Easily Bored
< This man had to watch his wife die in agony because her doctors were too scared, too stupid or too ignorant to act. That is a travesty. It's all fine and well talking about how reasonable pro-lifers permit exceptions for the life of the mother, but then you have to legislate what those circumstances must be. And then you end up with situations like this, where the mother may not have quite met all the criteria for needing a termination on the grounds of danger to her life, but by the time she did meet the criteria, she was dead. These situations are inevitable when you start from the viewpoint that the fetus is sacred and it's rights must be protected above the mother's. >

    1. Yes that is the situation in a nutshell. There is a large element of "don't confuse my abstract moral reasoning with reality" to some of the anti-abortion arguments.

Oh, and I will carry on not giving anti-choicers any respect whatsoever. Because they are scum. And I don't respect anyone's imaginary friends, either, because they area) imaginary and b) ludicrous.
I respect people's right to believe any old crock of shit, whether it';s Christian shit, Muslim shit, Hindu shit or Jewish shit, or any other crock of shit you care to think of. But I don't respect the shit.

Let's bring this back to the tragedy of SAVITA HALAPPANAVAR's entirely avoidable death.

Guys there is no point arguing with Extro. My DH is a theologian and I regularly get drawn into discussions of this sort (not with him though, thank goodness).

Extro's response will always be based on something we cannot accept because we cannot accept "God says so" as a reason, and extro believes "God says so" is literally incontrovertible.

After I donated ?100 to Choice Ireland last night, they sent me a gracious thank-you note with RIP Savita at the end.

If I knew of some way to fight the rot at the source - the disgraceful and shameful Papal encyclical Humane Vitae - I would do so, tooth and nail.

I would report your last post(s) extro but that would do readers a disservice because they are funny Grin

Extro, you never replied to whether your opinion on mental health not being a justifiable reason was based on your beliefs or good solid medical research.

I'd like to know seeing as you conveniently ignored my comment.

Notice extro I absolutely respect your right to believe what you do and will defend your right to hold those views personally. But I cannot and will not accept you imposing your beliefs onto others.

Xiaoxiong is correct.
I believe my faith is literally incontrovertible
and anyone saying anything contrary to it is wrong
and nothing posted on here can change that.

extro how do you think you would feel if you knew you were going to die because of someone else's beliefs?

I knew someone would diss Humanae Vitae eventually. It means HUMAN LIFE, you know? That thing Human Life International safeguards?

Xiaoxiong · 15/11/2012 16:02

I know you do extro. You keep on believing, you are a person of faith.

But you cannot impose your views onto others. If you were a smart pro-life person you would stop trying to argue with people who will never accept anything other than total autonomy over their own bodies and throw yourself into making sure that the number of pregnancies that women needed to terminate was minimized by

  • provision of comprehensive sex education
  • provision of comprehensive and free contraception and family planning counselling
  • provision of a rock-solid social support network to ensure that women and families can financially and socially support the children they have.

If you're still alive now that doesn't count. God comes in after permanent death, and I'm not sure what I believe about NDE's but they are not final judgment.

This thread is going beyond ridiculous. If people want to have religeous rants there are designated places like churches et for that.
I am not religeous, live in ireland and have five children. However NOBODY has a right to tell me what to do with MY body and its contents, same as i dont have the right to make the decision for anyone else. I ha e had friends who had always professed to be very anti-abortion come to my door for help to organise a discreet trip to england.
When i was pregnant with my oldest child i was living in a country where women have choices re reproductive issues. I was asked whether or not i wanted to go through with the pregnancy. He is an adult now and last saturday we met at the pro choice demonstration in belfast.

RedToothbrush- your sister should have the baby unless her life is at risk due to the pregnancy. Compassionate Christian does not mean advocating abortion. That's a RCRC mistake.

Comprehensive sex education? Fine, provided abstinence is taught as the safest (just not the only) way of avoiding pregnancy and morally superior.

I would prefer a better social support network, instead of hyper individualism... whoops am I allowed to say that? don't the BNP say that? fuck it, who cares, I'm called extreme right wing just for being pro-life anyway.

One big difference between pro choice and anti choice (aka pro life) is that pro choice respects other peoples views and decisions. If you dont want an abortion, dont have one. But dont tell me what to do.
