Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

OP posts:

"Errrr, right MTG, you ARE objective.
But I think you're mistaking the word objective for the word obsessive or maybe paid?"

hahahahahahahhahahahha

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 23:00

yesterday, the irony is that those who are negative actually have nothing to say and I, who is positive about this family friendly story, gives concrete info.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/11/2011 23:00

Oh - thanks, BoF - I had no clue who P&G were either!

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 23:01

If I worked for P&G HR I'd be worried how some loon a teacher on the interweb knows intimate details of their policies. Hmm

uniCorny · 03/11/2011 23:02

oil of olay gave me hives

PatriciaHolm · 03/11/2011 23:02

Thing is, P&G take their social media strategy REALLY seriously. They spend millions, and have strategies for all the different media, for pretty much all the products; I've been in the meetings! Can't imagine they'd be too pleased with this thread......!

If only I was getting paid.

Are people really so naive? Seriously?

EverybodysScaryEyed · 03/11/2011 23:03

Think I'll be trying Huggies in future

PatriciaHolm · 03/11/2011 23:03

MTG - did you actually read my earlier post? Where I gave actual real instances of things that had happened at P&G that were not, in any way, family friendly?

thisisyesterday · 03/11/2011 23:03

you don't give concrete info because you don't work for them so you have NO idea if it's true.

do you.

cos you're a teacher remember.

bruxeur · 03/11/2011 23:03

Oil of Olay gave me leprosy and the bad AIDs.

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 23:03

I work for a blue chip company and couldn't quote their policies verbatum at 11pm on an Thursday night!

I think you deserve my first ever Biscuit

BillComptonstrousers · 03/11/2011 23:04

How do we know it's concrete info if you haven't worked there?

uniCorny · 03/11/2011 23:04

why did they change it from ulay to olay anyway?

CaptainNancy · 03/11/2011 23:04

sorry mindthegapp- did you have something specific on mind when you say 'P&G are superior'?

superior in what aspect please? Do you mean in terms of products, market share, HR policies? I'm not sure what it is you're referring to, sorry.

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 23:04

What's the problem, Shirley? Why is this about me? What about the parent friendly award?

thisisyesterday · 03/11/2011 23:04

and i'd also like to add that "take your child to work day" is so NOT family friendly lol

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 23:05

Pampers gave my baby herpes

uniCorny · 03/11/2011 23:05

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:05

Are people really so naive? Seriously?

Just you it would seem, to think that we would all fall for your unbiased and objective views on a company that you have no links to... Wink

Shenanagins · 03/11/2011 23:05

I would take such awards with a large pinch of salt as it is very difficult to actually determine what the reality is in most organisations. It is very easy for them to list (and proclaim very loudly) all of their family friendly policies. However, what is less tangible but far more important is the culture within an organisation. An organisation may have "family friendly" policies, but the reality is that you are expected to work late at the drop of a hat, etc.

More telling and something you will be very unlikely to obtain information on for a specific company, is the treatment of female workers in terms of pay increases and bonus awards - this is much more indicitive of the actual culture/expectations. National statistics show that in the private sector, part-time female employees receive a lower pay increase and bonus award than their full-time counterparts, part-time workers are predominantly female with family. One of the many conclusions that come from such a statistic is that companies pay for "bums on seats" with can be in conflict with "family friendly" policies.

LeBOF · 03/11/2011 23:06

Naive about what? Have you never heard of big companies paying for Internet "word of mouth"?

Although I still think my theory is better. What made you leave in the end? Were they very mean? You don't have to answer directly- be oblique if you had to sign something.

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 23:06

Olay was the original name, from its origin in South Africa. Ulay was a variation of the Richardson Vicks company. Check out Wikipedia.

LeBOF · 03/11/2011 23:07

What is this concrete info? Do they put it in their face masks?
