BREAKING NEWS: P&G win gold on the mumsnet family awards (which they sponsor)

Anyone else a bit cynical about this and think that P&G have basically 'bought' the award. My best friend and husband used to work there (how i met him) and I can guarantee they are anything BUT family friendly to work for!!!

Employees not employers soz

JustineMumsnet · 04/11/2011 10:59

@Vickimumsnet

Was serious by the way KatieMiddleton please come and see us!

But we want her!

ColdSancerre · 04/11/2011 11:00

We'll have to raffle Katie off to the highest bidder.

KatieMiddIeton · 04/11/2011 11:00

Hurrah! Will be in touch.

WhollyGhost · 04/11/2011 11:00

Thanks Vicki - can I ask, how did you select the staff members who took part in your confidential survey? Were you able to ensure their anonymity, and was there a decent response rate?

Mouseface · 04/11/2011 11:01
Grin
KatieMiddIeton · 04/11/2011 11:03

I may have a little survey for you lot. But it is a boring one proper grown up one. Just sorting it out now.

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:03

Interesting question on selection - the surveys were sent as a link and were open to all staff. It was apparent (not that it was easy to check so bit of guess work) that in some instances they hadn't reached as far across the company as we would have liked. Some members it was difficult for because not all staff were infront of computers so we also sent out hard copy surveys but inevitably those have low return rates. I would say that some companies really encouraged returns to the staff survey and some could have done more. Next year (cos this was year 1 and we want to make the process better next year) we're going to look again at how we get more staff input. We'd like to see companies being able to feedback confidentially not always brokered through their line manager more easily and regularly.

josephinebonaparte · 04/11/2011 11:04

Did the companies have to pay anything to be assessed for the awards?

ssd · 04/11/2011 11:04

Justine, your attempts at humour might backfire, but I am still Shock at your use of bollocks

EverybodysScaryEyed · 04/11/2011 11:05

Ok - well i see your site is under construction really (i only found it when i googled parent focus)

I would be interested in the sample size of the staff surveys/how the participants were selected etc

I understand the customer side was done my MNers

I still think it would have been useful to separate the staff from the customers. An organisation who won gold for staff may have only won bronze for customer

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:05

SOrry, realised I missed a bit of that question. We had mixed return rates - some really good and some pretty low. Anonymity was guaranteed. No way for managers to find out who said what.

EverybodysScaryEyed · 04/11/2011 11:07

xpost

so the respondents were effectively self selecting and it wasn't anonymous?

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:09

I get into trouble for my site at Mumsnet .... we are really back room boys and I only learnt how to tweet on the night of the awards. Tragic really. I feel ashamed whenever I come into MNHQ because my site is so rubbish.

The staff were separate to the customers - we did a staff survey and mumsnet testing. We'll definitely look again at the process - started yesterday with the insight team at MNHQ to see how we can make it as robust as possible. But we still have to balance that with the fact that it's easier to influence a company once you're working with them so we have to get them into the programme first.

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:11

it was anonymous and yes, they self selected. We knew their job title but that was it.

I think going forward we will ask for a sample of staff across all grades (for want of a nicer way to say that we don't just want people who work in their marketing department and want a badge!) Not that we got that - but you get my point :)

KatieMiddIeton · 04/11/2011 11:12

I can tweet! And I've taught myself some HTML recently because it needed doing

WhollyGhost · 04/11/2011 11:13

Thanks for answering, did you have some minimal number of staff responses before a company could be included?

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:13

HTML is just plain scary.

EverybodysScaryEyed · 04/11/2011 11:13

so are you linked to MNHQ other than through these awards?

sorry to be picky but do you have statisticians etc on board or are you more policy advisors?

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:14

No we didn't WhollyGhost and I think next year we absolutely will. Or a % of staff numbers.

Vickimumsnet · 04/11/2011 11:17

No not linked to MNHQ other than through these awards. We have done previous projects with them because sometimes our work needs Mumsnet input and sometimes they do stuff with us but we're independent.

We're more policy advisors, but the person who did the analysis of the data is a proper researcher. And I've worked on family policy since mother was a duck. Sorry, showing my northern roots there.

Ponders · 04/11/2011 11:19

just noticed this on Matalan's spiel

'Our employees are key to all this, as they too become parents once they have their little ones.'

No shit, Sherlock Grin

WallowedInFlies · 04/11/2011 11:19

large chunk of my life has just gone on reading this thread. utterly bizarre but glad to see kate has probably got a job out of it Smile

MTG' posting on this thread is as dubious as it gets though - don't care how long she's been posting for. has occurred to me that maybe a blue chip company would like to pay me to support them on MN??? will be watching my inbox.

531800000008 · 04/11/2011 11:20

hahahahah at Matalan

WallowedInFlies · 04/11/2011 11:21

if mtg is the usual standard then i think i could do a cracking job.

any takers?

come on! i want to get a job out of this too! we'll all have a company each - i'll take johnson and johnson.
