Edwina Currie reduces struggling mother to tears live on the radio by putting her debts down to living 'a very good life indeed'

Eggwina obviously did well on her back, ask John. It doesn't mean she should lecture people who have kept their knees together at work.

God Ryoko, if you're trying to wind people up I think you need to try a bit harder and use a bit more imagination."

You don't like my life, thats your problem, I don't care, I ain't got any debt. If you think I'm lying then you are A: an arse for accusing someone of such and B: not getting out and meeting many people from all walks, every ones different.

Edwina really sums up the smug, sad and selfish image of the Tories - tbh they could do with booting her into oblivion because she makes them look appaling.

It's the whole "well if you are poor it's your own fault" view which is hideous. Tbh I can cope with the idea of cuts, I can't cope with HOW they are justifying them in terms of blaming those who are already struggling.

I find it hard that anyone can feel this is acceptable.

I love this quotation from Mansfield Park:
'nothing amuses me more than the easy manner with which everybody settles the abundance of those who have a great deal less than themelves'.

ppeatfruit, I meant that the financial crisis was not of this government's making. But you are right that Thatcher and all successive governments contributed in some way to the lack of regulation of the markets.

resurrecting a dead thread but....

.... there is a lot of outrage on here about what Edwina Curry said, and I agree with a lot of it. But ask yourself this - rather than sitting on mumsnet chatting about it, are you going to do something to help people like this?

For example, could you throw a few pounds towards your local foodbank? People up there ^ have already mentioned these organisations. Our local one (THFoodbank) just sent out an email saying they are very short of food, and with the olympics coming up restricting local travel they need to build up supplies before the roads shut. I don't work for them or anything, just something I heard about locally that is actually helping people. I love a good moan but its even better to use your outrage to become part of the solution too.
