Hope no one else has started this.

OP posts:
OhToBeCleo · 24/02/2013 17:31

Jill that would be nice....but there's just one thing to say on that....'phone hacking'

JillJ72 · 24/02/2013 17:35

Oh, I know. You'd think they'd want to clean up their act, but that wouldn't sell headlines or generate income, or footfall on their websites..... And so the wheel turns.

GothAnneGeddes · 24/02/2013 18:39

Botha agreed at the trial that Reeva's injuries were consistent with O.P's story and they'd released the body for the funeral, yet more reasons to think the DM story is rubbish.

I think such leaks are from somewhere in the prosecution or police as they're keen to show they still have a strong case. Not sure why such anxiety as plenty out there don't believe O.P' version of events.

The DM should be ashamed of themselves, but no change there.

JillJ72 · 24/02/2013 18:43

... The alternative is OP's people may leak info to pre-empt others' diggings, which is bound to be happening....

OhToBeCleo · 24/02/2013 19:42

If anyone else was printing this story it would be different. But it's just the DM - that's got to say something? I don't know how the people who write that crap sleep at night. Imagine how much worse it must make if for RS's family?

WormCanner · 24/02/2013 19:47

I do think it's odd though, because that story was doing the rounds a week ago and seemed to have been discredited.

OhToBeCleo · 24/02/2013 19:51

The gutter press DM have no shame about sensationalising stories that have been widely discredited. Outrageous!

JillJ72 · 24/02/2013 19:53

NB I was referring to CP when I said that OP's people may leak info to pre-empt others. Remember now things will quieter down a bit, it's in DM's interest to revisit and republish.

Manchesterhistorygirl · 24/02/2013 19:58

The guardian, I think, are saying that the cricket bat story is fabrication and confirmed a such by the police.

OhToBeCleo · 24/02/2013 19:59

Yeah...cos they have no other way to get people to read them other than to scandalise 'news'.

MechanicalTheatre · 24/02/2013 20:10

I used to work with a woman who also worked for the DM. She was surprisingly normal. I was shocked.

LegoWidow · 24/02/2013 20:17

Yes, I know someone who wrote for them too - totally normal and lovely. She did features rather than news though.

I read somewhere - telegraph online I think - that the cricket bat story was totally discredited. DM are shocking

sunnyO · 24/02/2013 20:29

I wonder what this country would look like if the DM ceased to exist? more tolerant perhaps?

I would be ashamed to say I work for that 'paper'.

isithometime · 25/02/2013 08:23

Imagine if OP is innocent, the media coverage and police/media leaks in the press are an utter disgrace

jaynebxl · 25/02/2013 08:28

That's what I keep thinking, Isithometime.

hellsbells76 · 25/02/2013 08:35

Innocent? He admits killing her!

isithometime · 25/02/2013 08:47

innocent of premeditated murder Hmm

isithometime · 25/02/2013 08:49

so far,
he has battered her with a cricket bat (apparently untrue)
been taking steroids (apparently untrue and really bad rumour for an athlete)
didnt call the medics or police (apparently untrue)
I'm sure there are more, thats just off the top of my head

isithometime · 25/02/2013 08:50

he hasnt been charged with killing her has he, if he had he would have pleaded guilty, hes been charged with murdering her which is something totally diferent

currentbuns · 25/02/2013 08:52

I'll be reserving my sympathy for Reeva's family, to be honest.

isithometime · 25/02/2013 09:02

Of course Reevas family deserve every sympathy. Injustice of any kind stinks, and I hope there is a full, impartial and robust trial, and I hope the case isn't thrown out before its conclusion, for the sake of both families.

hellsbells76 · 25/02/2013 09:16

At the very LEAST, he's guilty of acting with reckless disregard for human life. He's very far from innocent, even if you believe his own account.

Animation · 25/02/2013 09:22

Hellsbells - completely agree.

Have no sympathy for him whatsoever despite him having a face that induces please feel sorry for me.

isithometime · 25/02/2013 10:02

The thing is, he hasnt been charged with reckless disregard for human life, otherwise he would have to plead guilty or innocent to that (and I dont think those of us who dont live in south africa can comment on whether his actions would constitute reckless disregard anyway).

He has been charged with premeditated murder, so regardless of whether any of us thinks he is guilty of recklessness, if there is not enough evidence for murder then he will be aquitted and found not guilty of anything (unless the state downgrades its charge to the equivalent of manslaughter or whatever it would be).

A conviction would be certain if the state had come with a lesser charge, but a charge of premeditated murder may or may not stick.

Animation · 25/02/2013 10:11

He fired Rambo style into a toilet - that's reckless disregard for human life in most peoples' books.

Therefore he doesn't get my sympathy because he's far from innocent, whether he's charged with reckless disregard for human life or not.
