BREAKING NEWS: P&G win gold on the mumsnet family awards (which they sponsor)

Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

OP posts:

What a bizarre thread. If Mindthegap is a P&G employee, or paid to promote them in any way, they are doing a very bad job.

I was a client of P&G's in a previous job. No idea what they are like to work for but one of the most bizarre experiences of my life was being shown round the Pampers R&D lab in Germany. Parents get free nappies if they enrol their children for product testing. It's like a production line, only with children - the kids appeared to be enjoying themselves but it was all very strange.

To test the capacity of the nappies they 'load' them with liquid, then the kids wear them until they get so full they have to be taken off (or drop off). Maybe that's OK for babies who are unaware but for the toddlers and older ones, standing on a bench while someone stuck a hosepipe down their pants... I do wonder whether all the money their parents are saving on nappies is just deferred spending that crops up under the budget heading 'psychotherapy' years later!

Having said that, when I was around Pampers had this focus on 'seeing the world through a baby's eyes' which they took very seriously and it was fascinating to learn about it and see it in action. No idea whether this actually translates into better nappies - I think I bought Pampers when ds was tiny (brand loyalty happens even if you've never bought a product before) but then wised up and realised I didn't have to buy the most expensive product on the market in order to throw it into a bin...

Out of interest, Mindthegapp, what subject do you teach?

DunderMifflin · 03/11/2011 22:30

Physics and Geography, natch.

Mindthegapp - can't you see why people are curious though? You do have a bucketload of info. And if it's not down to you, it must be someone close to you, in which case you might have a biased view, which is why people want to know, do you see?

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 22:32

Another spurious report. Let's hear from people who are/were employees of P&G in the UK - instead of wannabes.

Again, I am neither an employee or agent of P&G. I am speaking as an objective individual.

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 22:32

Jesus WEPT edam.

mindthegappp - you're latest ploy of pretending to be pissed is risible.

Holy shit - this is thread is like an exercise in bad PR...

I remember one similar to this recently actually, I think it was Talk Talk

I'm starting to wonder if everything is a bluff, then double bluff, then triple bluff...

ShirleyKnot · 03/11/2011 22:33

*your GAH!

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 22:34

What does my teaching experience have to do with this?

LauraIngallsWilder · 03/11/2011 22:34

Im guessing 'we' dont want to debate the facts Mind because 'we' dont know them (and tbh Im not interested, like I said earlier I wouldnt work for P&G for ethical reasons)

Trying to find out why you know so much and care so much about a company you claim to have no connection with is far more interesting!!

It is impossible for us to be objective when your posts make you sound like a P&G spin doctor.

Greythorne · 03/11/2011 22:34

"I find it amusing when people knock companies who spend billions in research using real chemists, biochemists etc.....I will reiterate that only companies that have vast reseach teams are the ones that are producing effective products...Those are companies with substantial presence in the middle priced mass market sector...."

Pop quiz:
Which teacher posted the above on another thread about skincare?
Which big company is a major player in the middle priced mass market skincare sector?

MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 22:35

Shirley, do you have anything to contribute to this thread?

GsyGacheFiend · 03/11/2011 22:35

The facts are that you are evangalical about P+G, and if you don't work for them why have you spent the last 3 hours ignoring questions about your own experience with the company and attacking anyone who deigns to disagree with you.

Nevermind a teacher, you should be a politican.

josephinebonaparte · 03/11/2011 22:35

This is looking better and better

Mum1369 · 03/11/2011 22:37

Greythorne gets the award for the most amusing post though

BaronessBomburst · 03/11/2011 22:37

Is this headed for Classics, I wonder.......?? Grin

happymole · 03/11/2011 22:38
MindtheGappp · 03/11/2011 22:38

I am quite flattered that others are so flattered by my responses.

But I truly wish that their energies would be targeted at the key points of the thread.

If you are so disgusted by the P&G culture, how about just listing the parent friendly initiatives of the ideal company?

Greythorne · 03/11/2011 22:38

There are going to be some very pissed off marketing directors in Weybridge in the morning.

DunderMifflin · 03/11/2011 22:39

MTG you're confusing our bemusement with flattery

Mum1369 · 03/11/2011 22:40

Nah, surely mindthep&g has got to be the PR for one of their competitors? Now that would be clever

DunderMifflin · 03/11/2011 22:41

The parent friendly initiatives you listed were great we're just not sure how uniformly they are implemented across the company

EverybodysScaryEyed · 03/11/2011 22:42

The thing is MTG - I work for a company that offers all of those things. From the outside they look great.

But when you work there you know all the things they do to make it that much harder. also, a lot of the things listed are legal requirements.

That's why people want to know your link. If all you've done is googled and found this then it's pretty worthless to debate it with you. First hand experiences of current employees are really the only interesting facts in this thread.

DunderMifflin · 03/11/2011 22:42

Haha - a coup for Johnson and Johnson - good idea Mum1369!

gomez · 03/11/2011 22:44

Mmmm so mindthegapp. Do you have a partner? Are they per chance quite senior in P&G?

A company who I haven't given a second thought about until wetting myself reading this thread Smile
