The corridors are from the arcs defined by the satellite pings (Goldie described as similar to compass drawn circles of a set distance)

SantanaLopez · 17/03/2014 22:17

Cheers Goldie!

AlpacaYourThings · 17/03/2014 22:18

ChaffinchOfDoom

Hopefully, if it was a fire, it was very quick.

Purpleknickers · 17/03/2014 22:18

Doctrine that is what divers get isn't it? Which I believe is painful Sad

GoldieMumbles · 17/03/2014 22:19

"hypoxia was used by whomever to kill people would it be just like going to sleep and therefore fairly swift?"

Hypoxia leads to confusion, inability to complete basic tasks, drowsiness, sleep, death. It's not especially quick, necessarily, but it's not really painful I don't think. But I've only read about it - I'm no expert on physiological reactions. It happened on the Helios 737 crash.

AlpacaYourThings · 17/03/2014 22:19

Thanks Goldie Smile

Quinteszilla · 17/03/2014 22:20

About the cyber security threat. Any system has the potential of a network vulnerability or security hole that can be breached, even in aviation. It is very complex, and there are yet no proper industry standards in place to tackle cyber security threats. It would require a huge effort of airlines and governments working together. There is currently no vision and no strategy in place for preventing cyber threats. I skimmed a report on this.

GoldieMumbles · 17/03/2014 22:20

"How big are these corridors ?"

Depends. Some are very narrow - a couple of miles. Others wider. But they aren't huge - they're not, like, 50 miles or anything.

GoldieMumbles · 17/03/2014 22:22

"I assume you could change the gas cylinders to a low oxygen mix but that seems like another level of complication."

It's not from cylinders. Pressurisation air is taken as bleed air from the engines or as ram air from an external air scoop (inlet) depending ont he aircraft.

Purpleknickers · 17/03/2014 22:22

Thanks Goldie I know it does not make it any better but hopefully if the worst has happened which is looking ever more likely at least it wasn't too brutal

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 17/03/2014 22:23

Ah, thanks, that makes sense Blush

magimedi · 17/03/2014 22:23

I've followed all the threads & news.

I just can't believe in some terrorist/hijack scenario because it would have involved so many people & I can't believe they would all stay silent for so long.

Sadly, I feel certain that, for whatever reason, that plane is well below the water somewhere.

GoldieMumbles · 17/03/2014 22:23

Got to turn in ladies. See you tomorrow.

Same time, same place?

Goldie

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 17/03/2014 22:26

If we haven't rambled on all night without you and started a fourth thread! Sleep well.

KaleCrochet · 17/03/2014 22:28

Hypoxia can lead to euphoria before unconsciousness, which makes it a more preferable way to go if you're going to go. It's why that tory MP was found dead a few years ago, upside down with an orange segment in his mouth and bag over his head... he was getting erotic kicks from an auto-asphixiation game that turned badly wrong Sad

KaleCrochet · 17/03/2014 22:30

Night Goldie... take a Brew of cocoa up with you

Purpleknickers · 17/03/2014 22:31

kale really? Well I guess there really is now't stranger than folk Sad I don't think I will google that , weird but hey each to their own as they say

AlpacaYourThings · 17/03/2014 22:33

Night Goldie

AnandaTimeIn · 17/03/2014 22:33

Yes, really weird, and quite frightening... flew Malaysia last year to KL and back

There's too much confusing information - the plane turning back, turning off the communication, yet still flying for about 7 hours.... etc.

If we want to go woo love woo! I thought it quite strange that the head of the Vietnamese Air Force immediately said on the day it disappeared that there was "talk" of a sort of Bermuda Triangle in the area...

Yes, I love woo, but I never stop searching for the truth... Smile

Just feel so much for the families going through this...

KaleCrochet · 17/03/2014 22:35

Ha! yes, I believe it must be one of a list of things that One Must Never Google

trixymalixy · 17/03/2014 22:37

I'd like the fire theory to be true. Then it's just a tragic accident which is a lot more palatable than hijacking.

Could the fire have produced lots of noxious gasses rather than being destructive and it burns itself out? Everyone on board loses consciousness but the plane relatively undamaged and flies until the fuel runs out?

98percentchocolate · 17/03/2014 22:38

Alpaca - I hope that's what happened. It sounds like the simplest explanation. But then why isn't the black's box communicating?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 17/03/2014 22:41

The two systems were turned off and the plane turned west where it was caught on radar and at some point must have turned north or South to be caught on satellite.

So it certainly wasn't drifting all along.

AchyFox · 17/03/2014 22:49

This feels odd to me:

Captain was brought up and possibly born in George Town

There were several sitings from the Kota Baru area, at 0130-0145 on the night, just East of George Town

That track would take MH370 directly over George Town.

Freaky coincidence or was he saying goodbye ?
