She is the sister of judge Everard who was investigating abuse. He died in a couple of inches of water which guessing from her tweet, she doesnt believe it was an accident. The Dailymail link has the full story.

So unbelievably tragic""

This is so wrong, so so wrong.
I feel so utterly fucking depressed at being so powerless to do anything remotely useful with regards to all this.

I want to scream out loud that something vile and disgusting is at the very core of our nation. Does anyone listen????

MrsjREwing · 18/11/2012 09:51

It sounds like JH may have done a decent article in a paper today and DM has reprinted it with sensationilist headlines.

I am not complaining.

hackmum · 18/11/2012 11:45

John, which newspaper is your article in?

One of the things that's bothering me is the poor coverage this issue is now getting. The whole issue of why Savile was allowed keys to Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville etc seems to have been forgotten. Rod Liddle in today's Sunday Times rightly argues that the papers should be investigating why Cyril Smith was allowed access to boys' homes where he sexually abused young boys (to which one response is, Well, you're the journalist...)

These are huge stories, yet they've been dropped while the newspapers hammer away at the Newsnight story. The Observer has no coverage at all about the child abuse scandal today (its coverage of Savile has generally been poor anyway). What's happening? Why is no-one apparently pursuing these stories?

AnyaKnowIt · 18/11/2012 12:33

Bunglie, glad to hear you are ok Smile

Attention from the media for issues tends to go in phases. There are things bubbling under at the moment which may come to the surface.

member · 18/11/2012 13:22

I also think that with a second Jimmy Saville exposure due to air on Wednesday that emphasis may return to his links.

hackmum · 18/11/2012 14:38

Hope you're right, John and member. It's possible that people are doing work on this that just isn't ready to be published yet.

Xenia · 18/11/2012 15:00

It just depends what people are keen to read and the current favourite topic. I think most people are hoping there will not be more press regulation.

LoopsInHoops · 18/11/2012 15:06

What's the Wednesday item?

Lockedout434 · 18/11/2012 15:17

Lockedout434 · 18/11/2012 16:06

I have been musing over the newsnight fiasco and how it went all to cock. Also liz gibbons acting editor may be been hung out to dry so to speak.

m.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/yes-the-bbc-got-it-wrong-but-its-journalism-is-as-robust-as-ever-20121113-29aic.html
This the bit that sums it up.
Something is still niggling at me though

Between the cost cutting and the lamentable management structure I'm surprised there haven't been mistakes of this magnitude earlier. The Newsnight acting editor who was at the helm for the McAlpine fiasco was under tremendous pressure. Her boss had been stood aside pending the investigation into his shelving of the Jimmy Savile story. Her co-deputy had just left for another broadcaster. Suddenly she was alone during one of the rockiest periods facing the program. I note that replacements have been found immediately for all the management class who have been stood aside over the past week, but who was sent in to help Liz Gibbons when she went from a management team of three to one? No one. That, sadly, is typical BBC.

edam · 18/11/2012 17:06

interesting article, Lockedout. It also seems Newsnight had no investigations editor when the report went out. I can see how the holes in the swiss cheese lined up but I can't see how it was legalled - which apparently it was.

Lockedout434 · 18/11/2012 21:48

Ooooohhhh exposure add was on itv for Wednesday. I so hope it's a good investigation. I hope it pulls all the threads together. Jersey, Wales, islington northern ireland and the rest
