I've been listening to all the witnesses for several hours and John Yates is coming across as totally honest. As he has admitted, he wished he had made more of the hacking investigation in hindsight, but he didnt know what he knows now and he made a decision at the time that turns out to be wrong.
Who hasn't made decisions they wished they had made differently in hindsight? I can certainly think of some really seriously bad decisions I have made that I would not want to have to defend in hindsight.
I have followed this 'hacking' story for several years and it has always eluded me why it was so important to everyone in the Westminster village. It is only in the last few weeks that I have come to understand the true scale of it. I really think the Met had no idea, much like the rest of us.
