can this not be classed as child abuse?

I am sad to say that I really can speak from experience here. Not as a young mother, I'm nearly 40, but as someone who is in the middle of taking legal action against a health authority.

I am dropping the action (shh! Don't tell them, will you?!) as I am now pregnant, and my only reason for sueing (sp?) them was to make sure that I would have help (IVF) to conceive again.

I am now in the position of being able, if I so wish, to continue to press for part of the claim. The part which will pay me for the 'inconvenience of carrying a further pregnancy which, except for their actions, I would not have needed to carry'.
Am I planning to continue with this claim?? NO, I am not. I am delighted and feel myself 'blessed' to be pregnant again. Carrying on with the claim would, in my opinion, be greedy.

Yes, this girl sought abortion at 6 weeks and as such tried to take responsibility for an unwanted pregnancy. But no operation is guaranteed to be successful and abortion earlier than 7-8 weeks often requires that the woman does a repeat pregnancy test 3 weeks afer the operation to make sure she is not still pregnant. Many surgeons will in fact advise against abortion earlier that 7 weeks for exactly this reason.

I'm trying hard not to be judgemental here but I'm finding it very difficult in her case.

bubble, congratulations!!!!!! hope it's a really healthy pregnancy...and at least no stressful 'case' to pursue, you can just relax into it - hopefully!

I also hate the view that young mums are all naive. I had DS at 18, yes I was young, but fully responible for my action of having sex. My DS was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy when i was 21, still very young, but responible enough to know that this was my life and I was now responible for my son's extra care. DD1 came along soon after and she also has CP. DD2 was a surprise baby, and yes I cried my eyes out when I realised I was pregnant again at 22, I couldn't believe I was going to have 3 children, when I went to the GP, he asked me if I wanted to continue with the pregnancy (he knew my history) I don't agree with abortion myself, (but if its right for someone else, then fine in my eyes) so did continue with the pregnancy, at 31 weeks I discussed adoption with DH, because I really didn't think that I could have handle another baby, but fell in love with her straight away.
Yes I was young when I had my kids, and yes my life took a horrible twist when ds and dd1 was dignosed with CP, but I am to blame for that, as I had SEX, but I wouldn't change that now, and I would never let DD2 that I didn't want her all through my pregnancy, even if I did stand to get £250,000 its not worth the heartache.

Sparkly, you're exactly the sort of person I meant in my earlier post, who just gets on with life and actually takes responsibility for their own life... I take my hat off to you, you're amazing!! wow....

I'd just like to say that until I read this thread on Monday night I had no idea that this girl was suing Tayside Health board.

I live in Perth and since reading this thread on Monday night I have come across one small article, with no photo's in it, in one of our local papers. The other Local paper has had no coverage of this story at all, so far anyway.

So, although her photo was splashed across the BBC website, which I agree is very sad for the little girl involved, there have been no photo's in our local papers.

That's interesting amberleigh - here's hoping the local papers continue to avoid publicising the story.

bubble - hijack - many congratulations!!
