New thread to continue from God those NoW journos were utter scum weren't they?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 12:11

i feel for paul mcmullan, actually, he looks like a tortured soul to me. and listening to what poor Sean Hoare said, McMullan may just be another casualty. did anyone hear that interview he did about denholm elliot's daughter? he sounded really fucked-up about that, i thought.

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 12:11

Kieth Vaz, whiter than white.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:12

bkgirl - yy - totally see the point about AC having (do we need to say "possibly" to stay on the right side of the lawyers?!) lied about hacking at the Sheridan trial. But that is one case where Sheridan was proven to be lying in court, and if i have to be totally honest if hacking helped to prove that then in the scale of things he falls down the priority list (for me personally) when compared with Millie's family etc. So I'd rather the focus today wasn't on that case - with the huge proviso that AC DOES have questions to answer there on another day.

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 12:15

why is it that i have a historical mistrust of Vaz? i am sure that Private Eye used to be all over him like a rash... what was he up to again?

Ponders · 19/07/2011 12:18

agree about how McMullan sounded in the Denholm Elliott's daughter interview but it wasn't recorded recently, I don't think, Aitch?

boswelloxsmith · 19/07/2011 12:19

keith vaz

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 12:19

oh no aitch mcmullen has been defending hacking all the way through. He's an odious man with no morals and not even a hint of apology for what he does/has done.

Sean Hoare was completely different.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:22

aitch re: PMcM - i think part of the problem was that these journalists saw it all as "fair game" and then had to face up to some of the collateral damage they had caused.

also interesting point he made about the fact he refused to go on a long-term undercover job 200 miles away just after his baby had been born, ended up leaving NI and then RB started something of a campaign against him, contacted his new employers (think at the Express) to tell them how rubbish he was etc. kind of had a bit of sympathy for him there...

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 12:23

stephenson knew that brooks was going to be arrested 1-2 days before she was! so, on the day of her resignation then

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:28

Re: Keith Vaz - alleged expenses, alleged kickbacks from businessmen, allegedly fixed it for the hinduja's to get UK passports.

as we've said before - which of them (on all sides) do we actually believe to have clean hands?

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:33

stephenson just gave himself a promotion to pm there Wink

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 12:37

Mps asking questions about hospitality and freebies. Grin

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2011 12:38

ah yes, teej. that's right. he's enjoying himself thoroughly, i think. a little too much.

yyy the denholm elliot thing was recorded yonks ago, i think this tv immolation of McM's has been in penance. any bets he's a catholic.

and certainly think that defending hacking (however mis-guidedly) is a more honourable tactic than denying all knowledge.

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 12:42

Vaz is so full of his own silly self importance [big grin]

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 12:48

i don't buy that at all aitch. will go hunt for transcipts of his recent interviews and the private eye text. he's not doing any of this out of a sense of honour. he did it for money and he's been doing all these interviews for money whilst evading arrest by the police.

stephenson is actually presenting rather well. very slick, but doesn't seem to be dodging questions or giving evasive answers.

chipstick10 · 19/07/2011 12:53

Agree BornSicky he is presenting very well.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:53

bornsicky well running a pub isn't as profitable as it used to be Wink

and i agree stephenson is presenting well. vaz is looking a bit daft trying to present it as an actual conspiracy that AC and NW both got PR positions Hmm

Terribletriplets · 19/07/2011 12:54

(not very interesting but I just read in Monday Telegraph that John Whittingdale is the only MP among 386 'friends' listed on E Murdoch's fb. Also fb friends with RB and Les Hinton)

teejwood · 19/07/2011 12:59

triplets yy - this was picked up on the andy marr programme (and in various other places) and he said that they were on his Fb but he woudn't consider them as actual rl friends. i'm guessing you accepted an invitation to fb NI just as you accepted an invitation to one of their parties! if we go by actions then he seems to stack up with some integrity and independence so i would think he just Fb friends a lot of people who aren't "friends" - like many people do!

Ponders · 19/07/2011 12:59

ooooh, teej - I think it's very interesting

(that any of them have time or inclination to bother with FB Grin)

teejwood · 19/07/2011 13:01

vaz's "accessory" quip was just a bit too facile for this - hit a bum note for me. i want calm, intelligent questions that get real answers, please!

teejwood · 19/07/2011 13:04

but ponders have you never had one of those moments on fb where it says "oh look you could friend all these other people" and it's v easy over a glass of wine (or two) to think "that looks like a good idea" then the next time you go on, you think wtf did i friend them for when i can't really stand them?! (or is that just me Blush?)
seriously, though - his line has been they were lied to and that they should be held to account, that trumps fb for me - until we get any evidence to the contrary!

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 13:09

stephenson seems to be answering quite fairly on almost everything except Yates, who he seems to be overly-supportive of. Want to say "covering for", but it's not as strong as that IYSWIM.

oh and yes, Vaz needs to stop grandstanding. he's beginning to look like a right plum.

teejwood · 19/07/2011 13:14

woah - what was that about evidence being binned after 6 years???

BornSicky · 19/07/2011 13:15

potentially very important me thinks teej.
