BREAKING NEWS: P&G win gold on the mumsnet family awards (which they sponsor)

Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

OP posts:

Okay, family friendly initiatives....

I'm a SAHM because I've got no childcare. I also can't get a place. If I could get a place, I won't be able to afford it without a job, so I would lose the place, but I can't get a job because I've got no childcare, so.......

A creche. Or guaranteed child care. But I would prefer an on-site creche which would allow me to check on DS and BF, and a company that would be happy for me to do this.

But it's never going to happen, and I live in the real world. Which is why I wait on tables and clean toilets two evenings a week, when DH can look after DS. And BTW I'm university educated and my last job was with a major bluechip, as that seemed to be relevant earlier on. Hmm

funnypeculiar · 03/11/2011 23:07

Brilliant, just brilliant.

EverybodysScaryEyed · 03/11/2011 23:07

These awards didn't seem to have a very big pool of entrants either.

there are plenty of workplace surveys out there (often using anon employee questionnaires - i think the times do one) that are far more useful

i think mnhq wanted a jolly with their friends

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:08

MTG, you ought to go on Mastermind, you would be ace with P & G as your specialist subject Grin

I doubt many of its employees would know so much about their company... oh.. hang on...

"You can buy P&G products because they are genuinely superior and 'added value'. That has always been a company value, alongside giving back to the community, that has been there since 1837 - long before cynical commercialism."

Damn that cynical commercialism. DAMN IT TO BLOODY HELL.

Do you know what really is the sand in my vagina with this sort of shit?

It's the complete underestimation of my intelligence.

It's like one of Gabby's old threads, where you knew that the thread Gabby was somehow reading bore no resemblance to the one the rest of us were on...

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 23:09

Does anyone else on this thread know as much about the company they work for as MTG? Maybe she is telling the truth and has some kind of OCD stalkerish fascination with P&G.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 03/11/2011 23:09

MTG ive got to get to bed, it's late. Could you please cut to the chase and explain how you know these policies to be true? A straightforward question, you will agree.

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 23:09

Shenanigins, how about the fact that women are the majority in most management positions in P&G Uk - section head, associate director, director etc. It is a very female heavy company in the UK.

architien · 03/11/2011 23:10

My dad just retired from P&G this month after a very long career with them. I have to say that they were wonderful when we were growing up. They had a policy of giving each family tickets to fun fairs, shows, firework displays, huge discounted stuff etc. All things that to my knowledge have continued to be policy. They were extremely understanding when my mum died even when he nearly lost it himself behaving very erratically. They helped him out, they gave him counseling, they assured he had enough support and he went back part time slowly. As a child I felt like there was a feeling of support from them for our family. Years later they continued to be generous with his time off. I'm not a great fan of disposable nappies (use reusables) but I am very grateful that they had such family friendly policies. I'm sure that without it our family wouldn't be the same today.

uniCorny · 03/11/2011 23:10

Tell us some interesting p&g facts. Who copped off with who at the last xmas do?

BillComptonstrousers · 03/11/2011 23:11

check out wikipedia.... Or the your company handbook?

stripeybumpinthenight · 03/11/2011 23:11

Shock at this thread!

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 23:12

Back to marketing school for you mindthegappp.

Off you go - no, no they won't hate you for making a total dick of yourself in the internet...we've all been there...off you go - make sure you listen carefully to the bits about gauging your audience...love you...

LauraIngallsWilder · 03/11/2011 23:12

But why do you know?
And why do you care?
And why are you so obsessive about defending them?

Its bizarre and not making P&G look good at all
As well as making you seem very odd

thisisyesterday · 03/11/2011 23:12

Bob McDonald? is that you?

louby86 · 03/11/2011 23:13

Having women in senior management positions means nothing, see my earlier post. There are many women in high level jobs where I work, including the board of directors and that hasn't helped or changed what I've had to deal with

oldgreengrasshopper · 03/11/2011 23:13

The thing is, many of the 'family friendly policies' you listed in your earlier post MTG are either legal requirements or not particularly unusual for large blue chips. The important bit is how those policies are actually interpreted throughout the organisation. I used to work for a blue-chip organisation that prided itself on having many of the policies on your list - but it didn't help me in the slightest when i wanted to return to work in a more flexible, part-time manner!! The real measure of how family friendly an organisation is comes from those who work there and experience it.

Mum1369 · 03/11/2011 23:13

If you're the PR for P&G I would put in a days leave tommorow, if you're PR for the competition, enjoy your bonus

BaronessBomburst · 03/11/2011 23:13
louby86 · 03/11/2011 23:14

My point exactly oldgreengrasshopper

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 23:15

Why is it important to know why I know so much about P&G. Everyone in local government in Elmbridge and Runnymede has a deep knowledge of P&G (and know how to get community money out of them). Residents of said boroughs know that they are an ace employer.

Why so cynical, folks? I'd hate to live your lives, always thinking the worst of people.

And why can't you debate the facts, for the millionth time of asking?

BillComptonstrousers · 03/11/2011 23:15

God have they drafted someone else in now with a 'true story'
