Her appeal is being heard at the moment, and there is a good chance she'll be freed.
So who did kill Meredith?
If she and her ex boyfriend are deemed innocent, I hope the Italian police will continue to look into the case and get some justice for her.
I don't understand why they say the DNA is flawed, or have Knox's parents just managed to hire some very smart lawyers?
It's such a sad case.

Do you mean the sentencing report?

kelly2000 · 03/10/2011 10:48

I think I am going to leave now, we are all getting a bit armchair sleuthy, and now we are talking about the autopsy I can't help feeling it is being disrespectful to meredith. let's just see what the courts says.

DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2011 10:51

"all evidence that does not exonerate AK and RS must have been gathered by incompetant or corrupt people "

I think it's more that the evidence used to convict them is just not good evidence. I wonder if there must be some corruption in this case? Clearly many rules/protocols were not followed by the police at the begining.

DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2011 10:53

Kelly, don't get hung up on the one person who made a racist comment about Guede's background. None of us agree with her, we are more concerned with the facts of the case which do not support the guilt of AK and RS. Guede on the other hand was clearly there and clearly involved. Nothing to do with his heritage.

DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2011 10:55

the food she ate after nine was one mushroom?

redandgreen · 03/10/2011 10:55

Show me where it contradicts this:

The girls say they had pizza at about 6 and apple crumble at about 8. This exact mix was to be entirely in her stomach, nothing in the duodenum, at the original autopsy, and a mushroom in her oesophagus.

An 11.30pm time of death is just impossible. Honestly. I'm not even arguing that RS and AK couldn't have been there earlier. Just that 11.30pm is absurd.

ForYourDreamsAreChina · 03/10/2011 10:57

I'd like to know how come the person making the racist comments about an entire nation gets their post to stay, but mine calling them out on it gets deleted. Guess that's MN morality for you.

Which is why I've left the thread. DF- I was on the original thread 2 yrs ago with you, and although I didn't agree with you I enjoyed the intellectual debate. I've kept more out of it this time around, and am not sure what I think any more tbh, as regards evidence etc, I guess we'll all find out later today.

Cheers folks x

redandgreen · 03/10/2011 11:01

I agree kelly. Not proud of myself. It just annoys me that people are so dead set against Knox they will ignore all forensic, technological and circumstantial evidence to reinforce the feelings they have 'in their waters' or whatever.

DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2011 11:02

Did you report their post FYDAC?

If they find them guilty this afternoon I still think they are innocent and I will be even more gobsmacked. If they are not aquitted then I do hope they are eventually at the 3rd appeal/trial thing.

Portofino · 03/10/2011 11:11

I have never said anyone is incompetent - just that the key forensic evidence - the knife and the bra clasp - the ONLY things that put AK/RS there - has been called into question - not by me, by the court. And I have not carried out my own criminal profile. Most sexual killers are lone men. Female sexual killers and "team" killers are extremely rare. I am sure I can find some statistics if you want. The scenario as put forward by the prosecution does NOT make sense - and there seems to be no overwhelming evidence to back it up. That has been my argument all along.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 03/10/2011 11:16

I remember the thread a couple of years ago and was impressed that dueling was very well informed Smile.

redandgreen · 03/10/2011 11:19

Yes, I was lurking too and it is impressive that she picked out the truth from the much murkier mud-slinging that was going on from both sides at the time.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 03/10/2011 11:23

I haven't read the whole thread, although I may go back and read over it over the course of the day.

The biggest issue I have with the trial and conviction of Amamnda Knox is that she was tried based on some version of her personality/character (which may or may not be true) rather than on more solid evidence. It seems also that being a woman was used against her which is particularly worrying and unjust. As others have suggested it seems that Meredith Kercher was portrayed as being pure and innocent and therefore Amanda Knox had to be a polar opposite. We all know that people's characters are simply not as polarised as this.

I think the suggestion by some that its an American/Italian thing and the 'Americans' are trying to get AK released for financial gain or simply because they don't trust a foreign justice system is wrong. Her biggest supporters are her family and friends who are supporting her because they love her and believe that she is innocent and doesn't deserve this.

