I always think of 'staircase wit' comments to say to people when they criticise me for having 5 (+ ?) children - there are a couple of nice quips in here!
Average number of children in uk families 1.3 !!

Tell you what though i do feel like i have to look ok since i have so many kids - would hate for people to say 'You can tell' or even ' she looks dog rough'

Sorry, I appear to be talking to myself, I shall vacate the thread, as I have only one DD, though trying to increase brood atm.

\link{http://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/graphics/2005/10/12/efnmns_cass.jpg\she did an articel on marks and spencer too}

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:21

I actually think it is very important if you have hundreds of kids, not to sink into mumsyness and slop around in crap clothes and not worrying about bad hair/not waxing/being lardy. I buy my kids cheapo pasta and I spend a fortune on manicures and highlighs (joke). But I would hate to be defined as a mother of five children and not a person in my own right.

Rach69 · 11/04/2006 14:21

Well we have 2 cars (also have large dog)which we find works ok - we don't tend to go around mob-handed that often! I get Tesco to deliver my shopping. We did have to convert the loft to get the fourth bedroom. I wish we had a fifth for an au pair, that would cut the childcare costs!

cod · 11/04/2006 14:22

why do poeple have huge fanmilies an then a dog too?
never get that

NotAnOtter · 11/04/2006 14:22

ggg yes i agree! Do NOT want to be mumsy ( hikes slendertone belt up to full power)

desperateSCOUSEstrife · 11/04/2006 14:22

ggglimopo agree just cause you have a large brood
doesnt mean you scrimp on your looks

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:23

I AM LISTENING GINGERBEAR.

I just can't think of anything witty to reply with.

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:25

Cod - I am trying that new baggy eye stuff at the mo. Have a tester and am not allergic so am going to bomb family food budget on a tube (£70) Shock

Baggy eyes not related to child bearing but to burning ze candle at both ends.

Angeliz · 11/04/2006 14:25

I had my Dof first. Kids came later and DP sort of came and went inbetween the Dog and kids but now we're all together foreva!Grin

Rach69 · 11/04/2006 14:25

Yes def agree ggglimpopo - you have a duty not to look 'mumsy' or like Vicky Pollard either. I have long nails (despite the typing) and all my own teeth!

Piggiesmum · 11/04/2006 14:25

I used to think if i had children I'd only have one. Now ds is here it's changed. I would love at least one more maybe more but unfortunately don't know if it'll happen.

I look at my family, mum had 2 sisters but they are all living all over the country and don't see each other much, dad was an only child and has no-one except his mum, my mum, me (and ds) and my brother. OTOH Dh's mum has 4 siblings, they all still live in the same town with their families and all see each other loads. I know which family I'd rather be like.

Gingerbear · 11/04/2006 14:26

I have seen GGG, and I can confirm that she spends a FORTUNE on looking good Wink
She scrubs up well.

I am lardy, with unshaven legs, and wild hair (no stylist can tame it though). I don't even have a large brood as my excuse.

Flamesparrow · 11/04/2006 14:26

I think large families are great - couldn't do it myself though... I am having enough trouble coping with 2!!

My friend has 5, and it has been great for DD - we are there a lot, and it has meant that she has had 5 extra siblings (sort of), but has also her own little family as well.

I don't know if I will stick at 2 or go onto a third... I can see my mum being Shock about 3 - I can't count the number of times she's repeated "there are two hands, two seats in the car, so two children makes sense", normally if I've been musing about whether to have 2 or 3.

I agree that money shouldn't be an obstacle as such - as long as they have a place to sleep and you can feed and clothe them, then that is all they need.

Oh - and as one of two... I wasn't alway in "mortal combat" with my sister. Yes, we argued, but I remember sooo many good times too.

Rach69 · 11/04/2006 14:27

Yeah we had the dog inbetween kids too, makes more mess than all the kids but provides spare seating when we have a full house Grin
