As far as I can gather it's the normal benefits ie housing/ cb and wtc. This seems like a large sum. Is it accross the board or does it include disability related benefits? Are the figures misleading?

humancatapult. I don't think DLA will every be enough to pay for Jonny depp... Not saying you don't deserve him tho :)

I don't think you can dictate to anyone what they spend their money on. If they are entitled to it then they should use it anyway to make their life better. Unless you have a child with a disability I think it is hard to understand the day to day. I don't but I can empathise and imagine it is very tough.

sevenfold - I might have known I would get a response like that.

I am very sorry but you have NO idea of our family history and I'm not about to go into it. Not every mother of a child with SN is as caring as you lot and I very sorry for any offence that I may have caused, but my sister is abusive and that's all you need to know.

As for helping her, again you have no idea how much I tried to do even when my own dd was little, how much I sacrificed and I had it all thrown back in my face and worse besides. My family history is not very pleasant so please, less of the judging yourselves.

I have a brother with severe SN. He is 3 years older than me and we were very very close. He was adopted but he was MY brother and I did everything for him. I used to care for him when my mother swanned off to Canada, I took him out with my friends, I was the ONLY family member who didn't get him pissed and laugh at him. I'm now not allowed to see him.

So a lot of family shit has gone on.

I take back my comments about a cleaner. I obviously have no idea.

TheRhubarb sorry, sounds like you have tried.
I suppose I so used to my DB only ever hearing half of what I say...
example. we get help from family fund for a holiday, he then thinks all of our holiday is paid for(it isn't)
I say I am looking into a 19 plus college for dd, he then tells everyone she is going there. ffs I haven't even looked at it yet.
he is not alone in this, so sorry I made an assumption based on my life.

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 13:14

It's ok, I should have been clearer but obviously I don't want to go into great detail concerning my messed up family.
I really am on your side, I just have different views on some things but overall I'm as socialist as they come.

These days I'm a little more bitter because I see working families (mine included) struggle to pay our bills and mortgages and are left with no money at the end of the month, but some benefits claimants who oppose the cuts actually admit that they are left with money to spare but that it's not enough.

Families who have children with SN are in a different league and don't receive nearly enough help to cope, I know that. I shouldn't have used my sister as a bad example of those who cream off the state as hopefully she is in a minority and I should have realised my posts came across as cruel and judgy. If I told you how she viewed her kids, you would cry.

I'll back off now with no ill-feelings but lots of good wishes for you all.

Thanks Therhubarb I am sure you didn't mean any of it personally and you obviously have had some hard times. Like you I am very leftwing and care deeply for the less fortunate. I also believe cheats are in a very small minority. Good luck
