Bunglie - that's just horrific.it is bizarre how people can do that .
I have no answers, I haven't got enough information to put an informed view. I have to put my trust in the professionals.

swallowedAfly · 15/11/2012 08:10

that 'not in the public interest' to prosecute/further investigate line now makes me instantly cross. what a handy whitewash phrase that seems to have been rolled out every time it was someone powerful or connected.

it bloody well is the public's interest to have child abusers and rapists prosecuted and put behind bars. it may not be in the establishments interests which i guess that is what that phrase really means but it is definitely in the interests of all the future victims that will be abused because you chose not to pursue a high profile case.

sorry for that slight rant - just sick of reading that phrase as the 'non' explanation for why people with dossiers full of allegations and evidence weren't prosecuted.

So the Duncroft girls asked for no money and the millionaire McAlpine has asked for licence fee payers money, when the BBC didn't even name him Hmm

OP posts:
Xenia · 15/11/2012 08:57

MrAlpine's lawyers are asking those who defamed him to apologise and settle. It is not a novel thing that those who are defamed gain damages. It is the only way to control those who tell lies about others.

goralka · 15/11/2012 09:16

well that's weird because that 'lie' has been in the public domain since 1998 when Icke published it in his book 'The Biggest Secret' - I wonder why he didn't jump out of his pram then?

Jins · 15/11/2012 09:22

Probably wants to avoid too much speculation during the new Inquiry.

He doesn't sound like he's a well man.

MrsjREwing · 15/11/2012 09:30

He wasn't named by the BBC, he has had a public apology, by all means get apologies, why take licence fee payers money if you are a millionaire?

OP posts:
goralka · 15/11/2012 09:31

the very rich have no scruples that is why they are rich.
we should all just stop paying, really.

Ladyjaxo · 15/11/2012 09:36

But why is the BBC settling? As far as I recall his name was never mentioned by newsnight. Very odd , I wonder what their lawyers are up to.

Jins · 15/11/2012 09:38

I'm not convinced that his denial has changed everyone's mind anyway. The fear of forking out vast sums of money will stop them printing what they believe if it doesn't stop them thinking it.

MrsjREwing · 15/11/2012 09:39

I just read a DM article where he is going to sue everyone on Twitter who named him. I would imagine half the people who named him will be under 21 and have no money to give him. By all means get apologies frim them all, that's the least they should do. For an ill man he is using up a lot of energy to gain money, which he doesn't need if he is a millionaire as reported.

OP posts:
swallowedAfly · 15/11/2012 09:43

mind you if you scare enough people you can be sure you'll be left well alone and no one will dare print any skeletons you do have in your closet.

MrsjREwing · 15/11/2012 09:46

Apparently they have had a list of every tweet naming him via a specialist firm.

OP posts:
swallowedAfly · 15/11/2012 09:47

how utterly ridiculous. my sympathies have passed.

Jins · 15/11/2012 09:50

If you are innocent and being named in public for being involved with something like this then you'd do everything you could to stop it. I can't imagine being in his position, it would be hideous.

Trial by twitter leads to people having to make decisions that they wouldn't do if a properly run Inquiry was able to clear them. How do you fight gossip?

I'm surprised that others named on twitter haven't done the same thing

Tipsandshoots · 15/11/2012 09:51

Well he didn't actually make his money it was his grandfather who made the money and he lived off his largesse .
He lost most of his money in Australia I think. He built an ideal town on the coast and then the recession hit. He also bought loads of rothko and sold them for a song. One went for $72m a couple of days ago.
God that would piss on my chips, if I had done that.

So what is behind getting £200 pounds, the whole assets of an out of work 18yo? Apology I get, money in his position, I don't get.

OP posts:
MrsjREwing · 15/11/2012 09:56

Who told you that? That is a police matter!

I agree with Jins.

The glee with which people are bandying the names of people around is awful. It's just being treated like salacious gossip.
I would use any means I could to make people think twice before assuming that tweeting ill founded rumours was a sensible was to pass the time.

I will be perfectly content for him to make the likes of Sally Bercow and Philip Schofield sweat after their posturing.

In any event the desperation amongst some to persist with the idea that it was him is unpleasant. And shows an ironic contempt for Steven Messham who has said it was not him and apologised.

swallowedAfly · 15/11/2012 10:04

bunglie is it ok for you to be discussing this stuff on here? are your allegations not part of a criminal investigation now? also i do hope you are protecting yourself because it is quite easy to identify you for some - there have been links to blogs of other women who attended the school and from there links to friendsreunited groups and stuff that make it possible to trace people. i am not criticising just felt it would be wrong for me to not voice my concerns. there seems to be some pretty heated/malicious/god knows stuff out there with ex students of your school and i just feel cautious for you.

MrsjREwing · 15/11/2012 10:10

I watched a programme which claimed DM had the most claims of false news reports and paid out the most in litigation. I think you should sue DM actually, and so should Steve, they twisted facts.
