the saddest cuts, that will affect the most vulnerable

one example
on the news last night there was one person who will no loose her only contact with the outside world as the day centre she uses will close.
another will loose his phisio which will affect his life expectancy.
this is just one example of one council, but it is happening every where, it is a discrace and very short sighted as now more people will have to go into residential care, and that will cost so much more.

OK, yes I have heard the same thing, you can not claim for more than one disabled person in a household.

Your child on Middle rate DLA will be moved to Lower rate DLA/universal credit
You will be claiming universal credit, tax credits, benefits DLA, PIP all will be names universal credit.

Yes the DLA is being reduced. Higher rate is staying the same but they are moving the goal posts on that one. Middle rate will be lower rate, and lower rate will vanish.

googlenut · 17/02/2012 18:55

How can I find out about this? How can they reduce what you are entitled to when nothing has changed.

molepom · 17/02/2012 18:58

they do it by moving the goal posts again.

Just google welfare reform, spartacus report (that's a good one) and it's all there in black and white with real workable alternatives all being ignored by the government despite the House Of Lords being very vocal against it, and the charities, and support groups, and newspapers and the public.

googlenut · 17/02/2012 18:59

My understanding was dla was to stay a separate benefit and not be part of universal credit. So if I'm not claiming any other benefit it will be unaffected?

KalSkirata · 17/02/2012 19:00

One disabled person per family? Shock

molepom · 17/02/2012 19:01

Read the Spartacus report for yourself and see.

2old2beamum · 17/02/2012 19:08

What the fuck does the family do who have triplets who are disabled shove 2 back. I know many families like ours who have adopted 4 or 5 or 6 we are going to be stuffed (sorry being a bit self centered) Where is the gun?

PestoPenguin · 17/02/2012 19:16

Some people are actually going to die because of the cuts aren't they Sad. There will be suicides related to MH service cuts and there will be elderly who just fade away without anyone noticing. There will be more children going hungry. I don't even think I'm being melodramatic.

I know there are big economic problems. I don't really understand it all. But if the country needs more money, taxes should go up, especially for those who earn more.

KalSkirata · 17/02/2012 19:16

I cant find the direct link (cos I am inept)

googlenut · 17/02/2012 19:19

There will be loads of people will give up, because they just cannot afford to be carers with these cuts. And how much will that cost.

molepom · 17/02/2012 19:30

People are already dying because of this Pesto.

31 to count that I know of. Kal pointed out yesterday of the man who had a heart attack on his way out of the building following his fit for work assessment..he didnt even make it to the buildings front door.

In the papers (will find the link if I remember), atos deemed a man in a coma fit for work as he didnt make it to his assessment despite his wife telling them he was in a coma in hospital.

The suicide and murder/suicide rate will rocket if the gov are not careful.

Sevenfold · 17/02/2012 22:06

its a sad fact of life that the majority (not all) of peeps are really only intrested in things that actually will/ possibly/affect them, that is the sad truth as i see it

but keep these threads going because people without these issues really do learn something about the problems you all face and that can only be a positive thing

i had a disabled husband (now deceased) and knew of the DLA etc rules and local services but i have learnt loads through threads like these especially about kids with SN,dare i say i have more of a understanding now and more empathy than what i had before

so please dont give up spreading information we can all learn something

though if anybody thought the tories would improve this groups lives i would be shocked

Sevenfold · 18/02/2012 11:42

you are right, yet they can get in a tizz about anything that involves babies.
the sad thing is this will affect everyone at some time, as every one will have a family member or someone they know that will become disabled at some time.

No Seven, not me sorry!

CardyMow · 18/02/2012 12:22

Googlenut - the changes to DLA are that it will be REPLACED by PIP. The Gevernment haven't announced made their decision on whether it will be included in Universal Credit, or under the UC cap - though they won't be including it right at the start - it makes provision under the Welfare Reform Bill for it to be included in UC, and therefore in the UC cap, at a later point.

They need to whip the masses into just a little bit more of a frenzy before they include it under the UC cap, in other words.

Testing the waters by making the disabled do indefinate length Workfare placements when the able-bodied don't have to do more than 8 weeks - 6 months MAXIMUM workfare placements is the start of this. If the public don't kick up too much of a fuss over THAT, then PIP (the replacement for DLA), WILL be included under the UC cap at some point in the near future.

And as for only one person in a family being disabled, or at least, only one person in a family/household being allowed to claim disability benefits, I would like everyone to tell me who I should 'choose' to be allowed to claim?

Me, with uncontrolled epilepsy? My DD who has NUMEROUS disabilities, including Autism, learning difficulties, partial deafness and more? My DS2 who has SEVERE, disabling asthma, EDS type II and Autism?

What I am worried about is that if they reach adulthood and are still unable to live independantly, if one of THEM claimed, say, ESA or DLA, would that mean that there would be some sort of a conference or something, where the DWP had to DECIDE which one out of the three of us was 'allowed' to claim the disability benefits? How would that WORK? If we ALL met the criteria (which we no longer do, since this Government changed what classes as disabled, but for argument's sake...), how would they decide WHICH of us was 'more deserving'? How would they decide which ONE of us got protected from Workfare?

And does this mean that if someone has 2/3 people in their households with disabilities severe enough to be getting disability benefits (DLA or PIP), that if they lived ALONE they would ALL be able to get disability benefits, yet when living TOGETHER only ONE can? Surely that makes a mockery of David Cameron's 'Big Society'?!

Dillydaydreaming · 18/02/2012 15:52

Bumping thread.

googlenut · 18/02/2012 16:43

Are PIPs not for people over 16? I thought they were leaving children out of the PIP scheme and keeping dla as is.

googlenut · 18/02/2012 16:46

I've been thinking about this a lot (as I'm sure you all have). The day I was awarded DLA for my ds with asd, it felt like someone was at last saying we know how difficult life is for you and your family and here is something that we as society can do to make your life just a little but easier and recognise all the extra things you have to do.
Now with nothing having changed in my life, they are taking that money away.

molepom · 18/02/2012 17:29

They are introducing a CHILD PIP in stages starting from 2013 although officially its 2015.

molepom · 18/02/2012 17:35

Google, same here. Ds's DLA has been a god send and a little but very valued recognision that, yes things are unsually hard for you, we understand of the resrictions you now have, here's some help. His DLA is paying for things that are keeping him safe, IE, installing bathroom spotlights in his bedroom, the fire retardants, replastering the walls every 6 months, the resulting decorating, the tougher toys that he needs that wont break as soon as he looks at them, new doors and locks on the windows to stop him escaping or jumping through them, the clothes he bites through, the shoes he scrapes along the ground, the activies to keep him calm and vent his fustration and energy on that and a million other things, which not only help him, but me and his sister too.

googlenut · 18/02/2012 19:23

I honestly thought they were leaving child dla unchanged.

molepom · 18/02/2012 19:34

Nope.
