Edwina Currie reduces struggling mother to tears live on the radio by putting her debts down to living 'a very good life indeed'

Eggwina obviously did well on her back, ask John. It doesn't mean she should lecture people who have kept their knees together at work.

I can't stand that woman. Angry

Sadly there are a lot of people on MN that probably agree with her.

Consort · 17/02/2012 13:18

I just read the story. Some of the things she said were so insensitive. That poor mum. Edwina you are so obviously out of touch with reality. We should all thank our lucky stars that she's no longer in politics.

worldgonecrazy · 17/02/2012 13:18

What a vile, vile woman. She really is callousness personified.

Meglet · 17/02/2012 13:57

I saw this pop up on my twitter feed and thought it must be a mistake, but obviously not.

What a foul, ignorant excuse for a human being she is Angry. (see, I did it without swearing!)

Good on the Mail for highlighting this, but Edwina is not as bad as they are making out here. She mistakenly assumes that the woman has credit card bills etc. and needs to be declared bankrupt etc. when this isn't the case. Even if she did have credit card bills there is no reason to assume she has been leading "life to the full". Edwina is out of touch in that she doesn't seem to understand that people can struggle just to pay rent, utility bills and council tax bills etc. But Edwina is right that she needs some good advice to let her know what type of help or reductions she is entitled to.

RabidEchidna · 17/02/2012 14:17

I am so glad I am living life to the full paying the rent, council tax, gas, electric, water, food, TV license, car tax, insurance, school bus fair, Telephone bills.... hang on am I slacking? Do I need a credit card and some catalog bills before I am truly living the good life? And I only have 2 small cats, should I up grade to some dogs?

That woman is a little out of touch

Meglet · 17/02/2012 16:03

rabid put a bit of effort into it woman. You need to get a couple of Newfoundlands.

My latest credit card bills were for new work clothes and shoes, replacing old Primark stuff that weren't warm enough and didn't fit properly. I was trying to save petrol money by buying decent boots, coat and clothes to walk to work in.

Dillydaydreaming · 17/02/2012 16:10

This woman is totally out of touch with reality - end of. Silly bitch.

Lotstodo · 17/02/2012 17:07

Did anyone hear it when it was on the radio? It was heartbreaking listening to the woman cry. I heard her and I know she got very upset but the conversation could have ended with Edwina having the last word and saying that 'her good living is over now'. This brave woman came back with her reply but she was very emotional.

pointythings · 17/02/2012 20:36

Well, of course Edwina is completely right. This woman and her partner should have used her ludicrously generous wages to put by a comfortable chunk of money every month for a rainy day - I mean, pay is so brilliant in this country that people are left with acres of disposable income when all the bills are paid, aren't they?

Aaaaaaaaaargh! Angry

nancy75 · 17/02/2012 20:42

I have had the misfortune to meet edwina curry, I was working in a shop and she was one of the ruddest peole I had ever served.

SuePurblybilt · 17/02/2012 20:47

She's a nasty, narrow minded piece of work.
Is this a Nethuns survey then, the research? I wasn't sure how much they were involved, was it a whole-site thing, does anyone know?

reddaisy · 17/02/2012 21:00

She is a despicable woman. But surely going without food is preferable to sleeping with John Major?! Currie is no better than the average kiss and tell woman in the now defunct news of the screws as she sold her story via a book publisher.

Stupid, stupid woman.

usualsuspect · 17/02/2012 21:00

I can't bear to read it

jaquelinehyde · 17/02/2012 21:13

What an utter cunt she is.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 17/02/2012 21:18

My goodness.

She really doesn't have a clue does she.

Hmm
Jellykat · 17/02/2012 21:43

Talk about pig ignorant! Angry

(Anyone else notice the quote from the Nethuns Founder? They're everywhere atm)

Lilithmoon · 17/02/2012 23:21

What a fucking awful person Edmina Currie is. She should be ashamed of herself. I doubt she is though because she is so ignorant. I am horrified by her and all the other out of touch fuck ups with control in this country. Furious!

Voidka · 18/02/2012 08:03

I would love to see her live on £1000 a month.

gorionine · 18/02/2012 08:09

"Good on the Mail for highlighting this, but Edwina is not as bad as they are making out here. She mistakenly assumes that the woman has credit card bills etc. "

She was prejudiced and assumed the worst without having any clue of the real situation of that young woman and her family. It does make her bad unless at any point she said "sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick here, I can actually see that even though you are working hard you still struggle financially. Here are a few tips that might make things a bit easier for you."

Brave Lady (Haley). She is right, the tories live in another world. They can barely disguise their contempt for the poor. It feels like The age o of Cameron is going to take us back to the times when the poor were marched off to die in shame in th he work house Sad