Personally I think Amanda Knox is innocent but today will be hoping and praying that truth and justice will out for all involved but most importantly the Kercher family.

spenditwisely · 03/10/2011 13:34

wellies, yes, this is esentially a witch hunt.

Mignini accused her of being part of a Satanic sect, similarly to the 'Monsters of Florence' case that he completely bungled by accusing them of a similar thing. The Monster of Florence murder is still unsolved despite people having a good idea of who the murdere is.

The same Mignini forced Knox through 50 hours of interrogation to get her to confess that her boss, Lumumba, had murdered Meredith.

After Mignini was jailed for previous misconduct on the MoF case, his successor, Comodi, thrust photographs of her dead friend's maimed body in front of her at the trial. Knox turned away and because of that she told the press later that she was cold and calculating.

If she drowns, she's innocent, if she survives she's a witch. It's a done deal and despite the extra-safe-ultra-secure-postwar Italian Justice System that fastweb talks about, if the people on the ground are prepared to contaminate what's put before the court, that same justice system could cause irreparable damage.

Poor girl.

RedRubyBlue · 03/10/2011 14:31

I think the trial of all three was based on evidence given and examined by police, lawyers, scientists, judges and a jury. Not by what some hacks wrote in some newspapers.

If any juror convicted someone of what they had read about them then the world would be in a very sorry state.

spenditwisely · 03/10/2011 14:38

Yes but which scientists, whose lawyers and a prosecuting officer that forces a confession out of a 20 year old girl. And yes, the Italian justice system is in a very sorry state.

RedRubyBlue · 03/10/2011 14:49

'Forced' a confession? AK gave all her information freely.

What on earth would the Italian police have to gain by forcing a 'confession' out of a twenty year old woman who was at the police station as a witness not a suspect (which is why she had no legal representation).

AK implicated Patrick Lumamba, she claimed she was not there. Then she changed her story to being in the cottage and covering her ears whilst PL murdered MK. Then she was at her boyfriend's all night. Then said her boyfriend could have done it whilst she was asleep and pressed the knife against her hand leaving 'evidence'. RS said AK could have done it whilst he was asleep.

They had never met RG. The flatmates had seen AK with RG. It seems to be lie after lie after lie................and that is when the police started paying a lot of attention to AK and RS. They were effectively hoisted by their own petard.

If they are innocent then WHAT WERE THEY ALL DOING THAT NIGHT?

Portofino · 03/10/2011 15:03

Smoking pot, shagging and sleeping probably.

RedRubyBlue · 03/10/2011 15:07

Ahh yes. People regularly get jailed for 25 plus years for those activities. Most of the student world would be behind bars if that were true.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 03/10/2011 15:17

RedRuby it wasn't hacks though was it. The posecution acted like very irresponisble journalists by putting forward this vision of Amamnda Knox's character and then basing a large part of their case on it. The media doesn't help but its what actually happened/is happening in the courtroom is this case which is more concerning.

"AK implicated Patrick Lumamba, she claimed she was not there. Then she changed her story to being in the cottage and covering her ears whilst PL murdered MK. Then she was at her boyfriend's all night."

Actually - for many hours/days she maintained that she was at RS all night. She then implicated PL after the police read her text messages and interrogated her some more. Then she withdrew that confession which was not admissable in the trial and she maintained that she was at RS's.

cloudsandwind · 03/10/2011 16:20

Could you provide your source that Knox was interrogated for many hours/days before she accused Patrik Lumumba.

DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2011 16:29

here

here - sorry daily mail

I can link to all sorts of newspaper sources too.

kelly2000 · 03/10/2011 17:24

Dueling,
it does not say she was interrogated for twelve hours each day for days. It says Knox supportors claim this, but there have never been any records to show this is true. She was initially only questioned as a witness (hence no lawyer), and none of the other witnesses have claimed similar treatment, RS included. Patrick Lamumbo who was only questioned as a suspect has never claimed police abuse either. AK also claimed she was physically assaulted by the police.
Also there was never any immediate evidence that one of the attackers was black (DNA would show the ethnic origin), it is only Knox supportors, like Moore, outside the court who have claimed hair was found.
