The abuser was a stranger and the entire attack was based on the fact she could see the MNer was ill (had an epileptic episode and spilt some water).

You think that this abuser started calling a stranger "scrounger" because she thought they were clumsy?

I'm suggesting that the abuser couldn't see the person was ill and so had assumed they were on benefits for another reason. I'm suggesting it wasn't an attack based on disability. Yes, I agree it's benefit bashing, but not disability bashing.

TotemPole · 19/05/2012 20:01

Glitterknickaz, why can't you or your OH be listed as a carer? You have a child in a wheelchair.

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:09

They are currently in receipt of middle rate care. From next year people in receipt of middle rate care cannot have carers, you have to get high rate care for that. Two of my children do qualify for high rate care but the DWP disagree.

So both me and DH will be off Carers Allowance and expected to work.

BoffinMum · 19/05/2012 20:13

I fail to see how you can be in a wheelchair or special needs buggy and not need a carer as a child. Are you supposed to propel yourself through telekinesis FFS?

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:16

Quite.
It's what's going to happen to my family though, cos of the 'scrahngers'.

An article pointing things like this out attracted abuse about me, my weight, my husband's appearance and speculation on why we'd want to have more than one disabled child.

Like it was a choice.

So yes, benefit and disability bashing.

crazynanna · 19/05/2012 20:17

I am just Shock at the official decision on Glitter's family.

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:18

It's not just us.

Anyone in receipt of middle rate care will not be able to have someone claiming carers allowance for them. Doesn't matter if you have more than one child in receipt of it, you won't get the protected carer status you now get. You'll have to work.

Although quite how fuck alone knows.

BoffinMum · 19/05/2012 20:18

Glitter, can you PM a link to that article?

FWIW I think we could have a little MN campaign on here and all help you challenge the DWP because if what you say is true, this is plain daft and I am sure there is scope to challenge it.

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:23

Well I would like to see a challenge to the decision to remove carers allowance from those caring for people on middle rate DLA, yes. I don't really want my own circs put above the parapet again. The comments on the article really were unpleasant for me, plus there were people on mumsnet cats bum mouthing me because they considered DS2's riding therapy as some kind of 'luxury' and why should he have it if their little darlings can't go riding..... (he gets practically no physio and does riding therapy on physio advice)

SerialKipper · 19/05/2012 20:34

Oh I get you, Totem.

Except, what made the abuser know/think the total stranger in a supermarket received benefits?

SerialKipper · 19/05/2012 20:35

Glitter you were extremely brave putting yourself above the parapet even once. Thanks

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:37

How about the time I was legitimately parked in a disabled bay displaying a valid badge and had my car criminally damaged for being there by someone who made it clear he didn't think I should be there?

Levels of hatred ARE going up. I've had people openly slate me because we have a new motability car, a new house. People I formerly considered friends too.

Just because you (the collective you) do not see this does not mean it's not happening.

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:37

Twice, serial. The Indie did one too Wink

BoffinMum · 19/05/2012 20:41

Glitter, if it's so bad have you considered moving areas, or is that really a non starter because of the kids' schools etc?

SerialKipper · 19/05/2012 20:43

ThanksThanks Smile

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:46

Kids are settled in school and finally we have a house where we can function as a family. We've been here a month.

To be honest I'd get this anywhere. Why should I move from an area I love?

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:48

Toynbee article, comments are, um... interesting

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 20:51

Oh and I've lost a stone and a half since that pic Blush

BoffinMum · 19/05/2012 20:58

FWIW I thought you were going to look vast in the pic but TBH I thought you just looked a bit postnatal. Well done on losing weight, anyway. Any tips? Wink Grin

Glitterknickaz · 19/05/2012 21:00

Deprivation.
Problem is when I get stressed I eat. I have a lot of stress.

carernotasaint · 19/05/2012 21:30

I tried to discuss whats going on with disability benefits etc with my parents earlier. My mother didnt want to listen (if the article was about dieting shed have been all ears) was talking to my dad about unemployment in general. Then the subject of Carole Malone came up. First my dad thought she was a politician. Then when i explained about what was said on This Morning my dad said "Well why didnt he just get a job" They totally missed the point. But my 17 year old niece didnt. She actually told my mum straight out that a lot of the propaganda on tv was untrue and that the Daily Mail is bollocks and a hate rag. Out of the mouths of babes!

Is that true Glitter - about losing carer's if caring for someone on MRC?

carernotasaint · 19/05/2012 21:57

Has anyone else seen that thread over on the Relationships board "Odd find, secret DLA allowance. Something there doesnt seem right.

OP posts:
lambethlil · 19/05/2012 22:07

Hmm at that thread op; I bet we never find out the truth. It'll just add to the general 'all claimants are undeserving' undercurrent.
