I think it's an example of how the fear has gone too far

the russian premier looked more weird kissing the little boy on the tum and he carried on regardless

He says I 'kissed her on the cheek or the forehead..whatever she says..I can't remember'
He was so downcast and sad about it. He's got 3 kids of his own.

Yes, I do. And what is the mother on? Seems so vindictive to make a massive issue over what was at worst an error of judgement.

Lucky she wasn't at our Y6 leaver's play the other night, where the clapping, congratulations and bunches of flowers part at the end turned into a total huggy, sobby, love-in.

Something on the radio - haven't seen it in the papers, probably on the BBC website somewhere. Will look

I feel very sorry for him too. A moment of spontaneous warmth has been transformed into a perverted gesture. I hope the Diocese are more behind him than would appear from the press coverage and I just don't understand why the mother is making so much of this.

I actually think that we should do more of this rather than less ...it's normal behaviour

He was right too when he pointed out that we do loads more kissing on the cheek socially now, we've gone really tactile and continental in some ways and way too overprotective in others.

Mother sounds a complete monster. What a horrible way to bring up a child. I think SHE should be investigated rather than him.
What a stupid, stupid waste of police time. Poor man. Bloody hell, a kiss on the cheek....words fail me.

there'll come a time when men won't go near children at all

no wonder there are no male primary teachers or carers

WTF, that mother should be totally ashamed of herself . Not only for damning an innocent man but for wasting police time too.

Report
snowleopard · 14/07/2006 10:21

Poor man. And the silly mother - it should be obvious it wasn't sinister when it was in front of the whole class. As per usual people getting up in arms and overcautious about innocent behaviour and ignoring where the real risks are - in their own homes and families. Makes me so and media reportage usually doesn't help. I'm glad in this case that the reporting has an understanding tone.

Totally and utterly ridiculous. The mother clearly has some issues. Perhaps she should be investigated. I could understand if he'd done it in a clandestine way out of sight of everyone else, but in full view of the whole school?? What on earth did she think he was trying to do?

We all kiss socially a lot more these days and the warmth of such a gesture probably did a lot more for that child's self-esteem than her mother causing a furore about it. The mother should look to her own motives and be thoroughly ashamed of herself.

Have read the whole piece now - poor man - there seems to be less and less room in the world for nice people making nice gestures

sorry folks, but as much as i feel sorry for him, when i was a little girl i used to hate it when older men kissed me, apart from my dad

i would never have told my mum though
