When RB appears tomorrow I am assuming there will be lots of no comment or is she actually free to speak?

Kelvin MacKenzie: his wit and wisdom

Share reddit this John Plunkett guardian.co.uk, Friday 13 June 2008 10.50 BST Article history
Kelvin MacKenzie: 'I've got a large bucket of shit lying on my desk and tomorrow morning I'm going to pour it all over your head.' Photograph: BBC
To then prime minister John Major during the exchange rate mechanism crisis in 1992: "Well John, let me put it this way. I've got a large bucket of shit lying on my desk and tomorrow morning I'm going to pour it all over your head."

I think that JM rang him to check that the Sun was not going to give the multiple Tory a negative impression in the next day paper.

(KM was legendary editor of the Sun in the Tory years)

No comment. Grin

I don't think there will be any political resignations until after Summer Recess. They all think we are such dim-wits that come September we will all be fixated on the new sunday newspaper, the sun on sunday, to be bothered about silly issues like phone hacking, and corruption.

The Murdock manipulation of British politics is very old. Has anyone read, 'Stick it up your Punter'?

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 15:43

Cressida Dick will take over John Yates role.

Lawd help us all.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 15:51

Go Yvette Cooper !

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 15:52

She's right on her soapbox.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 15:54

Oooh, Theresa having a go back ! I love the Parliament channel !

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 15:59

Ah, it's ruined now.

Always becomes a slanging match, and 'Labour should have looked into......'

Let's face it, the only reason the Tories are looking into it is because of the public outrage.

I have no allegiance to either party, btw.

TheRealMBJ · 18/07/2011 16:06

What has RB been charged with?

Surely if she hasn't been charged with anything, then she is free to speak AND has to tell the truth.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 16:12

She hasn't been charged with anything. They put no allegations to her, and showed no documents relating to any offence.

But she spent over 9 hours there.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 16:13

It's something to do with impeding a police investigation ? I think. Because of criminal proceedings etc....

slug · 18/07/2011 16:16

I see Melanie Phillips has specatularly missed the point yet again

BornSicky · 18/07/2011 16:32

i'd forgotten about summer recess until today. think others are right that cameron and co are hoping it will all fizzle out by september, so he won't resign, unless the pressure continues to build.

TheRealMBJ · 18/07/2011 16:32

Oh fucking hell. She's an idiot.

NormanTebbit · 18/07/2011 16:39

I think there are still restrictions about what can be said/reported when someone is under arrest. These restrictions become more onerous once someone is charged. Not that the NOTW took much notice of that - oh the delicious irony.

Are they expecting criminal proceedings? Because surely any trial is prejudiced by now. Unless they put them all on remand for two years till everyone's forgotten about it and then have a trial.

Oh but we are talking about rich people the rules are different aren't they.

BornSicky · 18/07/2011 16:50

words fail me about Melanie Philips. I can'te ven be arsed to provide a coutner argument as she and her supporters wouldn't be interested.

Can we put her and Liz Jones in a rocket and blast them into space - that way they'll be as physically removed from reality as they are philosophically?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2011 17:32

does anyone know the timings for tomorrows select committee interviews?

BornSicky · 18/07/2011 17:43

2.30 murdochs
3.30 brooks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2011 17:49

thanks bornsicky :) would be bloody school run time wouldnt it!

ThisIsANiceCage · 18/07/2011 17:49

More reference material.

Deliberately misleading a select committee is contempt of Parliament. Full details of what that means and the penalties, here.
