If they have hijacked the plane and landed it somewhere too use as a weapon where would they want to attack ? The silence is unnerving. I agree with another poster that the US an china know but wont tell us yet. I watched that programme about the plane vanishing on channel 5 last night and a lady mentioned cyber attack. Should we be worried that something else in the same form is planned?

if there was a huge amount of gold on the plane, it's possible the pilot and co pilot had a plan to land the plane and steal it. But where are the passengers?

It has Ocean's 11 all over it this one. They've even got an aeronautical engineer on the team to dismantle the plane and sell the parts to the North Koreans.

They also have a plastic surgeon on the team who will give them face lifts to disguise them.

I am sure the nations who are keeping quiet and a low profile are working hard behind the scenes.

Agree Hollywood will have a field day. Isnt it so that the best and the most gripping story-lines are those with potential for the most tragic and terrible outcome.

Would they not need somebody with them on the operations side, to steer investigation away from the real clues. Would it not now be easy to think that the people who pushed investigation in the opposite direction to start with aided the plane in getting away?

I would imagine the pilots house would be squeeky clean and evidence free if they were in on it.

Latest is the plane could be somewhere near Kyrgyzstan or China. Also that they've finished the search and the press conference scheduled has been cancelled.

Another interesting development this morning - Malaysian officials are said to have told journalists they believe the most likely location for MH370 is on land, near the border of China and Kyrgyzstan border.

There are so many theories and suggestions, and so few actual confirmed details. Its just crazy that a week on we know so little.

A government somewhere knows where it is or whats happening. They must. Its unthinkable that they don't.

Malaysia Airline has just released a new statement, describing the disappearance of flight MH370 as "truly an unprecedented situation", and defending their decision not to release information about the satellite signals sooner.The statement said: "Malaysia Airlines has shared all available information with the relevant authorities since the moment we learned that the aircraft had disappeared, in the early hours of Saturday 8March. This includes the very first indications that MH370 may have remained airborne for several hours after contact was lost, which the Prime Minister referred to today."This is truly an unprecedented situation, for Malaysia Airlines and for the entire aviation industry. There has never been a case in which information gleaned from satellite signals alone could potentially be used to identify the location of a missing commercial airliner. Given the nature of the situation and its extreme sensitivity, it was critical that the raw satellite signals were verified and analysed by the relevant authorities so that their significance could be properly understood. This naturally took some time, during which we were unable to publicly confirm their existence."We were well aware of the ongoing media speculation during this period, and its effect on the families of those on board. Their anguish and distress increases with each passing day, with each fresh rumour, and with each false or misleading media report. Our absolute priority at all times has been to support the authorities leading the multinational search for MH370, so that we can finally provide the answers which the families and the wider community are waiting for."

A week ago we all thought the plane had crashed. That was dreadful enough and may still be the case, but the developments over night throw up something much more sinister.

Why did it take them a week to realize this.

Whatever the outcome, the implications for the airline industry and political relations in many countries will be affected for years to come.

Upthread I was sympathetic to the Malaysians but now I am absolutely aghast at the fact that only today they searched the pilots house.

I mean come on!!!! They should have searched it as soon as the plane went missing. It should have been the first place they looked. That to me shows a serious lack of common sense.

Unless they knew that it was nothing to do with him. It's clear that the authorities have known much more about this whole thing than they were letting on. And I suspect there have been some deliberate red herrings posted out there too - they had to be seen to be searching where the plane "ought to" have gone down, because not to have done so would have raised even more questions sooner than they wanted.

This is just getting stranger and stranger ...

So a case of being able to investigate the real venues in peace?

I don't think it took a week to realise it, but they needed to marry up all the data available before saying it. SKY had an Aussie talking head aviation security expert who said that the time taken in analysis was totally plausible.

Dealing with media who want answers now is never going to be easy.

If you think back to pre 9/11 the events that day were inconceivable. Unless this is an accident, or pilot suicide, this could set off huge ramifications worldwide.

Maybe it's a double bluff that they are pretending not to know anything to lull the group responsible into a false sense of security??
I really can't believe that America, or even China, has been unable to locate the plane.

He same commentator, btw, mentioned a 2009 incident when a stowaway entered a plane pretending to be a cleaner, hid on board and was discovered only after take off. So I suppose it is also possible that the manifest is not an exhaustive list of who was on board.

Who's to say they hadn't already searched the pilot's house discretely. I don't think we can criticize anyone at the moment, as we don't know what is going on behind closed doors. Even someone among those poor distraught relatives may be in on what happened. What Moonfacesmother says may be true.

Double bluff? Let's hope to feeeeck it is. The alternative is horrific. None of us would have believed 9/11 was possible before that day.

It is easier to understand that they cannot locate the plane if it took the SW route and ditched in the middle of the ocean.

If it went NW it is much harder to understand as it crosses land masses and requires the complicity of others on the ground to get away with landing unnoticed.
