Belief in Judgment Day- by the one God and not by a false one- is evidence of mainstream faith, and my statement that I don't believe eternal torment puts me as less extreme than a good many Christians.

All three of those quotes simply say the God of the New Testament will judge everybody and he will punish killing unborn babies, offensive remarks against Him and those who disbelieve His word. Again, very mainstream Christianity and less colourful than some of the filth I've been subjected to for my pro life pro family Christian views.

The standard text is Matt 25:31, which does end with eternal punishment, though most Christians nowadays take that to mean something less than torment. The judgement spelled out there is on the basis of whether the person treated other people compassionately.

Not a bad yardstick, and one woefully failing in poor Savita's case, where some unholy combination of fear of a misunderstood law and/or adherence to religious dogma (can't get away from the 'Catholic country' thing, even though most catholics abhorr what happened) led to total failure to treat the sick. Sad

Matt 25:31-46 "and they shall go away into everlasting punishment but the righteous into everlasting life"

Punishment can include privation (e.g. capital punishment is the privation of life, not the act of dying) so eternal destruction is sufficient. The Greek is aionios kolasis, aioniois does not have to mean eternal but I believe it does as there is evidence in Scripture for everlasting life for the saved so it makes sense the word would mean the same appertaining to the lost in the same passage. The language of Jesus such as Gehinnom (a rubbish tip in Israel where things were burnt and "their worm shall not die" meaning they shall be consumed completely), and the parable of wheat and tares where tares are burnt up, all imply complete destruction of the unsaved to me.

Can I for one just say how massively uninterested I am in extros interpretation of specific verses from the bible?

Can you all go away with your biblical crap and god delusions. THis thread is about a women who died due to mediaeval healthcare in a first world country.

The rest of us want to talk about that.

My own personal bible "error analysis" by Hayes and Hughes has a fantastic section on how many decimal places you should quote errors to. Maybe we could discuss that instead?

what? not relevant to the point of the thread you say?

I'm an expat and get my UK news mainly from online tabloid press Blush...and I'm boiling as the news story has just dropped away. I can't believe there isn't more outrage. Do people really care more about sleb goss and TV trash than this story??

Anyone know whether the next step is the hospital's own enquiry? And when they expect to come up with it? And if it will be public?

Wow, Extro, there are many, many people on Mumsnet that have faith in their own particular religions and they get comfort and peace from their beliefs.
Many don't believe in abortion but tolerate others that do.
Your god sounds full of hate and loathing and intolerance.
I don't know what you get out of it, but it makes your frothing posts particularly unpleasant.

Grin

Well I'm finding it fascinating so speak for yourself ICBINEG Wink

Much as I enjoyed the opportunity to attempt to debate with an anti-choicer, it's a shame that this thread has descended into such levels of weirdness.

AGAIN "your god" without the dignity of a capital G? NO, NO, NO! God- the real God- is "intolerant" but only of evil, like killing the unborn. He is intolerant of false worship because it denies Him the respect He is owed. He is intolerant of sexual immorality because it dishonours the bodies He made.

"anti-choicer" again! It amazes me how many so-called tolerant people cannot accept using terms like God [capitalised and not preceded by any stupid pronouns], pro-life, pro-family, traditional marriage... even if they don't believe in those concepts they can respect those who do by using respectful terms.

Come on LeBFG, show some respect to the woman who thinks that other women's lives are disposable and less important than the life of a foetus Hmm

extro what is factually wrong about describing you as "anti-choice"?

LFG is correct, this is about a woman who lost her life do to someone else's religous beliefs!
Lets stick to the subject at hand shall we, instead of spouting bibilical blib blob

You are an anti-choicer! You deny other women the choice to decide what happens within their own bodies. How is that anything other than anti-choice?

What exactly do women mean to you Extro? Are we just host organisms without lives and feelings and wishes of our own? And you never answered the question about my 21 year old sister, pregnant, terrified, left by her partner, adamant she doesn't want to have a baby, living in Ireland - what would you as a compassionate Christian advise her to do?
