the use of words - whisper / low tone meh - pointing and aiming, I'd think intent to immediately fire with the latter.
Generally I think he didn't mean to kill her. I also think that I lean more to the intruder story, but on the fence a bit.

BookABooSue · 14/04/2014 11:11

Sauce I thought that about Oscar's sister at some of Friday's testimony too.
I think OP was telling the truth when he said he shot at the door. I really don't think he thought about the damage the bullets would do once they passed through the door.

Roussette · 14/04/2014 11:11

Interesting they have bought up the 'involuntary' bit which is what came up further back up the thread. I think he has gone into this trial trying to get off of everything and it's now coming back to haunt him.

As I said earlier - one shot could be an involuntary reaction but four??

Either he's been advised badly or he really thought he could get away with everything - very naive and the mark of a man who feels untouchable. Till now.

GladitsnotJustMe · 14/04/2014 11:11

I think maybe Nel wants to avoid having high pitched Oscar on the stand for too longer and would prefer normal, dull toned Oscar.

That's interesting - maybe he doesn't want to lend any credence to the defence's argument that he screams like a girl - and so avoids any scenario where his voice gets higher. Interesting theory.

Also, maybe Mr Nel knows how annoying it is that they break every time OP gets upset, so he's just allowing it to happen, allowing it to be annoying. None of it helps OP
