New thread to continue from God those NoW journos were utter scum weren't they?

bornsicky did you catch it - was the implication that the evidence has already been destroyed or that it has been salvaged just in time because this has all blown up again?

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 13:19

salvaged just in time I think.

But that does explain why the evidence was lying around in bin bags...

teejwood · 19/07/2011 13:26

is it possible some of the impetus for this has come from someone within the met who knew that evidence was about to be destroyed?

noddyholder · 19/07/2011 13:34

Out of 45 staff in the DPA 10 worked at the NOTW Shock

Terribletriplets · 19/07/2011 13:40

How do the confidentiality contracts work? Are they going to as JM whether he will waive the 'confidentiality clause? If not, won't that look like he is hiding something?

What about Gordon Taylor and Max C? They have both taken huge pay offs and signed confidentiality contracts. What would happen if we got hold of MC and tickled him until he had to spill? What are they not able to say? That they know that their phones were hacked?

"Out of 45 staff in the DPA 10 worked at the NOTW"

Not very surprising, if the DPA try to employ people with press experience - including work experience - given NI is such a large proportion of that sector.
(I think that figure was for News International, rather than NOTW specifically.)

I'm watching Fedorcio. The committee are lame. Vaz too imperious and which muppet asked why the Met need a PR dept ffs? 'm finding it embarassing tbh.

franke · 19/07/2011 13:59

I fear the Murdochs have little to fear.

ThisIsANiceCage · 19/07/2011 14:03

Ooh, Yates says due diligence was Fedorcio's job. Fedorcio said he asked Yates to do it.

OP posts:
claig · 19/07/2011 14:04

agree, Fozzie bear could have done a better job than some of those Labour questioners. But Nicola Blackwood and the other female Tory MP were very good.

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 14:05

Inspector clouseau would be impressed.

lionheart · 19/07/2011 14:07

a postbox!

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 14:08

it's a different select committee for the murdochs and brooks.

agreed about blackwood though. she is clear, concise and asks intelligent questions.

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 14:10

yates has just admitted nepotism and not following due diligence and procurement guidelines.

absolutely a gross misconduct under any public service contract. you have to follow procurement procedures everytime, even if you do want to give the job it someone you know, whether that's through tenders or through HR employment process.

Lots of passing the buck, "I knew the next person along had expertise/integrity and trusted that".

franke · 19/07/2011 14:14

We need the bods from the Apprentice who pull apart CVs and business plans. They'd have Murdoch spilling the beans.

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 14:15

Talking of good lawyers maybe Dom Grieve should be asking a few questions Wink. Agree re Nicola Blackwood. She is very familier i feel as though i have met her somewhere. Confused

Terribletriplets · 19/07/2011 14:15

I don't think that nepotism is relevant. I think that it happens all of the time, esp in the H of C. I don't think it is a good thing, but it happens everywhere. I think that is a blind alley.

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 14:15

blackwood has never had a job by the looks of it. she's volunteered overseas alot and does work with international development and aid in africa. she has two degrees in music.

not sure where she's getting these skills from, but credit to her.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 14:18

oh dear heavens no - parliament seems to be filled with either a) career politicians or b) lawyers. i think there is a huge argument for there NOT to be more of either so they may actually make better decisions that reflect RL!!

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 14:20

I am useless when it comes to people pulling the wool over my eyes, however i believed Stephenson, yates however i feel has lots to hide.

reelingintheyears · 19/07/2011 14:21

A bit random maybe but didn't the phone hacking start years ago in the early 90's with the 'squidgygate' tapes?

When Princess Diana was taped talking to James Gilbey.

'The war of the Waleses'

Kenneth Clarke was the home secretary and said...iirc.. that there were enough measures in place to prevent such intrusions.

(I may well be wrong)

teejwood · 19/07/2011 14:21

agree that blackwood has been impressive. very prepared. very calm. very factual.

at least she doesn't have a degree in PPE, either...
