BREAKING NEWS: P&G win gold on the mumsnet family awards (which they sponsor)

Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

What does that P&G promotion have to do with families of athletes?

MindtheGappp · 11/11/2011 17:22

They are receiving free tickets to the Olympics as well as personal relaxation areas, courtesy of P&G.

As a major sponsor of the Games, P&G has a large ticket allocation which they are giving to families of athletes rather than their own employees.

RosalindFranklinsNobelPrize · 11/11/2011 17:26

Mindthegapp you are such a wind up merchant!

MindtheGappp · 11/11/2011 17:36

How so?

HerdOfTinyElephants · 11/11/2011 17:38

But the promotion iloveberries linked to was about collecting receipts for P&G products and sending them in for a chance to win tickets. P&G may also be giving tickets to families of athletes, but they didn't mention it on that link.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 11/11/2011 17:41

May be and indeed are but that's still distinct from the buy-our-products-and-be-in-with-a-chance-of-winning-tickets promotion.

MindtheGappp · 11/11/2011 17:41

I don't see what is wrong with that either. P&G has tickets - the public wants them.

It sounds like any other prize draw.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 11/11/2011 17:43

I don't see anything wrong with it. I just wondered why you were on about families of athletes.

RosalindFranklinsNobelPrize · 11/11/2011 17:53

Shame about the athletes dads.

MindtheGappp · 11/11/2011 17:55

It's called the 'Nearest and Dearest' campaign.

Whether giving tickets to athlete families, or to the general public, surely the beneficiaries are the recipients! You can read into this whatever motivations you like, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what your thoughts are to those who get to see the Games in person.

ssd · 12/11/2011 19:15

but end of the day, it doesn't really matter what you say MTG, you have convinced no one that you don't work for P&G

anytime someone posts anything negative about P&G, up you pop with your in depth information to convince us otherwise

I hope you're getting overtime!

MindtheGappp · 12/11/2011 19:48

Irrelevent

MMMarmite · 12/11/2011 20:40

What an entertaining thread - either MTG is a very ineffective marketing person for P&G, or a somewhat more effective one for their competitors.

Am a bit Hmm that everyone who entered won at least a bronze award. It seems highly misleading - I'd expect that a bronze award from mumsnet meant they are one of the better companies in the competition, rather than the worst of those who entered. Presumably they can now use this misleading 'achievement' to boast about how good their company is.

Prizes for everyone is great for school sports day but not really appropriate here!

Your intentions sound really good Vicki, I hope you can use this thread to improve the awards for next year.

MindtheGappp · 12/11/2011 20:54

You get your reward in full, mmm

ssd · 12/11/2011 23:33

Irrelevent, MTG

Feenie · 12/11/2011 23:44

You might want to know, ssd, but believe me, you don't need to know

You see, ssd - if she told you, she'd have to kill you. Grin

Feenie · 12/11/2011 23:46

Oh and it's 'irrelevAnt', mtg.

Here's hoping you don't teach spelling, then Grin

ssd · 12/11/2011 23:59

feenie, she doesn't have to bother killing me, she's making me loose the will to live with her "answers avoidance" tactics

guess I'll get another "Irrelevent" now

iloveberries · 13/11/2011 07:43

feenie - HAHA!!!!

/shrug

You are not giving me a compelling reason to satisfy your curiosity. Curiosity alone is not enough.

I am curious myself, though, as to why P&G is being a baddie for giving away their allocation of Olympic tickests to the general public and families of athletes.

DogStinkhorn · 13/11/2011 13:12

So bored of this thread now, we are just going over the same old shit.
Mumsnet, P & G and Mindthegappp have all lost credibility over this.

MindtheGappp · 13/11/2011 13:15

What a strange conclusion to draw!

Deux · 13/11/2011 14:12

I worked for a blue chip mega-corp and we competed with P & G in some markets. Boy, did P & G have a poor reputation within the industry.

Even the buyers used to talk about how weird they were and how they were like automatons and they had no authority to make decisions, always having to refer it back.

I once bumped into my counterpart at P & G, introduced myself and he ran away muttering about how he wasn't allowed to talk to me. He was like a rabbit in the headlights. It was really strange.

Of course it became a game then and we all tried to see if we could make any conversation with anyone in P & G, as did all the other companies in our markets. P & G were horribly derided, in general.

Must say we were all on very chummy terms with our other competitors.

MTG sounds like she is an over enthusiastic Corporate Relations/PR type person. Her knowledge (and language/vocab when referring to brands) is impressive for a teacher. I'd find it impossible to impart that knowledge and I used to work in the industry. Remarkable.

Smile
MindtheGappp · 13/11/2011 14:25

Sounds like jealousy, Deux :)

So if someone is working to a SOP, they are an automaton? Perhaps that is why they are working on a billion dollar brand? They system obviously works for them.

Deux · 13/11/2011 14:32

Arf at jealous. You are definitely a P & G bod as that's what they used to say. The limited interactions we had with them were on the same juvenile level.

We weren't jealous of people and a corporation who were derided within the industry, at all. In fact we felt (and were) quite superior and arrogant. Smile

FWIW, the company I worked for trumped P & G, quite considerably.
