I am sad to say that I really can speak from experience here. Not as a young mother, I'm nearly 40, but as someone who is in the middle of taking legal action against a health authority.
I am dropping the action (shh! Don't tell them, will you?!) as I am now pregnant, and my only reason for sueing (sp?) them was to make sure that I would have help (IVF) to conceive again.
I am now in the position of being able, if I so wish, to continue to press for part of the claim. The part which will pay me for the 'inconvenience of carrying a further pregnancy which, except for their actions, I would not have needed to carry'.
Am I planning to continue with this claim?? NO, I am not. I am delighted and feel myself 'blessed' to be pregnant again. Carrying on with the claim would, in my opinion, be greedy.
Yes, this girl sought abortion at 6 weeks and as such tried to take responsibility for an unwanted pregnancy. But no operation is guaranteed to be successful and abortion earlier than 7-8 weeks often requires that the woman does a repeat pregnancy test 3 weeks afer the operation to make sure she is not still pregnant. Many surgeons will in fact advise against abortion earlier that 7 weeks for exactly this reason.
I'm trying hard not to be judgemental here but I'm finding it very difficult in her case.
