The nation boos at the Tory scum:

OP posts:
squoosh · 04/09/2012 14:45

It was bloody marvellous. Great to live in a free society when people are free to make their discontent known.

timmytoes · 04/09/2012 14:49

Am i the only one who thinks its rude to boo . What sort of example does that set our children - its right to be rude if you disagree ?

simpson · 04/09/2012 14:52

It was hysterical (I was there!!)

He looked very embarrassed/sheepish.

squoosh · 04/09/2012 14:55

Timmytoes maybe you should think about raising your kids in North Korea if you think it's 'rude' for an inept government to be taken to task by those they victimise.

LadyBeagleEyes · 04/09/2012 14:55

So many wonderful, memorable Olympic and Parlympic moments, and GO being booed is way up there with them Grin.
Willsanta have you been booed by a large crowd then. Why?

Empusa · 04/09/2012 14:55

"What sort of example does that set our children - its right to be rude if you disagree ?"

How about it's right to make yourself heard when some arsehole removes support from the vulnerable in society and then tries to paint himself as a supporter of those same people? I think that's a great example to set.

noddyholder · 04/09/2012 14:58

He was hardly going to be applauded

threesocksmorgan · 04/09/2012 14:59

timmytoes well as my child is one of the disabled people being hit by these people. I am sure she will be Glad that people are seeing them for what they are.
surely you bring your children up to defend the vulnerable

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 04/09/2012 15:07

Tummytoes.

Rude? To express disgust at the heinous policies against disabled people and their families?

I must be a total oik then.
I spent the whole of Saturday shouting horrible things at the EDL. How rude of me to disagree with them trying to march through my town.

MidnightinMoscow · 04/09/2012 15:11

Exactly threesock - we are very lucky. We are not at the mercy of these cuts, as we will only lost CB next year. However, the right thing to do is to make sure more children are aware that there are far more vulnerable people in our society than them, and make sure they see DH and I stand up and voice an opinion when someone acts against them.

LadyBeagleEyes · 04/09/2012 15:13

As far as I know we still live in a democracy and are allowed to show dissent to our Government.
Or should everybody have applauded and tugged their forelocks because he is of the ruling class?

Matsikula · 04/09/2012 15:24

I'm with you all on the politics, I just don't think that this was a particularly wonderful way to make a point. A stony silence of 80,000 people would have been just as eloquent.

He'd have been fair game if he had made a speech, mind you.

Empusa · 04/09/2012 15:27

"A stony silence of 80,000 people would have been just as eloquent."

That wouldn't have worked though. Not all of that 80,000 were British/knew about how inappropriate it was. So even if most stayed silent, some would have clapped politely. The booing was a way of making sure the point was made.

Nicki1979 · 04/09/2012 15:29

When will we get a PM who actually understands the working class (and the want to be working class but can't find a job). Have any of the people running our country (into the ground) ever struggled a day in their life? Have they ever had to decide which bill to pay and which will have to wait until next month as otherwise there just isn't enough money to feed their children? Anyone interested in running? You'd get my vote! Smile

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/09/2012 15:33

I am no fan of GO - but I too thought it was rude. The slow hand clap that the WI gave Mr Blair would have been more effective in my opinion.

And wasn't Gordon Brown later given a cheer Confused I mean, really?

Blu · 04/09/2012 15:38

But it wasn't an organised thing. It was a sort of collective 'oh no' groan, the spontaneous response by 80,000 individuals, who probably didn't realise it would add to an audible crowd boo.

floatingquoter · 04/09/2012 15:47

while cam stays so will osborne its friendship not politics

NurseRatched · 04/09/2012 15:51

They were too afraid to send IDS

Longtallsally · 04/09/2012 15:52

I was there too last night, and you have it exactly Blu. As he was announced he was shown on the big screen with a particularly smug smile on his face and it was such a contrast with the expressions of the athletes who had just given their all . . . . I audibly exhaled that 'oh no groan' and was a little startled and rather satisfied to find it echoed back 80,000 times.

Frontpaw · 04/09/2012 15:54

Its a shame he turned up - how did he not think he would booed? I'm sorry for the athletes that their moment turned into a political thing (although I am sure they understood how unpopular this man is).

He still had his job, I see. Can't stand the man, myself.

zamantha · 04/09/2012 15:55

I was bemused that he was booed - I thought we were all so Tory and austerity backers!

Staunch Labour supporter myself but I'm embarrassed to say I blushed for him!

DH says:

Nobody wants austerity to touch them, they like idea but not to be personally affected by it!

Quite tame protest really. In Greece , poor souls are rioting.

Don't be hood-winked Daily Mail will bring flock to heel and they will vote for Conservatives next time. [sad}

Blu · 04/09/2012 15:55

Those who say it was rude ornot the place: honestly, had I been in the stadium (I was there on Sunday when the crowd happily cheered Tessa Jowell) and GO stepped out without warning I would no more have been able to stifle a 'WTF??' or a negative expletive of some kind than I would have been able to not scream if a cockroach climbed up my leg.

If I had accepted an invite to some 'do' at which he was to give an award and I had prior warning, I would probably deploy my best skin-teeth smile and stand politely quietly.

If I was a paralympian, it would have stuck in my craw to have accepted a medal from that man, and I would have had to hiss 'if you award this to me, you must pledge to award all disabled people the same respect and honour'.

But I would hiss with a clear lip pattern so that the deaf people who saw it would put it on you tube and it would go viral.

Anyway, you can't castigate a crowd of individuals for reacting as they felt on the spur of the moment.

BollocksToKarma · 04/09/2012 15:56

Cheered me up no end.

NurseRatched · 04/09/2012 15:56

Why?

Frontpaw · 04/09/2012 16:01

I probably have done an 'aww feck' a la Father Ted.
